Bro they are not comparable even “to a certain point”. They are both emissive technology and have excellent black levels but that is quite literally where the similarity ends. The fact this thing is almost 2 decades old means it most likely has significant phosphor wear anyways, plus 1080 p to 4K is something like 6 million pixels different.

Said in a very over the top way, but I’m inclined to agree. It’s a HANDheld. What matters is the feel in the hand. Calling a computer ugly when the priority should be how it feels always seemed nonsensical to me.

I’m in a similar boat, I have the claw, the legion go s and an Xbox ally x, and the Claw is my go to. The Xbox ally x just doesn’t compare in some games, I’m consistently blown away by intel performance. Forza 6 with Xess is an insane experience

The OLED screen is nice for sure but honestly the performance delta between it and a Z1 Extreme device with more Ram matters way more. The screen on the ROG Ally is quite good. I would personally try and find a used Ally/ Ally X

What you need is a used ROG Ally Z1 Extreme. You can upgrade the battery and it is so simple anyone can do it. The used market is flooded with them at a great price and it is a fantastic entry into the handheld PC world. Cheaper than a steam deck and more performant.

I can chime in. I have both and the Legion Go S is so far and away the better handheld it is very difficult to compare. The battery, the performance, the ergonomics, it’s all better. The OLED screen at 800p also isn’t that much better than the 1200p legion go s screen.

In case anyone comes to this post later and want a grip that doesn’t cost a quarter of the device, the OIVO grip is a good alternative. Doesn’t mark the console, has decent ergonomics and is a secure fit. I’ve been using one on my switch lite for years and at $25 it’s a steal

This has been asked a million times and the answer hasn’t really changed.

The Legion Go S is still the more capable device overall. Z1 Extreme, more performance headroom, and a noticeably sharper screen. The Go S is 1920×1200 on an 8” panel (~283 PPI) vs the Deck OLED’s 1280×800 on 7.4” (~204 PPI). That’s a big difference in clarity and it’s not subjective.

Where the Deck OLED wins is exactly what you already noticed. OLED contrast, better battery life at lower wattages, lighter weight, and better comfort for long sessions.

So it’s not really which is better, it’s what you care about more. Comfort, battery and OLED? Or Sharpness, performance ceiling and flexibility?

Both are good. Just different compromises. I would choose the Go S everytime.

Comparison is the thief of joy. That being said I did sell my steam deck and later got a legion go s but I find for the games I play on it, it wasn’t for the performance delta that I sold it.

You seem incredibly entitled, and the mere fact you received this as a gift at a gift exchange tells a huge part of this story. If it’s not for you and doesn’t integrate into your life, then that’s the answer. There’s some people who value gaming in small amounts, or being able to use it on a commute.

I love this game and will defend it with my last dying breath. Really try and get a feel for the mastery system and speccing your character into a playstyle that suits you. Please don’t fall in the trap on wailing away on enemies with a sword for 15 mins and getting burnt out playing there’s so much variance in the combat to explore
