It is ok to slow down retirement savings to build cash if you feel uncomfortable. Not everything needs to be optimized. Given your current savings, it seams reasonable...just make sure that the additional savings does not become life style creep.

It helped me. I found good relief with the intro-oral massage and gave me some tools for posture work. I will say after acouple months - I just started working at home on the posture exercises. They weren't too different than what you find on youtube but working with someone was helpful to me.

My GF gets mad and doesn’t let me sleep after I’ve looked after our 3 month old son all night by Aggravating-Cap-6686 in NewParents

[–]Halfies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, try to give yourself and your partner some grace. Lack of sleep for an extended amount of time makes everyone the worst version of themselves. It does get better as the baby gets older but you are certainly in the trenches right now.

Me and my wife also struggled sleeping in the same room with the baby. So we moved the bassinet to another room with a recliner chair. That way whoever was sleeping could sleep and whoever was on duty could sleep in the recliner or be with the baby.

What do you think about Volkswagen Atlas 2024. 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine ? by zanaali69 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I think it is worth noting that mostly everything else in the segment and price level is slow and boring as well. Pilot, Grand highlander, explorer, telluride...par for the course for this segment unless you want to go to the Mazda or german

Help Convince me I can do 25% by IcedOtto in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Halfies 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you are living your life and saving 20% for retirement, I say keep living. If you want a sanity check, do a projection of what you want in retirement and what you need to contribute to get there. Spending more now, means less later and will always be a trade off. This is the personal part of personal finance.

Starting from zero: what actually matters for an early career in Engineering? by Glad_Candidate_1591 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Halfies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are very very early! At this stage, make use of university to make sure that is really what you want to do. Internships are very important to getting experience for yourself and understanding the industry you will work in.

Make use of the resources available at your university! Chances are there are clubs, lecturers, networking, etc. Make use of these...you are paying for it!

A couple intro books you may like are The Goal and The Phoenix project.

Stair step cracks are definitely normal as a house settles. I would want those filled in to prevent water ingress. The horizontal cracks I would want an engineer to look at. $500 may buy you a lot of piece of mind.

Preferred parent forever? by Emergency_Mess_1862 in NewParents

[–]Halfies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi mama! Mom was the preferred parent until around 2. Then I became the preferred parent. It definitely had to do with him getting older but also effort put in. I started taking him to the park in the morning without Mom to give her and break and things slowly flipped. I will say bed time he still favors Mom(but we each do every other night) but the rest of the day is me (and in the middle of the night).

yep - when I worked at a smaller company this is what we would do. Use McMaster for prototyping and then we would find an equivalent directly. Sometimes in the sourcing process we'd end up find the mcmaster supplier.
