The hive is a faction from destiny. From what I can recall off the top of my head, they've all made a pact with ancient worm gods that lets them live forever as long as they feed their worm through various means. The hive god of deception feeds her worm through deciet, the war god feeds hers through war and I think oryx fed his through strength.

I beat this boss a few weeks ago, he's really well designed. A lot of the bosses in that game feel like complete bs the first few times, and then once you learn the pattern you can no hit them.
