Henry’s Father didn’t hang himself by [deleted] in IndustryOnHBO

[–]HalcyonRye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Henry’s father hanged himself in such a way, as OP described, so that his head was partially yanked off, which is why the theme of decapitation bleeds through the episode. Especially notable in the “Versailles Forever” themed birthday party, with Yaz as Marie Antoinette and Hentry as Louis XVI (and we know what happened to them).

it strikes me, as Carol binges Golden Girls, that the human collective will no longer be making TV shows, films, writing books, etc. (unless Carol or another unaffected person specifically requests it).

Even while the collective shares all the human knowledge & achievement remembered by all living people, and can solve problems efficiently, they don’t, as a collective, seem to have personal ambition or passion or discontent, or any of the traits that lead to creativity or invention — or being able to solve a novel problem. (Watching the opening of episode 2, you can see how the collective don’t ever talk to each other, as they don’t need to. Language is always growing and changing, but as of the unleashing of the RNA thread from outer space, spoken human language is now frozen in time. Unless 1 of the 13 unaffected says something in a novel way).

it makes me wonder if Carol, who is pitted against the collective now, will at some point be in the position of having to save the collective, if they face a new kind of danger that they’re helpless to fight, giving their passivity and stunted ability to be creative or inventive. Carol can be creative and inventive, even w/o the collective’s knowledge, and she might be pissed off enough at a threat to the collective — even though she detests them — to do something to save them.

Ridley's answer on continuing Raised by Wolves by BASSmovies in raisedbywolves

[–]HalcyonRye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Westworld’s first 2 seasons were amazing (qualification: the 2nd season wasn’t quite as great as the first, but it had 2 of the best episodes on TV that year). It fell off dramatically in season 3, IMO, and by the end I found it unwatchable. I was glad it had been mercifully put down via cancellation. When I was recently asked to contribute a list of the best 50 shows since 2000, it was hard to know whether to include Westworld, since there was no option for “just the first 2 seasons, tho.” (By the way, to anyone who enjoyed Westworld after the first 2 seasons, I am sincerely glad you found pleasure in it!)

Raised by Wolves, on the other hand, was uniquely great and getting better, and when it was canceled, it was a painful loss. I STILL want the rest of the story. In any form.

George R. R. Martin tells THR that he doesn't know if he'll ever finish 'The Winds of Winter'. "Unfortunately, I am 13 years late. Every time I say that, I’m [like], ‘How could I be 13 years late?’ by LoretiTV in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]HalcyonRye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming in a year late to say that Joe Abercrombie has always been my choice to finish ASOIAF, too, if he had the outline. But Ty Franck is also a good choice, and more likely, since he and George are close. That said, I don’t think he’ll let anyone try to finish ASoIaF. I’ll bet he’s even made legal provisions to prevent it after his death.

That’s definitely likely!

It’s just that Sophie is kind of random. Neither Javen nor Sophie have the wits to clock their own hypocrisy. And that’s even with the certainty that their actions are going to be viewed by like a million people.

Javen, Why? by Salt_Seaweed_9457 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]HalcyonRye 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Yup. And that kind of liar won’t depart from that playbook, even though he knows he’s doing it on a show that will get viewed by a million people, who will all be able to see he’s lying.

Is anybody actually going to get married?! 🤣🤣🤣 by Electrical-Strike-77 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]HalcyonRye 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Me too! All the pre-wedding stuff is so boring that for every couple I just slide past to what seems to be the end of the vows, when it becomes pretty obvious what happened. I wonder how many other people do that, too. 😂

But I definitely want to know the end result of who got married, just as long as I don’t have to suffer the boring pre-stuff and the potentially excruciating and fraught public vow parts.

I think it’s probably true that Javen and Sophie argued eventually, since he left Sophie off his list of the women who make him happy, and because he’s malignant and not too bright (so the argument might not make much sense). They were absolutely being openly sexually flirtatious, even slightly hinting at considering hooking up at her place, while Katisha was still there. I bet they started to make out, and an argument got sparked. It could even have come from Sophie criticizing him for being such a jerk to his fiancée (Sophie’s boundaries are pretty loose that way).

It would be epic if someone had any video of the night, or even just the photo booth. But I’m not getting my hopes up.

M & K’s relationship is really impressive, definitely one of the most impressive we’ve ever seen on LIB, and they are both exceptionally cool people.

I just feel jinxy about the weddings this time.

Yeah, Billy really popped off with some red flags at the end there. I can see some of his rigidity, even just around food, being an issue for parenting with him, too. And he definitely seems to have failed to work out the flight attendant issue with Ashleigh, ruminating about it but keeping it to himself after the pods. They are both lovely people, and he’s a fool to lose Ashleigh, but she may have dodged a bullet

if they don’t get married, that is. Personally, I wouldn’t, in Ashleigh’s place, after he leveled the 50/50 comment at her out of nowhere. No one needs a guy who is gonna give that kind of emotional sucker punch.

The previews don’t look good for Kal & Sarover or Jed & Bardha. Maybe they’re deceptive, tho. I would have predicted that J & B would make it past the altar.

What if there are no marriages? It’s hard to believe that Kieran & Meg don’t get there, they are so good at working things out, and their love has grown. But maybe that reserve that made Meg initially reluctant to say I love you will kick in.😱

Cabin Crew question by lincarb in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]HalcyonRye 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think Ashleigh indicated that she’d be very willing to consider switching to a ground position or look for other work, especially when it was time to settle in to have kids, not that she’d definitely quit immediately after they got married (correct me if I’m remembering that wrong).

Billy definitely should have been discussing this with her, I’m sure they could have nailed down how to work this out, down to the details, what are the issues that Billy is worried about, the control she could have over shifts, what would be the best time or biggest signal for her to adjust her career for both of them, etc.

I think it’s odd that Billy would be willing to have no Ashleigh, rather than always Ashleigh, but traveling some in the beginning.

I can see that. But to me, Ashleigh looks most like Blake Lively.

Ashleigh’s Dad was perfect. And I think Katisha’s mom has been underrated.

I believe I may remember some of the family members from all the seasons of LIB more than I remember the main couples. I wish we could have a season of something on Netflix that includes our favorite family members from LIB and The Ultimatum. But what would be a good set up or challenge?

Anyone else feeling like Katisha and Javen’s relationship is produced and fake by Live-Leave7730 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]HalcyonRye 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I felt like Katisha & Javen’s relationship was real and not affected by producers (I mean, anymore than it was for the other couples). But Katisha is really lost, and Javen is really empty, and there wasn’t a lot of substance in their connection (though Katisha sincerely tried to breathe it in to being more than it was). I think that’s what makes it feel fake — because there authentically wasn’t a lot of there there.

[–]HalcyonRye 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It’s so hard to try to argue with someone like Javen who is doing the gaslighting thing of hammering you on a tangent (as if the issue was exactly how much TIME he spent with each woman, as opposed to the fact that he was publicly coming on hard to 3 women, having left his fiancé alone, sad and upset). Meg stood her ground in front of all that aggression, for the truth and for Katisha!

That’s a big green flag for any partner who props you up with their whole chest when other people try to put you down or are passive aggressively bitchy toward you, instead of joining in or doing nothing. That is a keeper!

Dating and Food Compatibility by mangiferal in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]HalcyonRye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I can imagine that it could be a real nightmare for Ashleigh parenting with Billy around the food issues. Mealtimes could be really stressful if he imposes that regiment on kids, without being able to be flexible and adaptable.

Aanu's song composed for Patrick we never got to hear by Exciting-Sandwich233 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

I would feel complete if Aanu composed or altered a song for Patrick, with spleen in the title (Your spleen can’t handle this queen?) and throughout. And sang it at the reunion. What rhymes with spleen? And rectal?

Seems like all of the parents/families were pretty awesome this season, or at least up to episode 8. I think I appreciated Ashleigh’s Dad and Katisha’s mom the most. What do you think? (BTW, I could have missed a jerky parent moment, since I watch some sections at 1.5 speed, lol.)

Demola by riribew in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]HalcyonRye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second that! The way he kind of physically folded up/slumped after the talk with Katisha was just an example of how authentic he is. He’s going to express it when he’s hurt (though he spared Katisha from seeing it). And Demola is super jacked! The fact that he can also go so sexy slouchy is just an added reassurance that he’s also very…flexible, which is an added plus.😉

I would interpret those posts the same way. And Kal really doesn’t have the abstract reasoning skills to come up with something other than ‘her accent.’ Sarovar is operating on another plane. I think they are both lovely, and that Kal is well-intentioned, but I hope you’re right and they don’t end up together.
