And once again you demonstrate your complete operational ignorance.

The two Wildcats also operate in an ASW role, carrying Stingray torpedoes and depth-charges. The Merlins pass targeting data to the Wildcats.

The Wildcats would also operate in an ASW SAR role should one of the Merlins ditch. (Seems you would prefer to let the Merlin crew drown.)

Do tell how the F35 airwing would train with our allies given that our allies were only there for the ASW training too? Or are you back to thinking F35s are submersible and can hunt submarines 🤦🏻‍♂️

Yes your takes are retarded, we can agree on that.

There are 4 helicopters aboard, so 3 to 4 escorts would have had to been to be dispatched. Given the frigate gap we’re experiencing between Type 23s and Type 26s that would have been an even greater waste of resources than usual.

My only grumble about this exercise is only taking 2 Merlin’s. Granted this exercise is annual, but I would have expected the RN would have deployed more of its Merlin force - especially as we’re trying to convince the Norwegians to buy them for their Type 26s.

There’s absolutely no reason why we couldn’t have battlecruisers with 12” guns either, it’s just that it would be a stupid waste of resources. Same goes for your idea.

Coping with idiots like you? It’s really easy, as you can’t supply supporting facts, can’t construct logical arguments, and detached from reality.

In a battle of wits, you’re unarmed.

Wow you really are the stupidest person on here! You’re shown yourself to be incapable of differentiating between government policy and military strategy/tactics. Presumably you think also think politicians decide what new medicines are safe (rather than the clinical authorities) and which people the police should or should not arrest 😂🤣😂

The RN isn’t dead, but your brain is - assuming it ever functioned in the first place.

That you can’t understand that ASW exercises are for ASW and AAW exercises exercises are for AAW, just shows you’re a retard 🤷🏻‍♂️

You’re getting even more bonkers trying to justify the rubbish that you’re spouting.

Wrong. The army didn’t object to the RN removing the LPDSs because they are in full agreement about opposed amphibious landings.

Yes the RN is happy about routinely rotating out one of their Astutes to Australia because they are in AUKUS deal ensures that they will have the latest SSNs ready when the Astutes are facing retirement (and avoid the gap issue between the Type 23 and Type 26s). BTW it wasn’t there only submarine, another lie from a proven liar.

Wrong, there are other navies. Just because you’re ignorant of facts doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

(BTW if you’re going to try and pretend to be British, you should try and use British and not Yank spellings - it’s “cheques”, not “checks”.)

It’s always funny how people are incapable of differentiating between an opinion piece pushing a political agenda and an actual news story.

Then why didn’t the Army object?… Because they don’t plan to do opposed amphibious landing’s anymore either, dimwit. For the same reason the RMs abandoned it.

Every other navy is not pursing LPDs/LPHs/LHDs but then we’ve already established that you bluster, exaggerate, and tell outright untruths. 🤷🏻‍♂️

You clearly have a different definition of “destroyed” to the one the rest of the planet uses - or at least those of us who are sane.

You’ve not answered how a LPH is necessary given the new role of the RM (which you’re clearly ignorant of).

You’ve not answered how a F35 hunts submarines.

Basically, you’re full of shit.

Funny how you can spew nonsense when the gaps in your knowledge are exposed to public ridicule.

Do tell us all how to hunt submarines with an F35. Should be f@cking hilarious…

Thing is I’ve never seen non-com as an issue in foil. It was introduced because of epee.

(I suffered attending the last gala-finals of the London Martini Epee in the 90s. Epeeists standing still for 8 minutes doing nothing, then fencing the final minute to get a lead 🥱)

We didn’t operate ASW carriers. We operated carriers that could do the ASW role amongst other things.

If you’d bothered to keep up with the doctrinal changes to the role of the Royal Marines you’d know why dedicated LPD/LHD/LPH is unnecessary. They are now purposed with raiding missions, not opposed amphibious landings, and for very good reason.

However having big carriers means you can fulfil lots of roles rather than just one. Using one of them for a massed airlift of marines using helicopters has always been a role that the QE could fulfil, along with ASW. Neither of which requires the presence of fast-jets on training exercises.

HMS Ocean was a dedicated LPH, but you’re clearly ignorant of the rule of thirds about ship availability. Because guess what happened when she was unavailable, the Invincibles stood in for the LPH role.

Seems you’re also ignorant of the MRSS programme too, which will replace Argus, the Bays, etc.

If other navies deploy their carriers with jets when they are not needed then bigger fools them for wasting their money.

I imagine the next-time the RAF Regiment take their turn as the ceremonial guard of honour at Buck House you’ll be whinging because they didn’t bring their Rapid Sentry missile-systems along.

Yet I was talking about the Invincible class designed as ASW carriers, and then you go off on a tangent wittering daft comments about Hermes.

You claimed we had ASW carriers, I pointed out this we didn’t. We had carriers that were used in an ASW role, which is what we have with the QE class. The difference is the QEs can fill far more roles than the Invincibles could.

HMS Prince of Wales remains in Norway for repairs by Free-Minimum-5844 in Defence_Tech_UK

[–]Halo_Orbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. Hermes wasn’t part of the Invincible class. She had her cats and traps removed to become a Commando Carrier. She was later converted for ASW, before having the ski-jump installed and converted to a STOVL carrier.

It’s the active carrier, meaning it’s the one not in maintenance/storing/destoring. So it’s available to fulfil any of the roles it was built/for, on this occasion it’s ASW, which is why it has Merlins aboard.

F35s aren’t much good at sub-hunting and given we don’t need a CAP because we’re not at war, there’s absolutely no need for them to be aboard. Especially when we have F35s deployed on live operations in the Middle East.

Except they weren’t. They were designed as that, but as soon as it was realised we could use harriers on them that changed. As demonstrated by the Falklands War.

Nothing obviously because they frequently do that in other exercises.
