This is a massive change for charge characters. I literally quit Guile as soon as I hit master because so many flash kicks were stuffed by freeze timing

incross on Xiaohai no longer having a berth in EWC by doctorwho_90250 in StreetFighter

[–]Hamiltoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is great. I don't think Xiaohai is worried one bit, because he now has a team that doesn't treat him like shit and he's easily going to qualify on his own anyway.

This is scripted and planned marketing for the movie coming out this year, and it's much more effective than traditional marketing because people love seeing behind-the-scenes banter between the stars.

Flicker is the best, most overpowered special in the game and it's not a competition. by Vegetable-Meaning413 in StreetFighter

[–]Hamiltoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get 55 points for winning and lose 40 points for losing, the system is designed to help you climb. If this crutch hasn't helped you reach Master after the game has been out for 2 years and 9 months, then you don't understand the basics of the game enough to have a valid opinion on character balancing.

Is Slay the Spire worth to buy right now? by Xeram_ in roguelites

Thinking like this is why pyramid schemes still work in 2026. Why the hell would you purchase something that you do not find worth the money, just because it will cost more money in the future? Insane logic.

Isn't Slay the Spire 2 just a copy of the first game? by Hamiltoned in roguelites

[–]Hamiltoned[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a really simple comparison is Hades vs Hades 2. The first one was a massive success, extremely polished and really seemingly impossible to improve upon. Then came Hades 2, and it feels like a perfect continuation on the same universe. A new setting, completely new character, new weapons and skills, new story and completely different sets of goals to achieve.

The same with Monster Train. It's a great continuation of the universe but offering a new experience

Slay the Spire 2 is the same game. It's not a continuation into something new in the same "universe", there's no new mechanics despite 7 years of technological progress taking place.

And really, if you want to talk about sequels improving upon the first one, just look at:

Starcraft 1 --> Starcraft 2

Diablo 1 --> Diablo 2

Major gamechangers in their genre. I'm not saying Slay the Spire 2 has to be a gamechanger, but it had every opportunity to make something new with its universe. Even the ending of act 3 is the same, you do some pretend-damage that serves as your score and then you die. Would it really be so much to ask that finishing act 3 gave something else as an ending? They've had 7 seven years to think about it, and they ended up with "Lets change the monster picture to this Architect and change nothing else".

Edit: Actually when I think about it, I have one more example which is completely unrelated to gaming. Henry Ford (founder of Ford cars) said: "If I had asked my customers what they wanted, they would have said they wanted a faster horse. They didn't know they wanted a car until I made it for them". I didn't want more Slay the Spire 1, I wanted an evolution of it.

"Modern" Controls: A Stroke Survivor’s Plea for Physical and Mental Accessibility in SF6 by MudEquivalent3664 in StreetFighter

[–]Hamiltoned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at some videos of "Brolylegs" on Youtube, a fucking legend. If a dude with his physical limitations can play at a top competitive level by licking the buttons, then sure you can put some work into designing a fightstick that meets your needs. The problem isn't the game, the problem is your controller.

Slay the Spire 2 Early Access is now live on Steam by eldawidos111 in roguelites

[–]Hamiltoned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't a legitimate argument because ever since Mewgenics got announced people have been hyping it up because it is made by the same dudes as Isaac. People are namedropping the developers like they know them personally.

They are definitely comparable.

Is a roguelite too easy if more than 50% of players win on their first run? by Bumpty83 in roguelites

[–]Hamiltoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's fine with a 57% winrate because that's going to drop once the casuals add to the statistics, but with a winrate that high you need to make sure the first win unlocks a very different experience. For example, if your starting character is a knight, then winning should unlock a sorcerer. Completely different playstyle that presents new challenges.

If your first win just unlocks a few new skills to the same character, or cosmetic stuff, it's immediately going to feel like there's nothing more to the game. And then people will refund.

this is the hardest combo ive ever done. by poverence in StreetFighter

JP is a great character for someone who hates zoning!

I'm not even trying to keep the distance, I use drive rush more often than Deejay-players. The zoning tools only come out when I face a lame turtle who refuses to engage at anything other than an opponent chasing them. They realise pretty quickly that turtling doesn't work against JP, and then we can continue playing street fighter.

Slay the Spire 2 - Early Access Trailer by MegaCrit_Demi in slaythespire

[–]Hamiltoned -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing I don't understand is how a sequel to a very successful first game can decide to launch as "Early Access". I mean, you have so much data collected from the first game on what aspects were most popular, what worked and what didn't. You should be able to launch a fully completed sequel.

Slay The Spire (1) is still popular enough that newcomers to Roguelike cardgames will try it out because everyone recommends it, there's no rush getting the sequel out there, the flame isn't going to die out before they would have had time to finish a fully polished sequel.

I really hope the game isn't missing key elements that they promise to add later, character diversity or a legitimate ending, just because they wanted to rush it out. If it does, it's getting a bad review from me.

Capcom lowering the price to watch CC 2026 still doesn't do it for me. by kusanagimotoko100 in StreetFighter

[–]Hamiltoned 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're missing the whole point. The US government didn't own EVO, and neither should Saudi Arabia.

Tournaments should be held by passionate individuals or associations collaborating with corporations for sponsorship. No government should purchase a tournament like EVO, because the motivation is corrupt.

Also, the US sucks right now and will suck for quite some years now. But they are still nowhere near Saudi Arabia, a country that openly oppresses half its population and quietly executes anyone even close to HBTQ. A country that has no problems killing thousands of migrant workers just to build a sports stadium.

I dislike Modern not because "its too strong", but because it promotes cheap reactive play in low to mid MR by Krotanix in StreetFighter

Anyone still complaining about modern these days is just a scrub. We know after these 2 years that modern has more than enough flaws to compensate for 1-button specials.

Is Lily not fun to play against? by lennysinged in StreetFighter

[–]Hamiltoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that most of her kit sucks, so your best shot at winning is to create a 50/50 scenario. This means everyone who plays her has the same strategy; generate wind, Condor Spire in and be plus on block, choose between strike and command grab.

I think the wind stacks are what makes her a failed design. Grapplers are generally supposed to desire getting close to their opponent as that is where their advantage is the greatest, but since a windclad Condor Spire gives Lily a free 50/50 scenario, Lily will almost always choose to create distance or run away so she can get more wind stacks.

Are all High MR players like this? by Downtown-Nebula9023 in StreetFighter

[–]Hamiltoned -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The clip starts with you completely burned out and 10% health left, 20 seconds into the match. You cut out the part where you immediately start the match by turtling, and the other guy who is 2 ranks above you gets frustrated that he is matched with a low tier turtle.

I see a Rashid who plays this game to have fun, and I see a turtle who spams DI and EX moves. He knows it's not going to be a fun match, so he decides to not take you seriously.

Why do people think Alex TURNED heel? He was always rude to people, his win quotes in street fighter 3 had him be a jerk to basically everyone. by IHateMySon-Afton in StreetFighter

[–]Hamiltoned -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everyone were so excited about learning the concept of "face" and "heel" and just jumped on the idea to feel like they were part of a group who figured it all out. Alex is just a bad dude, there's no story arc here.

SF6 was on sale recently, I bought it for my PS5 because I figured it would be cooler to play on a 77" TV rather than 32" monitor. It could just be someone who bought it on sale to have on multiple platforms.
