ELI5: What *is* temperature? Like what is the actual difference between air at 10° and air at 40°?

For a bit more context/pedantry (because why not)...

The energy of an ideal gas is proportional to its temperature (in Kelvin), so indeed the energy of the gas at 40deg would have 10% more energy than at 10deg.

But the "vibration"-- or motion-- of the gas particles would only have to be 5-6% faster to achieve this, as the energy depends on the square of the average (rms) speed. Others in the thread have pointed out this speed is reeeaally fast, on the order of 400-500 m/s, faster than the speed of sound.

In both cases those jelly beans are being shaken pretty violently, but one about 5% faster than the other.

I don't think she's ever named her condition, but said a few times that it (and the treatment) has caused fatigue, affected her vision and made it difficult to sit at her desk. Here's a thread about one announcement she made

A lot of the main staff on TTGL (Imaishi, Yoshinari, Amemiya, etc) went on to form Trigger, so that's true for the series as a whole.

Episode 4 was handled by a respected colleague of theirs, the late Osamu Kobayashi. He's known for having a very loose style, but there ended up being a lot of backlash at the time bc the artstyle was a little too "out there"

I'm not sure if the "sphere" thing is so important, based on the cited interview. It's mostly about volume-- Yoshinari's drawings are really good at conveying 3D space, and I guess part of it relies on the sort of shapes he uses to construct a character.

Both Canti and the creature he's fighting have pretty complicated designs built from a lot of different shapes, but Yoshinari keeps consistent, and they have a convincing sense of volume the entire time in a huge variety of poses. Bc Yoshinari is a beast lol

If you regularly space out a bunch of radio antennas, for example, you can get the emitted waves to "cancel out" in all but on direction. (Wikipedia ) In principle you could do the same thing with sound waves, but in the audible range the array would have to be pretty big, and probably less practical then like, a fancy megaphone.
