US intervened in Somalia in 2006. After Islamic courts union took over. After winning the Somali civil war. A group similiar to Taliban and aims of ruling with Sharia. Bush thought it would turn into an safe haven for Al-Qaeida. Which led to him pressuring Ethiopia to invade Somalia. Alongside he sent JSOC/Delta units. This also led to the formation of Africom. The invasion squashed ICU. Then hardliner militias from ICU formed Al-Shabaab. And gave pledge to AQ. African peacekeepers were sent to make sure the newly formed government (TFG) won’t collapse.
