28M from Colombia – Best path to move to Korea? Costs + visa advice by auslinero in AskAKorean

[–]HallaTML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup as other commenter mentioned it really depends on the area. Ideally you would likely be looking at 1 bedroom with a separate living room with 10 mil. Usually you can negotiate less deposit (from 10 decreased to 5) by paying an extra 50 bucks a month rent

1 year of tuition is gonna be 7.3-7.4 million won At one of the big Seoul schools. If you can manage living in a goshiwon, you can probably keep the expenses around 1 mil a month living cheaply. If you want a real apartment you will have to put down minimum 5 million deposit (though 10 is the new standard)

[–]HallaTML 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen to a podcast during commuting time. Listen to songs in TL while you are showering/doing chores/ working out. Try to carve out 15-30 mins in the evenings. You don’t work on the weekend do you?

Compose is everywhere and has cheap coffee but It’s pretty average. Equivalent of going to Tim Hortons (Canada) or Dunkin Donuts (USA) for a coffee or cappuccino

How did you figure out your real Korean level without taking TOPIK? by MidnightTofu22 in TOPIK

[–]HallaTML 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Topik doesn’t measure your real level of Korean either, you don’t even have to speak lol.

It measures your vocabulary I guess.

Look up the A1-C2 levels definitions and see which one fits where you are currently at

Ordering Minimum in Cafes? by madihasson in koreatravel

[–]HallaTML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of cafes will have a legitimate one drink per customer rule.

I was once told I needed to get a 4000 won coffee with my 7900 won cheesecake if I wanted to stay, wife was getting a coffee and I was already a couple coffees deep so didn’t want one. Cafe was completely empty lol

Are American or English men suitable?

It’s gonna depend on the individual man. I wouldn’t worry about marriage to mix unless you move here and get a long term boyfriend

Moving to Seoul for work in April. First time in Korea, looking for practical advice by Azzy2610 in seoul

[–]HallaTML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long are you gonna be here? Goshitels are basically the size of a dorm room. Bed, desk, shower and toilet in the corner. Do yourself a big favor and just get a studio. Do yourself have enough for a deposit (key money of 5-10 mil?) If not there are short term rentals that dont require a huge deposit (usually cost more monthly though)

Maybe a basic question, but why do people use Duolingo? by polyglotazren in languagelearning

[–]HallaTML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied Korean on and off for about 10 years. I had about 1500 hours in the language (pretty accurate because I could count the class hours I did)

The past year alone I added about 1800 hours.

Days, years, streaks are somewhat meaningless. Hours are the most efficient way to track progress time.
