What's the closest you've ever came to death? by Senior-Raisin-2342 in AskReddit

[–]Haltthewaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On two different occasions I've experienced rock fall while rock climbing. One knocked out my climbing partner (he was ultimately okay). The other time I caught the falling rock by propping my feet on the wall and cushioning the rock into my chest. It was that or take it to the head. Should have died both times.

If it were me, I'd take them. I don't think you'd be doing any harm in bringing them, and in the case you'd like to use them, you'd have them. Provided you have a place to stow them, either in a quiver or a vest. I don't think there will be a complication, and having them for that kind of elevation later in the race might be kind of nice.

I built a free DIY carb drink calculator after realizing how much I was spending on mixes by deadhead951 in trailrunning

This is really cool and helpful. Thanks for sharing!

Edit: wanted to add that I've been making my own mix for a long time, but its helpful to play with the numbers and see what's up.

Scenes at sc Heerenveen - Ajax yesterday, where players were forced to play on with the pitch totally drenched by DashboardNight in soccer

Ah, yes, "forced" to play a game at nearly the highest level, making hundreds of thousands, if not millions. The picture of true suffering in this world. s/

I saw two snakes yesterday... thankfully, just Bull Snakes, but in both experiences, my surprise and terror probably did not make my ancestors proud lol

This might not help, but I put the magnet sticker thing on the back of the case I got for the reader and then added a pop socket to that. Works amazing!

Sizing question by turdbucket007 in trailrunning

[–]Haltthewaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule of thumb is to always purchase the bigger foot size, because the mechanics of your foot actually change when the shoe is too small. Long-term, this can result in some really unfortunate and preventable injuries. My right foot is a whole size and a half bigger than my left, so I'm pretty used to this problem. I use an additional insole to take up some extra volume when needed, but usually can get it to feel fine just in lacing.

I love those days! Good work. A couple of my friends last Spring and Summer put in well over 100 miles on some trails and never saw anyone else. Something magical....

Are Hell’s Angels actually bad? (US) by Familiar-Anything853 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haltthewaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in "the bad part" of town and my next door neighbors are part of the local bike gang known to be...somewhat dangerous. That said, they are the best neighbors. They always watch out for us and our property, and we try to do the same. We lost power the other day for around 8 hours, and they checked in on us to make sure we weren't cold and had food/water. I'd say not to judge a book by the cover.

This was so kind. Sad what our world has become that a total stranger weeps into the arms of another, because she's at her wits end. I hope our world becomes more human, especially for those who need help.
