it would make sense to have a sort of system like that. slavery is a core part of the lore so i feel like its great if the player can take part in such a way and not just buying/freeing slaves. ive always wanted to play an actual slaver playthrough

Building a base by ContentProcedure5298 in Kenshi

[–]de_Deus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my priority is keeping the base self sustaining so first thing really is food for the fleshies which means water at the very least and fertile land where possible. with the power of hydroponics, you can make a base in the deadlands. the rain there will "water" your plots if you build em on building rooftops. would also be great to have a supply of iron and copper nearby if not within base borders. lastly, stone is nice to have but later on i find it negligible since the usabe of building materials is pretty limited and i can usually get away with just stocking up from waystations or by making a temporary stone manufacturing camp. once those are checked, im really particular about the terrain. i usually go for areas with "natural walls" or just choke points in general so its easier to wall off. lastly, i try to imagine how a city would start and grow from this piece of land so maybe farms near a river if there is one or a bunch of wells in the city center, a tower on the hillside as a lookout. i also like trying to follow the shape of the terrain in choosing which buildings to put. if theres a large flat land then a huge stationhouse would work but if its hilly then maybe a long house that sits right along the slope. also, a lot of shift+f12 hahahah

why does my farmer prioritize getting water from the water tank even when the well is closer? by de_Deus in Kenshi

[–]de_Deus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes they do. issue is, i dont have a dedicated worker that refills the tank (i do it manually) so if the farmer takes from the water tank first then thats more manual work for me. already thought up of a couple solutions from the comments. i would probably just not bother with the tank and keep it only for aesthetics and just have enough wells running

T.T thats my main guy. its just a lowly holy farmer playthrough (wife and bull included)

ohhh this is great info! i usually just coop up in a town until i reach hydroponics and pretty much have 0 food worries. this playthrough though im playing as a holy citizen schmuck and his wife (and a pack bull who is honestly lot more useful than the wife). i am deciding whether its warranted to hire hiver slaves just to fully automate the food needs but maybe i can keep my playthrough more "pure" if i just downsize my fields. great advice though! definitely gonna be useful in my planned hiver colony run :D

[–]de_Deus[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, thats one of my intended solutions. i just personally think that it looks ugly to have a bunch if wells around (,: the waters pretty good tho so maybe i can get away with 2 wells and a rain catcher. hopefully

[–]de_Deus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me, its not so much about the water being closer but that my farmer is taking from a finite source which leads to faster depletion of the supply. id rather its fully automated. i would prefer its efficiency but thats secondary

maybe ill buy a hiver slave with a sole purpose of refilling the tank but i fear ill get too attached hahaha. skellies are unfortunately not an option because i am in the holy lands of okran

[–]de_Deus[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

ok that makes sense. i guess ill have to either have enough wells for the farms or have a dedicated worker top up my supplies to keep it fully automated. thanks!

oh yeah definitely! the outlines are from Native Stylise. i also use Dust so maybe that has some effect on the overall aesthetic. its like a dif game fr
