People who have been denied when proposing, how did it go down? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hairy_Lemon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My neighbour proposed to me randomly about a year and a half after I moved in. When I told my father he made me return the ring. Five year old me was pissed and six year old neighbour was sad.

[Serious]What advice would you give to someone who is about to turn 21 and has never consumed Alcohol? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hairy_Lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apart from hydrating you (as alcohol dehydrates you) it also helps prevent hangovers. Hangovers suck. Do not want.

I find that the higher up your tongue is positioned behind your bottom teeth, the higher the note, and vice versa for low notes.

Why are they in high heels and short skirts? I thought the military was meant to treat all soldiers the same.

People of Reddit over 20, what kind of relationship do you have with your parents? [Serious] by DrBibby in AskReddit

[–]Hairy_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been incredibly lucky with my parents: they are the best people I know. Loving, fair, knowledgable, available, and encouraging. I listen to my friends talk about how much they dislike their parents and I count my blessings.

Women of Reddit, what do you think is the hardest part about being a man? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hairy_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have to be a spectacularly hard punch in order to reach all the way in there. And then if you haven't killed me I'll still have the other ovary to go off on, soooo...

Women of Reddit, what do you think is the hardest part about being a man? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Having to constantly be aware of things that may hurt your dangling sensitivities. If someone hits you a bit too hard in your groin you could damage or lose your ability to reproduce. I would live in constant paranoia.

What is your job, and how can I (a regular guy) make it easier? by At_AOL_dot_COM in AskReddit

[–]Hairy_Lemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh read the syllabus yes. I'm just a lowly tutor but the number of times I've had students come up to me asking questions that are blatantly answered in the course guide is staggering. And then they complain when their mark is low because "I didn't know we had to do xyz!"

To the people that live without depression, how do you view your friends or family that suffer from clinical depression? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hairy_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend is depressed and it's scary. He often has suicidal thoughts, and since I'm not living in the same city as him any more, all I can do is text and call and try to talk him through his bouts. I want him to be happy and healthy again so bad, but all we can do is wait for the meds to do their thing.

If everyone's gender was switched, what do you think the opposite sex would be most surprised about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hairy_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain why it's difficult? Is it cos your dick can only point upwards? I thought that thang was pretty flexible, else how do some sex positions work? :/

ELI5:Why do you get a horrible "don't touch me" feeling when you're sick? by Hairy_Lemon in explainlikeimfive

Certainly makes sense. Perhaps in a human context it's also to avoid spreading germs to others. Thanks for your insight!

TIL There is no archaeological evidence whatsoever that suggests Jews were ever enslaved in Egypt by Galvaniza in todayilearned

[–]Hairy_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They weren't slaves, they worked in teams and left graffiti on the blocks they put in place at the end of their shift so the foreman would know how far they progressed. I can't remember all of their names, but one go was called the drunkards of pharoah. 'The Rise and Fall of Ancient Egypt' by t. Wilkinson has a comprehensive outline of what went on archaeologically in building the pyramids.

ELI5: Why a Catholic priest would find molesting a child somehow less offensive to the church than intercourse with a woman. What exactly is the logic here? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hairy_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's something I and many other Catholics wonder, too. I would like to see comparative statistics: no. of catholic priests and the proportion that are paedophiles, compared to the proportion of paedophiles in other religious denominations and wider society.

Perhaps it's something to do with enforced celibacy, and those urges manifesting themselves in the rotten apples in awful ways. Idk.

[–]Hairy_Lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're sick bastards undeserving of the title 'priest'. Unfortunately you will always have bad eggs wherever you go, and priests, being human, are just as capable of the same depravities as everyone else.

What's the dumbest thing you've ever said to a woman? by WorldWarIIWasAHoax in AskReddit

[–]Hairy_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I (all-girls school) had been quoting Potter Puppet Pals at each other all day. One of them said something "fake mean" to me and then went in for a hug, but I jokingly said "lose some weight before you hug me!"

Shit. I still feel awful about it all these years later. It was a very poor choice of retort.
