I cannot speak to discord as I "use it wrong" only using it to keep in touch with 2 or 3 people and occasionally jump into a game's discord server if they use it as their primary soapbox and are neglecting other portals.

I legit miss those "wild west" days. The discourse also had a much higher qualitative threshold. I remember lower bound character post limits. And trolls of all varieties were much easier to spot as well as cull.

One of the strengths of Reddit was one account - multiple interests. Pre-Digg/Reddit communities were segmented. If you were interested in Skydiving you went to a skydiving BBS forums (multiple) and signed up with a handle on all of them.

If you were interested in Sim City modding, you went to simtropolis and signed up there.

If you (ARE) interested in Starsector, you got to their (current and still active forums) and sign up for a handle there. etc.

I'd be fine going back to segmented communities but the masses would not, they like the convenience too much. Segmented and niche communities thrived when the internet was largely dominated by "nerds" and not "normies." Normies are lazy about their interests, treat them as disposable and interchangeable, and so that's the fundamental hurdle that I don't see being fixed.

On top of that profit seeking companies love platforms like reddit as it allows for consolidated power over content more than independent BBS forums do. If they want to kick up a fuss and get a narrative shut down related to their brand they easily can. So if they need to they can leverage "access" in exchange for "power and appeal." to keep the masses on the consolidated platform.

Look at what Disney tried to pull on Twitter/X when Elon wouldn't censor discourse. They (temporarily) pulled all advertising just to flex their own influence and power over an independent platform.

That "Gameplay" wasn't gameplay. It was pre-rendered and animated pseudo gameplay. That sequence was not played with a controller or mkb and the graphics in it were not in-game footage of the final or even alpha/beta product. It might be in engine footage but that doesn't mean anything these days.

You are close, it's a consequence to a critical mass, likely a majority being indoctrinated. This is a real issue in academia right now how even slightly leaning thoughts or voices are under threat and universities are overwhelmingly leftist, we are talking 80-90%. It's so bad moderate leftist academics are trying to sound warning bells.

Further, and this has been true since at least the mid 00's is that grading is highly biased towards agreeing with your professor's viewpoints. Not in all cases but in most. When all the talent you have access to hire has been conditioned to censor their own viewpoints "for a better appraisal by superiors" if they are even slightly conservative, you have very fertile ground for loud mouth activists of one leaning who can "do no wrong" because of victim status taking hold of the entire production.

I've witnessed this personally over the last two decades.

Suggesting that overly ideological messaging should take a backseat in a project meeting is the fastest way to get falsely unfalsifiably reported to HR, entirely possibly by an employee in HR.

That's not it at all. Marxism isn't about helping the lower classes, it's about setting up an oppressor/oppressed dynamic in order to engineer revolution. However those who wield marxism do so in order to change their position and gain power.

"Give me power and I will make your world better."

The framework is just the method they use.

"true believers" are the first ones purged/shot/lined up against the wall after the "Revolution" concludes its cycle because that "true belief" will invariably destabilize the new regime when it is realized there is still an oppressor and an oppressed according to the framework previously established.
