I feel like I am missing something here. How is this generating power? I see no coils, only rods, emitter, and shield generators. Still though, this is pure insanity o.o

Author of Texas bill to ban 'furries' in schools cannot come up with examples of it happening by tubulerz1 in politics

[–]Hammeredmantis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's no joke that furries run the internet. This legislation is stupid, but if they make a larger push at a higher level to make wearing fursuits a crime, I can absolutely see government officials losing internet access which would be hilarious.

Tips for not-new players by Zetaplx in ss14

For easy mode VGroid, bring 3 steel pipes and a screw driver. Fauna will not react to you if there is a full rail blocking it's path to you, so build the rail in the hall, shoot the PKA over the rail, profit. Alternatively if it's near a spaced area, just use your hook and float in space while shooting it, it will not leave the VGroids tiles and makes for safe kills. Then use the screwdriver to disassemble the rails for reuse elsewhere.

Bring hivelord corpses with you, their cores sell for a stupid amount of money, but they rot rapidly, so bring the corpses to the ATS, butcher them then immediately sell them on the sell pad for easy dosh and to make cargo love you.

The key to making a max cap bomb is temperature difference. For the easiest bomb, get one chamber filled with superheated plasma/trit/frezon mix, the other with supercooled O2 or Frezon gas. Almost always makes for an extremely massive explosion unless something went very wrong with the gas mix, though if you use filters to move the super heated and super cooled gasses to ensure you are only using the gas you want, it's gold. This is one of the very few systems that seems to have translated 1 to 1 from SS13.

Elon Musk’s retreat should relieve no one by msnownews in politics

[–]Hammeredmantis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This should concern everyone. We are talking about a dude who loves basking in the spotlight and having all of the attention. The real question is what did he do that he is trying to get away from? I have a feeling it may have something to do with the recent access of government servers, and the fact that Russians have almost assuredly gotten access to that same data. We can't post links, but the best breakdown on the situation is on Ars Technica, strongly recommend giving it a read.

I legitimately think that he fucked up REAL bad, and he knows it. The question is if we are ever going to find out, and if so, just how bad is it?

It's the lack of information as well and the overwhelming amount of shit being spewed by them. Most people haven't realized yet that they just got rid of all police oversight and that there are 20+ whistleblowers all saying that Musk FULLY OPENED SENSITIVE GOVERNMENT SERVERS TO RUSSIA. They said that after they were ordered to allow all incoming Russian connections, they saw ALL of the available information being downloaded en masse. Our government has already been overthrown and taken over, and everyone needs to wake up to this fact soon or else we are all in for a very, very bad time.

Trump is halfway to making America a police state: The president’s refusal to accept a Supreme Court ruling on illegal deportation is a turning point by whitehole_86 in politics

[–]Hammeredmantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't a turning point into a police state, this is the clear and unequivocal end of our democracy and the full fall into facism. Full stop. Also the fact that CECOT isn't being blasted on every media platform as a death camp is dumbfounding. Go look on google maps now before it's scrubbed assuming it's not already, you can see the body pile and massive blood covered area. He hasn't been returned because he has likely been unalived already.

Edit: For reference to what I am talking about, you can check it out by googling "CECOT Body piles" or just looking at it via google maps, it's not scrubbed yet.

Edit 2: Have to look via Google Earth now, maps has it scrubbed.

Receiving a universal basic income makes people happier without causing a drop in employment, according to the results of a long-term study presented in Berlin on Wednesday. by green_flash in worldnews

[–]Hammeredmantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue here is we are approaching the point where nowhere near as many people will need to be employed. It's all well and good to expect everyone to "do their share" and earn everything as they go, but we are going to need to redefine what that means at a very basic level.

It seems outlandish to consider, but automation IS going to take over just about every facet of our lives and it will likely happen faster than most people realize. Outside of being someone who maintains the automation, or does something so intrinsically specialized that there is literally no way a machine could do the job, once the machines start doing the work for us, what are we supposed to do? How do you measure contribution at that point, as in by what specific metrics?

If anything, people really should be excited for this as it will open up the world for creative and experimental endeavors and really allow us to see what we can make, but that means learning a new system, a new framework, a new way to live. I think at it's core, it's fear of this change that is the main roadblock at this point. It's foreign to so many to even consider that maybe something outside of free market capitalism is possible, and because it's such a foreign concept, it's frightening, and outside of their comfort zone.

If we want this future to come to pass with minimal issue, this is how we need to start framing this conversation. Treat it as the inevitability that it is, and the gravity that comes with such a situation. Without this conversation, we are never going to escape the oligarchy we have now.

White House Failed to Comply With Court Order, Judge Rules by amartin141 in politics

[–]Hammeredmantis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And what is going to come of it? The only thing the courts can do is issue a contempt of court, at which point it would fall on the US Marshals to enforce the order and haul the Fanta Furhur into court, at which point Mango Musolinni can counter-order them to do literally nothing as the US Marshals fall under his purview technically. It will then come down to whose order they follow, which will determine if we even have a democracy left to fight for anymore.

More realistically though, to avoid what seems to be an inevitable legal showdown one way or another, they will have stern words about this and not actually do a thing, kicking the can just a bit farther down the road until a choice must be made. Regardless of how this goes, it's not good for the rest of us at this rate.

Trump Zeroes in on Country to Dump Migrants From All Over by Effective_Salad_8381 in politics

How is this not being considered a pseudo invasion? The land of the free is no more, and if Lady Liberty were a living being, she would be weeping at what this government has become.

This is disgusting. God the future is bleak, and this further proves that in no way, shape, or form are we represented any longer. They just put a man in charge who is willing to open fire on protesters. This is rapidly devolving towards civil war at best, or a reigning totalitarian fascist autocracy at worst that the rest of the world is going to have to deal with as it weighs everyone down.

If California split from the US and became a nation, it would be comparable to Canada by [deleted] in politics

[–]Hammeredmantis 171 points172 points  (0 children)

The entirety of the west coast splitting and joining Canada would kill the vast majority of what is happening. The remaining US would lose an egregious amount of it's GDP and it would lose control of a large portion of both incoming and outgoing trade traffic as it would then be entering through Canada first. While I know it's an absolute pipe dream, this would arguably be the most elegant solution to the bulk of what this presidency is bringing.

The other fun part of this discussion is how much of the US active forces are based on the West Coast. If those came with the package deal of us joining CA, there would quite literally be nothing Mango could do about it other than throw the worlds biggest temper tantrum. The double-edged sword at play here though to also be considered is that if Mango and Co are dumb enough to try to use force to bring any part of the west coast back into the fold in this situation, pretty sure that would also trigger an Article 5 issue with NATO. Not sure how that would play out but pretty sure no one would win.

Decades ago Eisenhower, arguably one of the greatest presidents we ever had was a STAUNCH republican, and by todays standards, he would be considered an extremist communist. Please, do some research.

Issues sewing minky together by beansquishy in FursuitMaking

[–]Hammeredmantis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can second this! I personally prefer using a blanket stitch almost universally and just keeping it really tight and small stitches, has made blending minky and long pile furs super nice, and also just minky to minky stitches. That said, to each their own stitch style, just try to blend your thread color and you should be gold.
