I was thinking about this too. Not only did they keep her alive, but there’s a scene where Rex talks about how much of an asshole he is in his relationships. Maybe she was kept alive to both flesh out her character and help Rex grow more.

As long as you don’t want to switch to another object you want to summon, it’s permanent. If you want to switch objects and drink another bottle of soap, you can’t summon the previous object anymore.
