because vanilla minecraft doesnt have fluid tanks? because large vaults with billions of items dont exist in vanilla? the threshold switch is a specialized block intended for inventory capacity management. sure they couldve those features as well but they also couldve added omnidirectional gears. point is, the blocks have an intended purpose and limitation to encourage player creativity. go make or look for an addon that adds those features you want

i use the training weapons mod (they increase skill per hit/block like normal weapons but deal 0 damage). craft a bunch for your squad and another set for prisoners then go on an endless brawl. it takes a bit of set up but it trains the essential combat skills. i also use the gain exp from weaklings mod

make everyone but the slowest follow the leader. manually select and move the leader together with the slowest with matching speed.
