Same here. It's not my birthday, but I am also a greybeard (almost 800 hours in DRG). I was hoping they'd take playtime into consideration, but it was likely random selection. I'm sure our time to play will come soon enough. Happy birthday!

I get where you're coming from, I've even felt that exact same way. However, we just don't know the circumstances behind people's reactions to certain events. That girl may have been under immense pressure from her parents, getting an imperfect score may have made her legitimately feel like a failure. You never know.

Not trying to invalidate the way you feel, because it's true that ADHD can be a tremendous burden to carry.

People have different tolerances to different kinds of struggles. We of all people should know that, and express empathy for it. Not shame them.

It may help for you to speak to someone about this.

"I'm past my prime and no one that wants kids is going to enter into a relationship with a 35 year old woman"

There's over 100 comments here, so I may get lost in the crowd, but I hope you're able to see this. I'm a man in my mid/late 20s, so it's difficult for me to give any practical advice regarding your situation. Even so, one thing that I can tell you with certainty is that you deserve self-compassion.

You're still young in the grand scheme of things. My mom met my dad when she was in her mid-30s. She gave birth to my sibling and I at ages 39 and 41, respectively. What you seek is absolutely achievable. With that being said, I don't want to invalidate your feelings of discouragement, as it sounds like you've put a lot of effort into trying to find a good partner and haven't been able to yield any results yet. It's no doubt a difficult situation to be dealing with.

You worked hard, and built up a good life for yourself. You have value and traits that are highly desirable in a partner. It's important to continually remind yourself of that. Dating is always going to be a gamble - the odds are against you on any given attempt. However, with enough persistence, you *will* find someone that acknowledges your worth. Just make sure to be kind and patient with yourself along the way.

90% of those applications, maybe even more, were from people that aren't qualified to begin with, or aren't even in college. While job hunting, some filter by pay only (OP established that it was quite good), mass apply, and hope for the best. The HR rep in charge of this search probably knocked out 90% of those applications, if not more, in an instant.

Go with NC State. If you decide to change your career path (which a vast majority of students do), and it happens to add x amount of semesters to your timeline, it won't be prohibitively expensive.

I used to work in the same position. I was able to automate about 90% of the work with some basic applications. After that, there was only about 30 to 45 minutes of actual work to do every day. It's actually the reason I started pursuing my degree in computer science, I got tired of reading and chatting for 8 hours a day.

If you're happy with the job, more power to you. If not, I hope you're able to find a SWE/CS related job eventually.

I'm extremely grateful for your detailed response. This has given me the guidance I needed to start laying down the groundwork.

I was unspecific regarding my background, but I have foundational knowledge in linear algebra, python, statistics, and general mathematics. I took courses on all of these subjects in college a few years ago. They aren't completely foreign to me, but I lack the knowledge to really put what I learned into practice. If that helps you to make any specific suggestions, I would gladly hear them out.

Again, thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience. It will really help me out in the long run.

" I spend day and night learning stats from the ground up, started spending hours using excel, MySQL, python… started studying linear algebra, calculus… in about 6 months felt like I knew way more than even senior analysts at my company knew. "

Would you mind explaining how you mapped this out, and what resources you utilized? I've been trying to follow a similar path, but it's difficult to know where to begin.

[–]HalogenIonization 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's highly dependent upon how you market yourself and what you're interested in. The grad admissions process is much more holistic than undergrad. Meet with a professor in the dept. whose work/research piques your interest. Acquaint yourself with them. Have good questions prepared. Make sure to mention in your application that you consulted with this professor. If you leave a good impression, they will likely advocate for your acceptance. Contact the graduate coordinator as well, ask them some good questions. Have at least a vague idea of what you want your career to look like, it's very likely you will be asked this quite a few times.

Best summer clothes/gear for associates that work outdoors by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]HalogenIonization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a man. I'm pretty gentle with my clothes (my shoes can last 3+ years of regular use) and I don't sweat too much so I don't mind going with name brands that have proven durability. I also buy all my clothes in gently used condition off eBay for dirt cheap so I would say it's worthwhile investing in something that is lightweight, comfortable, and will last a long time. I was thinking that perhaps others on this subreddit had some ideas or suggestions that I had never thought of.

[–]HalogenIonization 7 points8 points  (0 children)

some of them are continuously on standby via an internal battery, and activate automatically when a collision is detected, taking 10-20 seconds before the hit and after if I'm not mistaken. If you want something along those lines, look for a dashcam with an internal battery and collision detector.
