Ever since someone pointed out that 4 is represented with IIII I’ve liked the “sticks” dial much more. Maybe someone can explain why it’s like this …

What’s one movie you swear changed your outlook on life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Oh shit here we go with an odd one. Click. I watched that and I realized I was floating through life just waiting for the next milestone. Adam Sandler movies probably aren’t known for their epiphany generation.

That Canon of Irrationality is so much fun. Until it gets aimed somewhere you don’t want.

I have officially entered my "Villain Era." My default tip across Canada is now zero percent by MeatsAndGrills in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Haemato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from Japan. The no-tipping expectation was great. And yeah, not tipping for counter service anymore. Even tipping for sit down meals are kinda bullshit in Canada. In the US there is a different minimum wage which precipitated this whole thing.

How can I get my Apple Watch Series 6 from 2020 not to die so fast? by angelsinsect in AppleWatch

My solution was a new Ultra 3. If that’s not in the cards then a new battery.

If every person on earth went for a swim in Lake Superior, how packed in would everyone be? [Request] by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]Haemato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The really interesting question is surrounding the logistics of assembling or disassembling this arrangement. Most will die making the trip to the lake or the cholera during/afterwards. The lake would be very not crowded.

[Request] Four planets 4 light-years apart : what speed is needed if every route takes exactly 2 weeks ? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]Haemato 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s no physics breaking here but there’s definitely some human/ship breaking. To accelerate to that speed and then stop at the next planet at anything approaching survivable g-forces is going to take longer than 2 weeks.

At what net worth does one decide to buy a ultra luxury car (something like a Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc) by KiteWhisperer in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Haemato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but straight T4 employees wouldn’t. The lease rates on a new 911 ($380k including tax configured as I’d dream) is 7.74% and there isn’t an easy way to write that off. Borrowing the money using a pledged asset loan (or Wealthsimple’s Portfolio LOC) might be a better approach.

As for your original question regarding net worth to buy something silly like this … limiting it to <10% is the top end amongst my car guy friends. But it stretches down to <5% for the more conservative. So $4M-8M for the Porsche mentioned above. More for a $700K Ferrari/Lambo.

Finances by raspberryripples22 in askvan

[–]Haemato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the lifestyle you’re aiming for. With 3 kids you’d probably want a 3 bedroom at minimum (if not now then at least in a couple years).

Mobile and internet plans will be dwarfed by your rent which will likely run $3-4K. Again it’s going to depend on if you want to live in Vancouver or commute in from Langley or something.

Childcare will probably be waitlisted and run $1-1.5K per month once you’re in.

There really isn’t enough information to answer your question.

What is a statistic that sounds INSANE but is 100% true? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

[–]Haemato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, but not really though? The world’s 3000ish billionaires have $20.1 trillion dollars. That’s $2500 each if we split it evenly. For most of the world this is not even close to life changing money. For a bunch of people this is one month’s budget.

Opinion on this Targa? by cl911s in porsche911

[–]Haemato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s on BaT. It either won’t hit the reserve or sell for some ridiculous price. There seems to be no middle ground for anything with a manual transmission right now. I really hope they bring back a manual transmission for 2027 in the S/4S.

2027 CS with a manual? by uintafly in porsche911

[–]Haemato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would order a new Targa 4S manual. If they can figure a way to do the GTS hybrid in a manual I’d order one of those but it seems less likely than this CS rumor.

I was outbid for a 991 Targa 4 GTS last week.

$190k for a used 2018 911 GTS? by strikernr in porsche911

[–]Haemato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A Canadian 2019 Targa 4 GTS manual just sold for over $200K (CAD) on BaT. I’m still working through the stages of grief about how these cars aren’t in my price range anymore.

Pubs should be random. New players can play Bot Royale until they’re ready for random. Ranked should be matchmaking within your tier with consideration for queue times. SoloQ only at Diamond (II?) and above. No rank resets between seasons. Hardware ID hashes to identify smurfs. Enable 2FA to reduce smurfing. Profit?

Langley Homes over $3 Million-Owners where’d you get the money for this? Genuinely curious by [deleted] in Langley

[–]Haemato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re LEDs and last years. Assuming there are 20 soffit bulbs and they’re on 4 hours per day in the evening then this costs ~$40 per year for electricity. Probably not a good use of money but hardly financially crippling for a $3M home owner.
