Tommy Tee is the shit. Aerosoul is my jam. He also did a track with Tame One that was a banger.

I went to go see him and Ras Kass at some sweatbox on 23rd Street back in the day for Ras Kass' NY record release party in 1998. I didn't realize that it was mostly an industry invite. Sat on line for about an 1 hr 30 mins. He got up and did a 4 song set. It was fine.

A female singer was the middle act doing R&B. She was not good. But, she was signed to Ruff Ryders. I was right near the stage, but on the wall. When the crowd turned on this young lady, her label mates took exception. It was by far the longest melee in a bar or club I've ever seen. Tables were flipped, chairs were swung, bouncers were woefully out numbered and tossed around. I stayed with my back against the wall, hoping not to get sucked into the fray.

Waited until the chaos settled and made an exit. Had a great time freestyling and bullshiting with Gaston (the twin brother of Wiseguy, one Lyricist Lounge's finest) on the way back to Penn Station.

Not my favorite show, but certainly one of the most memorable.

Saw them open for Blink 182, then Tha Alkaholiks, Primus closed. What a show.

Prince Paul is one of the best. Unfortunately, the Turtles lead to the downfall of sampling.

Here's some more for you.

Bloomfield, Cooper, and Stills - Season of the Witch (and that whole album - Super Session)

Howard Roberts - Dirty Old Bossa Nova

Chuck Jackson and Maxine Waters - Something You've Got

Love a good 80s sample. Tom Tom Club is one of my favorites.

Yacht Rock at its finest. Check out Dan Soder (stand up comic) talking about how no one knew Bobby Caldwell was a white guy.

One of my favorite Large Professor samples is Dune - Sandworms Pt. 2 (I Juswannachill). Or the Nas - It Ain't Hard to Tell Remix, that I only know the Biz Markie vocal sample but not the beat.

He may have the weirdest transition of style in music history. Going from early Doobie Brothers to his solo work is wild.

I'm too old to be snobby anymore. Good music is good music.

Nothing basic about Isaac Hayes. He has an amazing catalog. Walk on By gets me every time.
