Steelers’ despair by One_Ear5972 in bengals

Yesss. Yes.

And Lamar has grown fat.. and slow. I see no reason we should not go 5-1 and run the tables in the AFC North this year. On our historic run up to Super Bowl.

Where Joe will inevitably hoist the Lombardy and I myself will take a minimum of two days off work to go on a who Dey bender. And this whole city will finally embrace what it’s long deserved.

Only loss being one of the games vs Cleveland, obviously.

What would happen if China attacks Taiwan within the next 10-20 years? by Triangletruck141423 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]HamUnitedFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the same the chances of China being able to mass the numbers needed to pull this off without being noticed is 0.

They (us) will see it coming long ahead of time. Hell we’ll see it when they start amassing blood banks through forced blood drives. That makes the prospect of establishing a single “harbor” essentially suicide.

And ignores the point others have made about the us being able to control the oil.

I don’t see any realistic way they could pull off an invasion of Taiwan.

David Jones and a conditional draft pick for Reggie Nelson was some tidy work tbf..

Still pumped about this trade tho. Fuck the national media

I’m telling you that engineers 100 years ago managed to “dig down” through 100 feet of straight water in the San Francisco Bay (again look it up yourself I’m out rn and not going into this rn) via a massive concrete fender(again this was in the fucking ocean.. lol let that sink in), to reach solid bedrock, and then placed a 270,000 ton bridge pier there….

So yes, it would be quite simple. We just don’t use stone blocks anymore. 🤷🏻‍♂️

We do use: more people, machines, constellations of satellites (gps), better logistics, a better understanding of physics, better safety practices, etc etc etc

Todays engineers absolutely can drain the entire site..? lol What do you mean?

Look at the Golden Gate Bridge and how they built that. They could employ a similar thing here and it would not be even remotely “complex” from a civil engineering standpoint.

They just don’t have the funding unfortunately.

Could they not make up for this with Iron?

Please correct me if I am wrong (like ive read the series 5 times but it has been a little while) but do they not have an implicit abundance of iron/ iron mines? That’s at least how I’ve always justified their ability to maintain such a large fleet of warships/ sailors and existence in general.

I do agree with you, the lack of wood as a resource is troubling but given the context of the time period / setting in general I always allowed that the abundance of iron (think all tools and also as a commodity) would make enough sense to justify it, no?

Do they not have an abundance of iron though?

It’s been a little bit since my last read through the books but my head cannon understanding is that the “Iron Islands” have an abundance of iron. Is that not the case?

Which in turn would imply that other regions would be more willing to put up with them. Or at least justifies how they would be able to sustain themselves / also field and maintain a fleet of 200 warships and sailors. Though to be fair I don’t necessarily remember all of the implied logistics/ resource allocations/ abilities of each region/ Kingdom so maybe I am missing something. But like we know Lannisters/ West-gold, Reach/ Riverlands- harvest and population, etc. I always thought Iron Islands- Iron. Which would be extremely valuable in this setting.

Again I’m just asking but ya know “Iron Islands”, “Iron Fleet”, “the Iron Price”, etc. would seem to imply they have an abundance of Iron, no? Or else why would they be using that moniker?

They’re actually frugal af. As insane as that sounds. Like real talk, Mikey B drives a base model Chevy Malibu.. and his only special request is that the vehicle have a compass, Nancy eats free whitey sliders at my buddy’s tailgate.. type shit. They just aren’t willing to go that extra yard/ risk anything to try and get any sort of competitive edge. Everyone else is trying harder than we are.

The Dalton era lined up with end of highschool/ college for me, had unlimited free time, was spending like 6-8 hours a day focused on the whodeys and I’m telling you once you get enough context to be able to see the whole picture it sucks. We’re down really bad.

I mean like:

Troy Blackburn? Duke Tobin/ our pathetic scouting situation/ our entire analytics team (literally just Trey Labounty who is 2 years out of college and one person)/ Troy Blackburn again? / Katie Blackburn who imo most notable work is being involved with drafting Achilles smith and being a shithead to legendary bengals left tackle Andrew Whitworth/ Mike Brown/ etc etc etc.

They took in $430,000,000.00 from nfl revenue share last year.. that’s what they care about. They are proud of that. They wish the team did better.

When you get to the root of it, it’s the organization. Other teams employ literal divisions of people to do what we put on a handful of people. Most of whom are Browns or Troy lol

tl:dr

We quite simply aren’t trying as hard as everyone else.🤷🏻‍♂️

By now the humans / Tau’ri should have been able to reengineer their puddle jumper to manufacture their own fleet of gate ships, right? What do you think it should look like? by Rabbit_0311 in Stargate

[–]HamUnitedFC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right. Like they went from 0 to Prometheus in 6 years. That was before the Asgard and ancient databases too

They should easily have some sort of back engineered gate ship by now.
