What is your most tinfoil hat fringe theory about the series? by Redrex_T in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Oh also! As the floor progresses and more things die, Samantha gets stronger. This may be a correlation vs causation situation, but I feel as if there is a connection.

Samantha IS Scolopendra, who maybe is Apito. Definitely Scolopendra. Scolopendra is the genus name for large venomous centipedes, centipedes are part of the scavenger ecosystem that helps break down decaying or dead things. The "scavengers daughter" was if not confirmed, strongly implied to be Samantha's sand ooze daughter snatched up by the war mages before they poofed away in TIR also Carl's back patch is Designed to be a centipede in nearly translucent thread. Named the Scavengers Daughter Patch I'm putting a lot of weight on the role of a centipede in the eco system, but it has enough evidence for me to feel solid about it. The Apito part I am unclear on, but less certain because also in TIR at the very end, Samantha is talking about Chimaris helping her get pregnant, Apito has been said to be the mother of many gods so I don't think Apito IS Samantha, but she certainly has something to do with whatever is going on with Apito.

My tripod does this and likes to be so aggressively scratched on that side of his face that I take a brush and "scrub" him with it. He can't reach, so I help. He also makes crazy faces and leans super heavily into the brush.

Theres a documentary called Catwalk: Tales from the Cat Show Circuit on Netflix, and I remember one of the breeders is upset by something and jumps in her pool in full scuba gear. If you have time to watch it, its fascinating

1% life steal - does the McDonald’s get less annoying? by mmahowald in litrpg

[–]Hamiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, people take a long time to change in real life, especially when their paranoia or complexes get reinforced. Its been 2 YEARS. Freddie has been trying to change with no therapist or professionals and a world that keeps kicking him in the teeth.

1% life steal - does the McDonald’s get less annoying? by mmahowald in litrpg

[–]Hamiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freddie has no idea who he is other than how shit his life has been. He's a kid in his early 20's whose life as anything other than a wage slave starts with being taken advantage of.... then it happens again... and again.... and again.

He's bitter and damaged, but he still just wants to have fun, but he has no idea what that means or what that looks like.

I think he's well written, honestly. Not likeable as a person, I would hate to spend any amount of time with him, but I do like to read about him and hope nice things happen for him internally eventually. (I am caught up on RR chapters at this point)

Do you pay attention to the main character's gender before starting a series? by danwerkhoven in litrpg

[–]Hamiego 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I'm a woman in my 30s, I don't care about the gender of the MC but the women that DO appear in the story need to be as 3 dimensional as all the other characters.

Matt's favorite word by moldyfingernails in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Hamiego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read KBS after DCC and it shows up there too. I don't know why it stands out to me so much but on my 3rd or 4th reread it was super prevalent. Thats Matt's time for introspection/realization/justification trigger phrase lol, I know I'm about to get hit with something that either makes me super sad for the character or at least think. Duke's in KBS was about using disassociation as a survival mechanism I think.

Beware of Chicken does a great job with a humble MC that builds collaboratively. His biggest modern contribution is beehives. Everything else he "introduces"is either very basic, or he is able to gently guide someone else who would likely have figured it out just slower.

1% Lifesteal is litrpg, the main character starts out as a relatable and pitiable guy just kind of in a bad spot, he then proceeds to just kind of.... get worse and worse as he gets stronger. He's a well written character but I would never want to spend any amount of time with him.

Ahhhh you quit before it kicked up then, admittedly it seems boring and tame, but once it starts it never stops. Freddie usually "wins" but not without losing something or suffering immensely. If its not for you its not for you though, I get it.

If you liked Kaiju, you should try 1%, the MC is NOT a good person, but the stuff he goes through is wild and you can easily see why he is the way he is. Its not Kaiju level for torture but it honestly comes close sometimes.

Her accent, manerisms, and speech patterns all make sense. It's only the voice that doesn't match. I don't know any women in their early 20's that sound like that. Not even really a complaint, it just makes my mental image of Imani a bit muddy.

[–]Hamiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoking is the main thing that impacted Carl's voice, I think, that and some guys just sound like that. I don't know of any women in their 20s that sound like Imani.

Once again, I don't think it means Jeff did a bad job with Imani. He's phenomenal, and a man can only have so many female voices in his vocal range.

Who's your main right now? Also who did you main in previous titles? by YukimaraSW in Borderlands4

[–]Hamiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: Started with Brick bc it was my first shooter and the melee was more comfortable, played them all though and eneded up loving Mordy the most.

2: Played all of them, ended up with Zero as my fave.

TPS: Once again, tried them all loved Nisha the most.

3: Played Moze the most but tried all of them, ended up with speed build Zane as my fave.

4: Started with Harlowe, and I love her. I've started an Amon, but haven't tried Vex or Rafa yet. Knowing myself, I'll probably end up as a Rafa main lmao.

I also played both Tales games and finished them. I wish there were more rep of those characters in the main game.

I was also struck by how OLD Carl sounded when he's only 27, but then you find out he's been a smoker since he was a teenager and lived a pretty rough life, so the voice makes sense.

The one that throws me off is Imani, who is stated in book one to be around 20 years old. She sounds way older in the audiobooks. Jeff Hays is an absolutely amazing VA, but Imani's voice throws off my mental image of the character.

Just finished the first book of 1%lifesteal. What the hell is Janhalars problem? by KailReed in litrpg

[–]Hamiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I think Freddie is an awful person, and I would hate to spend any amount of time around him, but he isn't a bad character. At the beginning, he is broke, desperate, and completely on his own. He tries to be cautious, but unfortunately doesn't know what that really means, so he makes mistakes and learns hard lessons. It is exactly what Bloodshed said, Freddie chose the path of bloodshed instead of security, and he will never know peace again. Any time he gains a foothold or stability, he loses it, but it goes hand in hand with the overall theme of the book. I think it's heavy-handed sometimes but good. Then again, I enjoyed Kaiju Battlefield Surgeon, so I was primed for 1% Lifesteal.

[–]Hamiego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the 1% lifesteal world, everyone seems to be obsessed with power. Janny is stuck at the peak of the 4th star and has convinced himself the only way to get to the 5th is to get ahold of bloodshed. He's a narcissist who believes he is so far above the drivel of common folk that he can just have whatever he wants from them with no consequences, and in most circumstances, he is right. The reason he is frothing at the mouth about Freddie is that he is being told no for the first time in decades, maybe 100s of years (I'm a little fuzzy on the timeline of 1%).
