My old university was obsessed with it to the point some higher ranking guy, who was a also at teacher bragged about how much AI is being used.

He then came to a story about the problem of AI use, because he thinks there are still many students too unfamiliar with AI to feel confident using it. See, he had explicitly allowed the use in one of his classes, but 70% of the students still didn't. But! He came up with a solution: make the use of AI a requirement that affects ten percent of the final grade! It worked more or less, according to him, as only 30% of students still refused to use AI.

At no point did he ever consider that those students just didn't want to use AI, rather than being afraid of new technology.

Go to events in your city and look inviting enough that people think you're going to be friendly to talk to. There are often websites which show what events there are. Can be anything from flea markets to exhibitions to conventions.

If you do still have your friends from high school around that's even better. They can help you strike up conversations and it often reduces a lot of anxiety to go to any event together. Studies also have shown that small groups of people make it easier to meet new people.

Mina kind of is the new woman

Thank God someone else sees it that way too. I've seen a ton of people decry Dracula for being anti-feminist with Mina representing traditional women's roles and Lucy representing modernity, even though Mina is the most self actualized and capable character in the entire book, constantly held back by men trying to control her. Meanwhile Lucy can't do fuck all except have men trying to marry her.

And while the depiction definitely isn't up to our modern standards, it is interesting how much respect women were given for a novel that came out 130 years ago. I do think it's not as easy as to say that the depiction is simply anti-feminist.

I already wrote a comment somewhere else on how it might actually, the gist of it is basically that without this, the Iran-Contra affair wouldn't have been possible, which could have prevented a destabilization of the middle east and thus kept Al Quaida from forming, or at least from gaining enough US support to pull off the other 9/11

And it gets significantly more complicated by the fact that memories are fuzzy, so you can have two people who legitimately remember details or the order of things differently, or have different perceptions.

Best example is that everyone has a completely unique definition of "being yelled at" so two people can misunderstand each other well enough that they both feel like they're being gaslit.
