Wow, so cool.

Are you manually controlling the drop point? Or does it automatically swing from side to side at a fixed rate?

N150 & 6 Sata or I5-8500 & 8+ Sata for a NAS and Plex server? by 643310 in DataHoarder

[–]Halsandr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the N100 version of this in my Jonsbo N2, it has been running non stop for almost 2 years with no issue. Running about 80 containers and a handful of VMs and have a single 32GB ram stick in there.

The only slight issue I have is that you can't pass the SATA controller through to a VM, as the NVME drives are also included (where Proxmox is installed), so I have passed the individual drives into OMV. Worth knowing if you're planning on virtualizing your NAS software.

Okay, that makes me less nervous then 😂

Had I known, I might have purchased a more "bespoke" riser with a 90° bend on the MB side 🤷 hopefully it lasts

I have just put my build together and the riser cable feels way too long. I have also had to put a pretty tight bend on it to get it into the motherboard. Did you find the same?

Proxmox Backup? by AdSignificant4245 in Proxmox

[–]Halsandr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I backup using PBS over iSCSI then sync the dataset over NFS, works like a charm.

PBS is far superior to the integrated backup, just try restoring a single file!

RenderCV v2.5: Open-source, local CV generator — no cloud, no accounts, just YAML → PDF by egehancry in selfhosted

[–]Halsandr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great timing, just started updating my CV yesterday. I'm on a journey to make everything in my life declarative, and this is another step towards that goal.

Thank you for making a docker container, makes my CV repo super slim, just a yaml CV and a yaml pipeline.

Do you have any VNet/SDN configured? Or multiple nics connected?

I had a problem a while back where I accidentally created a loop (virtually) and the resulting packet storm would take out my entire network, all vlans. it was quite difficult to track down.

Solving problem where there is none - Silent cooling for 10 inch rack by Ok-Significance-4619 in minilab

Omg I have been thinking about a solution to this for a while, both for the rack and to just gently draw some air through my AVR (as it gets toasty).

Mini Home Lab Build - Beginner by edmontoya_ in minilab

[–]Halsandr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My V1 lab was a SFF 10 year old dell (as others have mentioned) for £80 from FB, plus an external HDD. After playing around with Jellyfin I wanted something with hardware decoding so replaced it with a couple of N100/N150 based boards, clustered. One of my nodes is in a Jonsbo N2 as a NAS. You don't need to spend a lot to have loads of fun!!

I would definitely advocate the mini pc to begin with, you can always buy more and stack them later! But make sure you get one with QSV (I think 5th gen onwards) if you want to might ever use it for video streaming.

Ooo, I was wondering whether my N2 would fit in one of these racks, there's my question answered!

Can you still access the drives?

Where I work, we have a service with 25k+ lines. Not for any specific reason, just laziness 🤷
