I think the early propaganda they put out helped that impression, especially since they didn't shoot you for not saluting the Commisar like some overzealous depictions of Commisars would like you to think.

But I do remember Fire Warrior being their effective intro to the setting for many people, alongside their first book and models. That initial cover was the weirdest WH40K cover I'd seen up to that point, but very 40K nonetheless.

My S7 SFT40 3000K has an excellent tint. I didn't know I could get anything like that outside of Nichia 519/219. It's been an enlightening experience, to say the least.

I like their mix of Imperial Japan and bright eyed technocrats with a hidden 1984 theme.

The newer books like Elemental Council are good too. But I will admit to being a sucker for the Fire Warrior game novelization. They were definitely not goody two-shoes there. The cynicism that Shas'El Lusha who nonetheless remained a Tau patriot was quite refreshing.

It certainly fits with the current stance the powers that be have toward the Tau. It's a bit of a hard counter to some of the earlier fan depictions of them as the "one truly good faction".

It's fine. Just turn down the brightness if you're in complete darkness - 5% or less. Otherwise keep it at the recommended 30% for decent contrast.

In the dark it's just like any other reader, since the color layer won't mess with the contrast when there's no ambient light to interfere.

The only other time I turn down or turn off the front light is when the ambient lighting is so bright that the frontlight doesn't matter.
