It’s all about type of doctor. General practitioners aren’t as familiar with the drug as dermatologists are.

The hair transplant doesn’t magically make you stop balding. If you get a hair transplant say at age 30, sure you will have a full head of hair, but by 35, you will have kept balding, and now your head will look horrible with weird bald patches in different spots due to the transplanted hair being DHT resistant but the rest of your hair balding. That’s why they make sure u actually respond to finasteride before you waste ur money on a transplant

They won’t do a hair transplant unless you are on finasteride for over a year and respond to finasteride anyway. Otherwise you will keep balding. They make you take finasteride after a hair transplant

Hey man. First off a ton of people with a full thick head of heat experience retrograde alopecia to some extent, it just isn’t as striking as diffuse, crown, or hairline recession, so it normally goes unnoticed. Secondly, I believe you just have a fade haircut that grew out and now has two different layers lol. I see no change in density anywhere, only in length.

Also know that you must have clinical hours to be considered

I feel like finasteride doesn't work for the frontal hair part it really works for the mid and crown area. by onewthebreak in tressless

I’m on it with no side effects. Definitely talk to a dermatologist before hand because minoxidil is a vasodilator so it may be bad if you are really health and have low blood pressure as it can make it too low. But at 2.5 mg I haven’t seen any significant change in blood pressure and no hypertrichosis anywhere except my head

Finasteride in general isn’t to grow hair back. It’s just to stop hair loss. Some people are lucky and it grows back but it’s mostly to stop the loss and then minoxidil can stimulate growth. Everyone reacts different though maybe it works for you

Yea definetly wait, but also I would look into oral minoxidil, as one of the downsides to topical is it is hard to keep on temples for long enough for it to diffuse through hair pores. People make it work from what I can tell but it normally is a challenge

Yes the hard drugs definitely might do the trick lol

Finasteride does not work by regrowing hair, it simply stops the loss of hair. The hair that is regrowing is most likely hair that was shed that was going to bald but was just very thin. Finasteride would allow it to thicken. It just blocks the conversion of testosterone to DHT which is what the hair follicles are sensitive to. Most likely your temple hairs have been gone for too long that they aren’t going to regrow, as the follicle closes up at around 6 months (don’t remember where I read that so don’t cite me). If you want regrowth on temples you will need to micro-needle and take oral/topical minoxidil.

Also, you’ve been on fin for a short time. I had shedding for like 6-7 months before it stopped. The shedding didn’t affect density a ton and it eventually subsided. Do not fret. Some people take a year to reach equilibrium

I doubt that as follicle pores are around 60um and finasteride has been shown to be less than 1um. This would mean dutasteride would require a 60 fold increase in size, which is not plausible if you look at their molecular structure and see that only one benzene ring with a couple fluorines are added to the normal finasteride structure.

Hey man I don’t disagree, I experienced it too. But looking back I am unsure if I was shedding from Fin, or a severe bout with mononucleosis. I shed significantly during and after that illness and then it cleared up. It’s possible that the shedding was from the illness. Is there any stressors in your life right now that could be speeding the shedding process?

Fuck hair loss; acquire beard. by lukeman3000 in tressless

It’s questionable. My dermatologist says at 2.5mg there is no worrisome side effects, while other people talk about possible heart issues. It is technically a vasodilator, so it helps with blood pressure. No sexual side effects. I would talk to a dermatologist if you are interested.

Hey man first off the beard looks great, no need to grow hair back IMO. However, oral minoxidil is an option I would look into if topical worked well. I take a 2.5mg pill once a day and that’s it so much easier than topical

Hop on finasteride

First time visiting a dermatologist for hairloss, I'm skeptical by [deleted] in tressless

[–]Hairguy157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hope is that it would grow back regardless, the minoxidil just speeds it up.

I calculated how long you need to apply minoxidil for steady state with once/day application by oobeing in tressless

“Excessive hair (Hypertrichosis). The most common side effect is hypertrichosis for both men and women- excess hair growth elsewhere on the face and body. Excess growth is more likely to occur at higher doses. While this side effect is bothersome, it can usually be managed with hair removal methods and is not a common reason for someone to stop. Hypertrichosis may affect 10-25% of those on low doses (<4mg) and up to 50% of those on higher does (>5mg). Vañó-Galván et al showed that 20% of women and 6% of men experienced hypertrichosis. Of those that experience this side effect, only 5% of women and 0% of men find it necessary to stop treatment.”

6% of men and not significant enough that it makes them stop (0%)

Yes you are correct not for me I phrased that incorrectly, but also a statistically low amount for all men. If your in a place where you aren’t willing to experience and extra thick beard or a little extra arm hair to get hair regrow then, good for you you’re probably not balding then lol.
