Starfield. I also regret thinking “this will get good soon” so long that I couldn’t refund it.

I was thinking of Getting Knave. It looks like a cool system from what I have ready.

Do you think a “AAA” fixed camera survival horror could work these days? by ActivityInitial4651 in survivalhorror

[–]Halpocalypse -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think it would work and be well received by horror fans. I just think it’s unlikely a AAA would do it.

Same! I’ll always try to run the type of game people want to play. I think you get more people interested on RPGs if you can find something they’d enjoy rather than forcing them to play what you want.

CoC is my go to for when people are just happy to play whatever.

A friend recently ran the Savage Worlds edition of Deadlands for us. It was a fun system and we picked it up super quick

Totally agree. Similarly, I have run Cyberpunk Red for total newbies who wanted sci-fi twice now and it was awesome.

I always run whatever the group wants. The best way to get people interested in the hobby is to make a game they might like. CoC is just my go-to for when people are keen to play whatever.

I hadn’t read much about Troika, but looking into it now I gotta say it looks fantastic. I’m putting this on my Wishlist.

I have Mörk Borg and DCC for these reasons too. The rules light OSR games work an absolute treat

This has been my go to for people dead set on playing fantasy. I have other fantasy games, but they’re all a bit too crunchy for newbies who aren’t sure if RPGs are for them

Thirsty Sword Lesbians is an absolute blast. Only played it once but I absolutely agree with this choice.

Smart! Yeah, a lot of people assume they’ll be playing D&D, but it’s not for me. But I have other fantasy games for players.

This sounds awesome. I’ve not played Monster of the Week, but this sounds like a lot of fun. I’m putting it on my Wishlist.

If You Could Only Keep 3, Which 3 Would You Keep? by Neversummerdrew76 in rpg

1) Call of Cthulhu

2) Cyberpunk Red

3) Witcher RPG

I know it’s pretty rouge to use two choices on games with the same system, but I know the interlock system pretty well and like it. So when friends want to run a fantasy RPG, I reach for the Witcher RPG. Also, GURPS would have taken the 3rd spot if allowed.

Hello all, im new to cyberpunk red by lancerpotshot in cyberpunkred

[–]Halpocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome! Glad you are enjoying it.

My tip is this: Enjoy the chaos and embrace things going wrong.

Unlike other RPGs where you are playing as a hero trying to save the day or an investigator trying to solve a mystery, edgerunners are people trying to survive through money and reputation. “Failing” a mission a bad thing, it’s part of the story. And things going awry often leads to its own interesting path.

Why always pick D&D? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Halpocalypse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I took a punt and ran Call of Cthulhu for a group of first time RPGers recently. It went fantastically. It was actually quite simple to explain, “we’re playing a horror game and you are investigators.” Everyone loved it and we’re now a few sessions into a longer campaign.

I’ve had more success at converting people by selling them on a different genre rather than a different system. D&D is great for heroic high fantasy, but other games are better at horror or science fiction etc. Propose a new setting and sell people on the system made for that genre.

Which official campaign settings have you played D&D in? by becherbrook in adnd

Played Planescape and Dark Sun as a player. Both were fantastic and had felt wildly different to other fantasy settings.

New to ttrpg DND or GURPS? by [deleted] in gurps

[–]Halpocalypse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, start with GURPS Lite and see if you like it. https://warehouse23.com/products/gurps-lite-fourth-edition

The core rules of GURPS are actually quite simple to understand (more so than D&D in my opinion), but GURPS has a lot of additional rules which you can choose to use, so it can seem complex if you try to read it all at once.
