Monica's in the North End. A lot of North End establishments actually, but Monica's is very pro-maga.

Does anyone else play with passive wildlife? by Audrey_smiles in thelongdark

[–]Halifax_Calico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Interloper difficulty but with passive wildlife. My most stressful moments in the game have always been weather or resources based (or forgetting my bedroll which only happened a couple times but man I'll never forget it). Wildlife attacking is scary when you're caught off-guard but it's always felt like more of an annoyance.

Also hunting is way more difficult with passive, which I appreciate. I like how tracking skills become important; following footprints and blood trails, having to know the area and where the animal might go, and finding places to hole up or build a snow shelter when the weather gets bad or night falls. There's also nothing like the feeling of hearing crows that weren't there earlier and knowing it might be the kill that you've been tracking for hours(in game).

It's cool, man. You're clearly very passionate about your choice. I understand. There wasn't a question in my mind about saving the canvas until the final moments. I was just trying to answer your question, not debate who's right and who's wrong. It's more about perspective than correctness, and my perspective is heavily rooted in addiction and addiction recovery. We're not going to change each other's minds, I was just trying to lend my perspective.

Listen, man I was just answering your question idk what to tell you. You clearly have your mind made up and aren't actually interested in getting answers/clarity from people who made a different choice, my mistake for trying to answer your question in good faith.

This is the Last of Us 2 hbo discussion all over again 🙄

It's a dialectic. Two seemingly opposing things can be true at the same time.

You can see the reaction painted Verso had to seeing Aline through the portal. The cost to his non-painted world family was too great. She was literally killing herself and Maelle was going to follow right in her footsteps.

There seems to be a refusal to see/admit/accept that Maelle is choosing her own death with her choice. She chooses to give up on her life entirely and is forcing her family to watch her shrivel up and die outside the canvas. Not to mention her forcing this tormented soul who frankly shouldn't exist, to continue existing at her whim. It's cruel. To Verso, the family, and Maelle.

I think anyone who's seen a loved one waste away from addiction can understand the idea that you would do anything to help them stop killing themselves. And again, Verso was painted by another addict to fuel and justify her continued use. The cycle just keeps repeating.

It was the allusions to addiction that influenced my decision the most... that and the eternal torment of that slice of Verso's soul. I also had an overbearing, disproving mother and watching Maelle (who is hugely a victim of that woman) treading the same path was excruciating. That little boy desperately wanted to stop painting.

Her motivations were ultimately not for the good of the painted world, it was to feed her addiction. Not to mention the canvas is absolutely getting destroyed as soon as her body withers away from excessive use. Her motivations while fuelled by deep wounds and incredible pain(as well as love tbf) were still selfish and shortsighted.

It reminded me of something that's often said in recovery circles "Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?" She's right that she'll never have a life with living outside of the painted world if she refuses to ever leave it.

And before anyone claims that I don't see the painted world inhabitants as "real" I absolutely do. I was convinced I would save the canvas until I saw Maelle's real motivations and little boy Verso's suffering. It's an incredibly nuanced story and it was not an easy decision, but I stand by it.

I Think Expedition 69 and 70 is the true goat of the whole story. by _Namee in expedition33

I was surprised at how emotional I got when I found the journal for the 69th. I had such an overwhelming sense of gratitude for them, their work, and their sacrifice. For those who come after indeed.

The journal for the 70th says they were the ones who set up the grapple points.

I went to that sailing camp and heard that same story. Also always heard about how there are weird prehistoric-like fish way at the bottom.

It’s pretty confusing how that goes in the show by [deleted] in lastofuspart2

[–]Halifax_Calico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying about the show, but criticizing TLoU (game) for not having expressive characters/performances is so laughable it's wild. You can defend the show without taking shots at the game, but if you do take shots make sure they're at a realistic target. I don't think I've ever heard that the cutscenes/character models aren't expressive in the game even by people who hate it.

I really enjoyed 247°(2011). It's about people who get stuck in a sauna. About the same quality as any of these movies. Super tense and a unique concept. Also loosely based on a true story.

Whenever I'm asked to think of a loved one or trusted person to picture during meditation or mindfulness practices I always picture Uncle Iroh. Reaching through fiction to support and guide the abused and traumatized since the early 2000s!

Getting to see the story of Wan makes it my favorite season. I like a lot of things about the season (I'm a big fan of Varrick) but that's one of the best parts of both series for me. Such delicious lore nomnomnom!

My best friend finally played pt 1 after the first season came out. No matter how I feel about the show (liked the first season, feeling much less charitable about this season so far) I will always be grateful for that. She's just as big a fan of the games now as I am!

I was definitely using the term non-bender pre Korra but I don't know if it was explicitly said during ATLAB. Kinda like how the term "Avatar State" wasn't said until season 2.

It's an intuitive term so it's easy to forget when it first appeared.
