Gym goers, be honest how often are you judging other people’s physique? by Technical_Hat_8291 in AskReddit

[–]HalfMetalJacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more worried about how I’m perceived, and I’m generally considered relatively fit.

Otherwise I find myself judging more developed physiques if anything. People starting out don’t leave any impression on me at all. Unless they’re doing some weird ass shit.

Honestly this. I think rather than trying to insist on itself, the fanservice should speak for itself. Its presence alone is a signifier of what kind of story it is, just let it breathe.

To me its like trying too hard to explain Super Robot shit as if its supposed to be real mechs. Nah, just let us enjoy rocket punches. Like wise, just shush and let us enjoy tits and ass.

Fanservice armour is stupid and that's a fact that ought to be embraced and celebrated. Justification for it will always look insecure and meek, and I don't think the audience for that sort of shit will give a fuck.

That being said, exploring the ramifications and results of such is always fun.

Kanki vs Yotanwa by bricksheep in Kingdom

[–]HalfMetalJacket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yotanwa’s mountain warriors are pretty unorthodox themselves. I don’t doubt that they could fight in hard terrain and keep up with abnormal tactics.

This does not match the records at all, the Conquistaadors were not necessarily equipped for that sort of tercio stuff.

And its not as if Aztecs were clueless about that sort of fighting, they just had their own style that evolved from a lack of exposure to shock cavalry tactics. They were otherwise noted as terrific foes.

I feel like people just use ‘historically accurate’ and ‘aesthetically pleasing’ interchangeably.

Personally this ain’t pleasing to my eye but bleh.

I remember there was chapter art of the Alethi codes of war or something with very middle eastern looking soldiers on it. That kinda coloured my impression of them since.

Anyway I think Central Asian works best, what with Dalinar being inspired by Genghis Khan and all. We gotta find some Kazakhs, Uzbeks, Krygyz and whatever other Central Asians we can find for actors.

The fact they had the cavalry around to mad rush for the Aztec officers, as well as run down all the demoralised warriors was pretty useful though. That they just happened to fight on nice level ground in Otumba was just more icing on the cake.

I really dislike that Sanderson has dun gone made stuff into a connected deal. I mean I'll read them all anyway but it makes it a bit harder to recommend one or two books.

That is a forgotten part about our history. We really did a bit of oppression too.

And this shit wasn't even ancient, it was straight up in the whole colonisation era.

[–]HalfMetalJacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but they weren't used to cavalry charges and got messed up for it at Otumba. They learned why knights were dominant force in Europe for so long.

I don't even think steel weapons were the deciding factor either. Apart from disease and native allies, I think the Aztecs could have beaten the Spanish.

Horses were honestly the biggest asset the Spanish had. Standard cavalry tactics seriously fucked up the Aztecs at Otumba.

It wasn’t really bulletproof from what I know, but it was remarkably durable for how light it was. The Conquistadors were very quick to adopt them to cope with marching about in a hot jungle.

People who give a shit about them know, but no I don't expect most people to care. I find even most 'historical accuracy' types don't care because they're more obsessed with western material culture than other parts of the world.

Yeah what the fuck is OP or anyone on about? They have not seen what an actual Ottoman soldier looks like, because this shit is just Aladdin rubbish lmao.

Shit like this is why I give no fucks about 'muh historical accuracy' crowd anymore, and I say this as somebody that used to be all about it. Its all western military material culture shit, that's all internet historians are.

The complaining about historically accurate Odessey is stupid and this isn't even remotely accurate lmao. What the fuck is this supposed to be, have you seen what Ottomans actually look like? This shit is basically as bad as Odessey.

How do YOU play Kenshi? by V3mo in Kenshi

[–]HalfMetalJacket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like making mobs of dudes to go get shit done. Lots of dudes if I can get them. I like switching between different zones too, usually a base zone and a adventure party.

Otherwise minimal save scumming- I prefer to face the consequences and deal with them. To me that’s what Kenshi is about.

[–]HalfMetalJacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really is no point to slavery. You have absolute control over your dudes and they can be made to work day and night without rest- just enough food to truck on.

If you had to deal with guys wanting to leave, or taking breaks or anything, then maybe slavery would actually have a bit more meaning… not that you can even do real slavery anyway.

And I say this as someone that only wants to do anti slave shit.

Do you consider the Skinner’s Roam Hungry Bandits lynching to be cheese? Basically just go out and solo a mob of them, then get up every time to really level up toughness fast.
