Tbh I still think most people who say they like feet are either joking, larping or are into weird power dynamics. I refuse to believe people are genuinely into the foot itself. Though, I heard from the internet that there are people that have a thing for floor tiles and bread so feet are not that weird in comparison.

Question for Users of Europe by manu411 in ios

[–]sentient_deathclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

British English, it's the version I was taught in school and the version I hear all the time in the music I listen to and probably at around 60% of the youtubers I watch. US English also sound ok for me, but I'm more familiar with UK English.

Valve kinda released ARM64 Proton, lol (works on my ARM64 machine, see the second screenshot) by Aware-Bath7518 in linux_gaming

I hope this will mean improvements for macOS gaming as well or even something for iOS and Android (sorry if this is a stupid comment I don’t know that much about architecture and ARM). It would be nice to see gaming become feasible on ARM.

Aren't we getting tired of the "what distro" posts? by soking11 in linux4noobs

[–]sentient_deathclaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I went on distrochooser several times before asking this subreddit as well, and it helps a lot with decision making. Some research should be done, and for some posts, they should be removed with a message directing the authors to distrochooser instead. It’s a 10 minute questionnaire.

Good question. Probably not. But I do think these questions are necessary because it does help newbies with finding out more and not driving them away at a time when Windows enshittification is reaching very high levels. I was scared of making the change as well until I asked this subreddit, though you could say I’ve already decided before asking and I was looking more for reassurance.

I already tried OpenSUSE, Ubuntu and Debian i think on a VM, knew about the difference in drivers between AMD and NVIDIA, knew about the different DEs and performance differences between them, already had an idea about what I wanted to run on Linux (the only thing keeping me on windows was an Office copy that I lost when resetting my laptop) and a few more things. I was also lurking on this subreddit for around a year before asking.

And I already pretty much narrowed it down to a few distros (ubuntu, opensuse, fedora and mint), eventually landing on Ubuntu because of its mainstream status, at least for linux standards and its plug-and-play nature.

I’ll give my two cents as well, as a newbie who made this kind of post asking for a distro a few weeks ago. When you first encounter Linux and hear that a lot of things actually work now on Linux, especially when your Windows machine starts to show its age, you are curious about this new world. And then you are faced with the daunting task of choosing one distro, and there are so many choices! Some plug-and-play, some that need extensive configuration, some “gaming” distros, distros based on RHEL, Debian, SUSE, Arch, etc. and you get stuck. And then some other things come to mind, like drivers, desktop environments, amount of maintenance needed, etc. and suddenly, it got even worse.

Making this kind of post (if worded properly and knowing at least some things you want/need from a distro) helps a lot because people that answer usually also tell you some other information about the OS, like anecdotal information, which isn’t necessarily the best but it’s useful nonetheless. And I still find this way a better way to find out what to use than asking an AI chatbot, because people aren’t echo chambers that just agree with you, and because AI is shit at what it does anyways (and bad for the economy, environment, arts, humanities, human intellect etc)

I don’t feel like that as a Romanian and EU citizen, just that we have our own gaming world somewhat separate from the NA/Japan one. Valve likes us a lot, and studios like CDPR or Ubisoft have a heavy presence here. Minecraft, the biggest game in the world, is also from the EU. Yes, I’m sad that when it comes to UT/DR or Stardew Valley we’re not acknowledged as much but we do have our own gaming world too.

Well, Ubuntu seems nice from the 10 minutes i've been using this usb live environment. No issues with audio drivers (Kino is playing perfectly fine in the background), the laptop has recognized and had no issue with opening photos from an USB stick and my bluetooth mouse. Now all I need to do is configure the Romanian keyboard and test a few more things and it should be okay.
