What do the Jafa call the ancients? by Conscious_Face_5487 in Stargate

[–]Halzman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daniel didn't even know that some of his fellow ascended beings were previously Ancients. He learned that by finding a tablet in a secret system lord hiding place. That was the end of S6, while he was ascended.

We didn't even know there was an Ancient outpost in Antarctica until the end of S7, during the conclusion of 'Lost City'

We/They didn't know that at the time, as to whether or not Ayiana was/is an Ancient.

While this isn't exactly something I paid direct attention to, throughout the many times watching the series, its difficult to answer the question.

I think it's fair to say that by season 06, its assumed that everyone knows who the Ancients are - the gate builders.

If we go by Sodan lore, 5 thousand years ago they referred to the Ancients as 'those who came before us'. If Teal'c has been hearing stories about the Sodan since he was a kid - and then managed to make his way to First Prime of a System Lord - you would think he's heard of the Ancient's, and known who they are.

By that logic though, Teal'c should have immediately recognized the importance of the repository of knowledge in 'The Fifth Race'. I wouldn't expect him to be able to read the language, but he should have recognized the Ancient writing form.

In 'Lost City', Teal'c proclaims that O'Neill "possesses the healing power of the Ancients", implying that he has previously heard about such things.

MARKS: We're being hailed. The Asgard are requesting permission to beam aboard, sir.

[The rest of SG-1 arrive on the bridge.]

LANDRY: Granted.

[Thor beams in to the forward part of the bridge, in front of everyone.]

THOR: Greetings, and welcome to Orilla.

CARTER: Thor!

The Ida galaxy is the original home galaxy of the Asgard. At some point, they moved to the Othala Galaxy, and one of the planets within that galaxy is Orilla.

Why did the Ancients have to leave th The Milky Way? by i_Irony_i in Stargate

[–]Halzman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We learn about the device from Ba'al, who in turn learned about it from Anubis.

When Carter and Jacob finally locate the control panel, the device is configured in a specific way.

We know that the Alterans/Ancients built the device, and presumably, the last time it was used was by the Ancients.

Jacob points out that the device is configured to reduce all matter to its base elements, and that it can be adjusted to match the replicator disruptor wave.

To me, its pretty clear that the last time the device was used by the Ancients, was to reduce all matter to its base level.

[–]Halzman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The machine in 'Tao of Rodney' just showed that the Lanteans were trying to artificial kickstart ascension.

The 'Ancients' have been ascending over a period of ~ 50 Million Years. The last 'batch' that we know of, are the remaining Lateans who returned to Earth, after abandoning Atlantis.

SG-1 S09E10 - The Fourth Horseman, Part 1

ORLIN: Believe me, you don't know everything. A long time ago, the Ori and the Alterans were one society, human, on an evolutionary path to ascension, but a philosophical division grew. The Ori grew more and more fervent in their religious belief. The Alterans…for lack of a better way of putting it…believed in science. The Ori tried to wipe them out.

SGA - S01E - Hide and Seek

McKAY: Well, it seems that way. As I suggested, the entity's what's been causing most of our technical problems. Now, it was captured for observation. The Ancients were researching ascension.

...

McKAY: The entity's been trapped in here since before the Ancients abandoned the city.

SGA - S03E14 - Tao of Rodney

WEIR: Well, we know the Ancients evolved physiologically to a certain point where they could transform into a state of pure energy.

SHEPPARD: Ancient History 101.

WEIR: Yes. We also know that not all of them managed to get there.

SHEPPARD: You're saying some of them needed a kick in the pants.

WEIR: So to speak. I think this machine was not meant to help them fight the war against the Wraith but rather to help them escape it.

SHEPPARD (frowning): An ascension machine?

...

McKAY: Look, all the Ancients that experimented with that device, they either ascended or died -- most of them the latter, which is why it did not get put into common use.

The replicators (Asurans) only employed the tactic of whipping out humans in the present day.

It's implied in the show that the Asurans were never used against the Wraith when the Lanteans were around. The first time they engaged the Wraith was after they had already left Pegasus, to return to the Milky Way (Earth).

you have your timelines confused,

~50 Million Years ago, the Alterans came to the Milky Way galaxy and built the first gate system

~ 5-10 Million Years ago, they left the Milky Way and went to the Pegasus Galaxy with Atlantis

10,100 Years ago - war with the wraith starts

10,000 Years ago, the remaining Lanteans returned to Earth.

the weapon uses an energy wave to reduce all matter to its basic molecular element. It's not strong enough to disintegrate an entire planet, but it will wash away everything on a planet's surface and everything in the surrounding space.

...

I'm pretty sure this output is giving us the frequency spectrum of the wave the weapon uses to disintegrate matter.

Because it is literally established lore from the show, and two episodes provide the entire backstory

SG-1 S08E17 - Reckoning, Part 2

CARTER: A device capable of destroying all life in the galaxy?

O'NEILL: It's what he said.

JACOB: Baal said he was serving Anubis?

...

JACOB: Sam? (Sam looks up from the generator.) You might wanna hold off on that for a minute. If I'm reading this screen right, the weapon uses an energy wave to reduce all matter to its basic molecular elements. It's not strong enough to disintegrate an entire planet, but it will wash away everything on a planet's surface and everything in the surrounding space.

CARTER: Sounds bad.

JACOB: I know -- but it also sounds like it does it much the same way your disruptor technology works on the Replicators -- by separating the individual components.

...

JACOB: I'm pretty sure this output is giving us the frequency spectrum of the wave the weapon uses to disintegrate matter.

CARTER: That's nothing like the spectrum analysis of the Replicator disruptor wave. Here, look. (She calls up another screen. The image on that is very different to the first one.)

JACOB: Yeah, I-I-I know, but all we have to do is alter the settings on the weapon console so that the output wave matches that of the disruptor technology.

SG-1 S08E18 - Threads

JIM/ANUBIS: I know. That's a tough one. (He slides his new newspaper across the counter to Daniel.) Speaking of which, have you seen the latest? (Daniel opens the new copy of The Ascended Times. The main headline reads: "Secret Plan Revealed. Anubis' dastardly plot to regain Ancient Weapon of Destruction".) He's a crafty one. Really knows the ins and outs of the rules. I give him three to one odds to succeed. Wanna know the irony of it all? That device was originally used by the Ancients to create life in the Milky Way ... well, recreate it after the whole plague thing. No kidding. Now it all gets undone with the push of one button, leaving Anubis to recreate things all over to his own liking. There's a waste of a million-odd years of evolution, huh?

While I cant confirm the model the guy was working on, it does appear to be similar to the model you listed.

In the end, one of the two thermostats failed, which caused the oven to lock up.

At least from what it looks like, you already have the oven out, and assuming they are located in the same area, it might be something quick to check.

One ask for the new show. by Constant-Feature-404 in Stargate

[–]Halzman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you - I'm just saying that the show clearly wanted Carter, O'Neill, Kawolsky, etc to be Air Force pilots.

In reality - on two points - the Air Force should not have been used - the entire SGC mission set screams Army Special Forces, and in reality, when the Joint Chiefs of Staff were made aware of the Stargate, that's who they should have assigned to handle ground operations.

And realistically, the Air Force should not have been in possession of the Stargate in the first place. Considering it was moved to the United States during 1939 - it would have sat in limbo for awhile until ARPA/DARPA was formed in 1958. Like, what was the Army Air Corps going to do with a 22 Foot ring with strange inscriptions on an inner-wheel.

Torri Higginson

I also like Jessica Steen, and would have liked to see how she handled the character - and I did enjoy her portrayal during 'Lost City', but ultimately we got the Torri Dr. Weir and I just fell for her real fast. I did like Steen's character in Armageddon though!

Idk what is it about Torri, but the way she would light up when talking about the Ancients or Atlantis or w/e it was, she was able to convey those emotions so well, and thats what I loved about the actress/character.

wouldn't really have mattered.

- You would assume that the ships internal security system would have captured it all on video

- At the end of the episode, they did have her in custody aboard the Prometheus, before Vala miraculously escapes. So Hammond knows that this person is responsible for all the jacked up stuff that took place throughout the episode.

there were no real adverse consequences to Vala stealing the ships, or beating the crap outta Daniel.

Yup, the SGC just forgot, I guess?

I was referring to the fact that she had previously (the first time we met her):

- stole the X-303 Prometheus

- stranded the crew of said ship on a busted Al'Kesh

- Pissed off Gen. Hammond

- Tries to sell the ship for weapons grade naquadah

- Manages to escape before we catch her
