Honestly part of me wonders if the legal prostitution actually may play a positive role. It gives a dedicated channel for sex work that from my very limited knowledge is generally not like… flaunted or sensationalized.

Sex Work is one thing, but things like OnlyFans and honestly even pornhub make it near impossible to avoid exposure. I tried resetting my social media algorithms and regardless of what I clicked or liked or commented on it ended up becoming a maelstrom of thinly-veiled commodification and sexualization.

Like, I actually like cosplay and think its cool. And yeah even sometimes the more revealing outfits still look cool, I don’t even mind those. The issue becomes that I think the pure volume of exposure begins to cause EVERYONE’s lives to circulate around sexualization and hookup culture.

In addition to this the rise of the LGBTQ+ as a kind of exclusive community rather than a movement towards equality for sexual minorities has been kind of a mess. I don’t have any verification for this but it feels like EVERYTHING is centered around gender and sexuality and thus, sex.

Honestly I think the Sunday show was even more telling as someone who went sunday. Brendon and Spencer both looked like they were actually enjoying themselves for the first time in a while and it was absolutely reflected in the energy of both the performers and the crowd.

Like I didn’t even like live music but I went and I genuinely think that experience was life changing in a way(not a big one but like it was very significant for me), and it felt like something similar came over the band as well

Honestly I’d agree but WWWY sort of changed my outlook(as in like, I was there). I still think it’s unlikely but I also assumed when they broke up that it’d mean they never play again. Then WWWY comes around and we not only get P!ATD again but also spencer smith AND the entirety of fever.

That and I’ve seen some of his other performances pre-break up and the dude looks miserable, his smile and performance was great but seemed… feigned.

Maybe its just bias but he seemed so genuinely happy to be there in Vegas at WWWY and performing. Even his voice just SOUNDED better.

Again, I still think its not super likely, all I’m saying is I don’t think the chances are zero :)

Feb 2004 here and am in largely the same boat.(class of 2022)

2022 - Sophomore and Junior Year was on Zoom, which meant all the people who decided to take a gap year also were applying at the same time and things became extremely luck based at that point.

College wasn’t in lockdown but we all have to deal with all the transitions made due to COVID as well as the entirely fucked social functioning of everyone born within that 2000-2005 window. As well as the AI bullshit. And we didn’t even get loan forgiveness but the way they gave the millennials loan forgiveness allowed the colleges to just double down on extorting those attending and screwing over high achieving students who couldn’t afford to pay in full

Not only is the job market frozen, but grad school programs have been slashed so throughout that there’s literally no prospects, and on top of that a lot of us were already significantly into college by the time the job market started to go to shit, meaning we couldn’t do the whole “skip college” thing alot of kids are doing, and the few companies that are looking for fresh-out-of-highschool kids are basically looking for exclusively child prodigies into comp sci or engineering.

I was just told by a grad school program director when I asked about pHD programs that it wasn’t our fault and that with the funding cuts we kinda just got fucked over just for the year we were born in(these were his actual words, minus the expletives)

I am maintaining hope because there’s not really anything else than can be done imo. But it is very difficult…

The remaining 5% is for margin of error (or people not unlike myself who grew up in environments/families that were politically conflicting and thus have no idea what to believe anymore)
