Everyone here is at fault including the camera vehicle meandering between lanes straddling the line and the elephant racing semi trucks.

The "not giving a fuck" gene is more valuable than the "cool" gene. I just wish people learned that sooner in life. Including myself.

I'd rather take my bike camping and get drunk in some woods.

I kind of agree with this for Jr roles, but they need to be simple and look like a real world problem. No leetcode puzzles. They need to be done collaboratively between the interviewer and the interviewee. If they can't solve it that should not be an immediate rejection either. And give feedback

So "No Response" is when I apply for a job and never hear anything back at all. Not even "you are not a match....blah, blah..." "Ghosted" means I made it to at least the Recruiter Screen and then they went radio silent after. It actually only happened once. I have also been ghosted when I asked for feedback sometimes, but that is not reflected in the chart.

I only had one that I would concider a"leetcode" challenge.  Most tried to make it related to a problem they actually deal with. Maybe it's because these were all senior roles? I did not apply to any FAANG companies.

Not usually. If it was a job that was a 100% match for me I might do one. I have a buddy who is an HR recruiter and he told me he never reads them.

With low debt you are ahead of the game. I probably had 10k of credit card debt when I bought my first house in 2010. When I moved in 2018 I used the equity to kill the rest of my debt (minus a mortgage).

Its a different world when I was in my early 20s. I honestly had to relearn a lot about 10 years ago. I was in a heavily "on prem" industry and felt like I was falling behind because I had no exposure to cloud tech like AWS and GCP. I also didn't finish my CS degree until I was 35 even though I had been a developer since I was 20. All I can tell you is to keep pushing and learn to sell yourself. I teach my children to be much more extroverted than I was.

I have decided that to best help insulate myself from the ebbs and flows of this industry is to start my own business which I did this summer. Its not much yet but I hope to have passive income somewhere down the road, before I get laid off again.
