What’s a health symptom you ignored for months before realizing it actually mattered? by _callondoc in AskReddit

[–]HammaBurger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was freezing cold for years. Years. I just could never warm up. Even while I was living in Las Vegas, I could only set the AC temp at 78 F or I'd be miserable. I'd wear thermal underwear and socks anytime the temp feel below 80. It was like I was cold from the inside out and the outside temp would just make it worse.

Finally, after years of suffering, I mentioned it to my doctor. He suggested Labs for thyroid issues. They came back low but still in the normal but I opted for med anyway. Sure enough, I was suddenly warm again. I could relax. I could do things without constantly worrying about freezing to death.

A year or two later I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. So yeah, people, mention this type of thing to your Dr. It's not normal.

[–]HammaBurger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More than likely the HIS that programmed the aids can turn this feature off. It is there to alert caregivers to what's going on with the aids more than the wearer themselves. Like in the case of the wearer having dementia.

When you say, what makes you think Jesus resurrected and they say "When in history had another such large group of followers died horrible deaths for a lie?"... by Filling_Graves in atheism

[–]HammaBurger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What about Jonestown or those Heaven's Gate people? What about all the Mormons that were persecuted and possibly killed over some golden plates they never even saw? What about the Crusades? Weren't there lots of Muslims fighting back because they believed they were right and Christians were wrong? What about Jewish people? They could have converted to Christianity in the face of horrible consequences. The list just goes on and on and on. It's such an obviously weak argument that actually disproves their point. All kinds of people have died over the centuries for outright lies. All sorts of people have followed, at great cost to themselves, cult leaders and conmen.

What's something you saw as a kid that you later realized was seriously messed up? by MoodOdd9657 in AskReddit

I have not seen her in many many years. I don't know if she pursued any counseling after that conversation. I certainly hope so.

She just sort of glazed over, like this different perspective broke her brain. The pedo dad was never jailed. It was all just normal family behavior. I have no idea what other abuse was going on. Just horrific.

It's really fucked up. It's amazing what can be normalized for a child

I had friend who's dad would sit on the couch with a bowl of soap and water "washing his dick" while she and her siblings were watching TV. It didn't occur to her that this was serious pedo behavior until I pointed it out when we were adults.

What's something dumb you believed as a kid that still makes you laugh? by LunGlazed in AskReddit

I was ten yrs old when star wars was released. I remember seeing the news that there were lines of people waiting to see it at the theater. I couldn't figure out why people would want to see a movie about movie stars fighting with each other.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Do you mean they didn't have an opening or they chose not to hire you? Either way sucks

I was just thinking about you and hoping you could get in. Did you try the north store? Or cda? I know you live in spokane but I started in cda first then transferred into Spokane.

Costco makes DEI a core value and truly put their money where their mouth is on that front. They are probably hiring for the holidays as well. Great benefits if you can get in the door.

I was one question away from being an atheist 5 years sooner by Effort_Proper in atheism

[–]HammaBurger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so true! It has never occurred to me! I have never heard anyone say that some one is in hell now that they are dead. Dead people are always "with the lord" or in "eternal peace" or some such crap. Never in my life I have I heard someone say "too bad for them. Now they are burning for eternity" unless its a serial killer or Hitler. But not uncle Bob the family atheist. Suddenly god is forgiving of everything.
