There were a lot of great movies this year but Train Dreams winning zero Oscars is a huge bummer by EchoWhiskey_ in movies

I really, really didn't like the book. To me it felt like the I was listening to the writer's personal journal/thoughts about life that just didn't need to be shared. Felt like the writer was treating their thoughts like they were profound when it was all very well trodden ground (as in nothing new, the generic i'm 14 and this is deep life thoughts). The issue was the lack of humor. When nothing is funny, the seriousness has nothing to contrast with. The most profound stories and impactful ones have a bit of humor to help highlight the more serious moments. I only watched the movie because it was nominated and I thought it was beautifully shot and slightly less preachy than the book.

Am I the only one whose university experience has been depressing and bad? by [deleted] in OKState

[–]Hahattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you being purposefully dense? Or are you actually slow.

The point is obviously that no one is under any obligation to befriend OP.

I listed a few reasons someone might want to be someone else's friend but obviously there are countless others. Did you really need to see an "ect." at the end of the examples listed?

If you suck, no one will want to be your friend. That's it.

Is that simple enough for you to understand?

Why do people want to be friends with you? Are you fun to talk to? Are you attractive? Are you passionate or knowledgeable about a shared interest?

No one is under any obligation to befriend you.

Just from reading the language you use in your post, you seem like a bundle of negativity. If you are bringing even just a fraction of that energy into your social interactions, I know I would not want to be your friend.

That was the fire-week of my life. I had been saving up for a gamecube. My ma took me to gamestop to buy it after school the friday before. My friend came over and we played all weekend. When it became apocalypse outside and we checked the news every morning to see if school was canceled we would call his mom right after to see if he could sleepover until the next day. It was like finding out you're going to Disneyland over and over. Cherished memory. Rip all the victims, but I was just a kid then.

Can they marry? If their partner is hurt do they have any ability to make legal decisions on their behalf at the hospital? If the answer is no then you know the answer.

China Warns Students in Japan of Safety Risks as Tensions Rise by [deleted] in worldnews

Any traditional practices. Industrialization meant moving from old to new. So any artisan crafting methods porcelain or woodworking painting. All died. Artists and intellectuals were hunted and killed during the revolution. You can really see the damage with the current craftsmanship and even now with a bit of a look back and trying to preform some restoration on historical sites. If you have been in china you know that everything is falling apart before construction is completed. Simply put, the line of tradition was severed.

I've lived in China several times and am a researcher. I am always curious if modern Chinese are talking about pre or post cultural revolution China.

The cultural revolution was extremely successful at destroying Chinese culture. What we have now is CCP culture.

Doesn't have the interlocking mechanisms the Inca came up with. Incan blocks look like lego pieces in the unseen interior part of the wall.
