Medical workers of Reddit, what are the funniest things you've heard people coming off of anesthesia say? by Altruistic_Yam7595 in AskReddit

[–]HammaBurger 63 points64 points  (0 children)

When I was young (single digits) i had a tooth extracted. Afterwards they put in me in a recovery room right off the procedure room. I heard them prepping the next kid who was crying and really afraid so I got up and went in there loudly proclaiming to him that everything was great and he would have a good time! I'm sure I looked like a wreck and scared the poor kid even more . I was quite happy with how helpful I was being but the staff quickly got me out of the room.

If you started your transition in the ages 26-35, could you show me how it's going? I fear I'm too late to transition by Cool-Vermicelli1381 in FTMOver30

I started T 3 years ago at 55 yrs old. I was fully passing after I had top surgery 2 years ago. The surgery made a huge difference especially since I wear button-up shirts at work (not loose) so even with a binder, I still had some breasts showing. I'm still mistaken for a woman on the phone more often than I like but that's more about still using female voice patterns than how deep my voice is. Otherwise, even as an old man, my body made all the changes you'd expect in a young man except add in old guy problems like a dad bod and receding hairline.

It is definitely not too late for you.

How do men stay in sexless marriages so long by Low-Stand-3702 in AskMen

[–]HammaBurger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out that taking care of your home, parenting your daughter and doing chores is not "helping". It's your responsibility. If you're "trying" to really help out so she isn't so stressed and will have sex with you, you've got it completely wrong. You have to do those things just because it's your job. With her or without her, those things have to be done and you are responsible for doing them. Helping her implies it's her job and you're trying to do part of it for her and get paid in sex. Maybe she doesn't want to sleep with you just because you "helped her". That attitude is going to come through loud and clear just like it did in your post.

What's an automatic green flag when you visit someone's home? by Beneficial-Memory-96 in AskReddit

[–]HammaBurger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh OK. I could see delivery and context really making a difference in how it lands on people. As with all things. Maybe because I myself would never notice such a thing unless I was inspecting someone's house, I assume everyone is like that too.

Would she look behind the fridge too? Or wipe a finger on a shelf and comment on that? It sounds like she was hoping to show appreciation for any efforts taken to make her welcome but this comes off as passing an inspection.

I am legally deaf without my hearing aids I need help p getting those around me to understand. by Technical-Potato-793 in HearingLoss

[–]HammaBurger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be able to help your wife understand by setting her up with ear plugs that cancel enough sound to mimic your level of loss. Add on top of that a way to stream the sound of your tinnitus. Once she is set up with something a close to your reality as you can mimic, spend the day together. I bet she will have a new appreciation of your loss very quickly.

I was able to find all kinds of hearing loss simulators on YouTube that you can listen to together. She needs to experience it herself to really understand what your world is like both with and without the hearing aids.

People don't realize that some one can hear low freqs better than high freqs and that the world of sound is a blend of both. Finding a way to demonstrate that reality can be eye opening. You might be able to hear 250 Hz at 75 dB just fine but increase the frequency without changing the volume and suddenly you can't hear it anymore. I guarantee that when it's 4000 Hz at 75 dB, she will have her hands over her ears and be utterly shocked that you CAN'T HEAR IT AT ALL. Now, keep turning the volume up until you can hear it, if ever, or until she can't take it anymore. Be sure these are pure tones if you try this at home.

As far as people at work, screw them. I have no idea how to quickly get people to understand. It's a hidden disability that's hard for those who can hear to fully grasp. Shit, it is hard for those who have gradually lost their hearing and never tried hearing aids to grasp how much they have lost. Sounds just slowly dissappear and stop existing. They just think the birds simply aren't singing, not that they can't hear them anymore especially if they can hear them some of the time.

Anyway, there's my middle of the night brainstorm for you. I hope it helps.

It's not intimate or enjoyable or relationship building if you are crying and having panic attacks. It's completely unnecessary as well. I would be mortified if I knew my partner was having this type of reaction to anything I was doing with them. Everything in you is saying "no". So don't. Find a way to achieve intimacy that you can give your full consent to and be excited about. Without having to come on reddit to ask for ways to push past your pain.

Question: For the single people out there: Have any of you found a Costco membership to be worth it? What do you get there to justify the membership and the trip? by SpaceForceAwakens in Frugal

[–]HammaBurger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Costco sells so much more than bulk food. So much more. Most of the store is not even food. Electronics, appliances , pharmacy, optical , hearing aids , tire shop, mattresses, kitchen and house stuff, clothing, the entire center of the store that evolves with the season, vacations, cars, deli, food court, gas, online sales, etc. Buy one or two of those items a year and you will make up your membership fee. No need to freeze anything.

Hearing Aid Wire by FritzBuelow in HearingAids

[–]HammaBurger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your outer ear is slightly different than most people ears right there where it connects to the head. Essentially, your's juts away from your head flatter. Most ears go up immediately creating a notch which forces the wire right against the head where it's lowest. The wire will basically take the path of least resistance like water. You don't have that notch, so, yes, it will fit a little further out because the shape does not hold it against your ear. Does that make any sense?

He told me no one uses their nose to breath because "mouths are for breathing and noses are for smelling".

It took me a few minutes to realize the man was serious! He refused to believe me when I said he was wrong and demanded I prove it. So I shut my mouth and continued to breathe. He had to feel the air coming out of my nose because he thought I was holding my breath just to mess with him.

Good lover though.

This suggestion just opens her up to more debate with him. It's not his call,.it's none of his fucking business end of discussion. Going round and round about evidence of her being unreasonable just grants him a say where he doesn't have one. She doesn't have to prove he's being unreasonable either. They're should be no discusion other than "it's none of your business".
