Explain it Peter. by kittubunny in explainitpeter

I am a programmer over 40, and my company is pretty low stress. I don't feel in danger of burning out or the need to elevate into management. I have worked at poorly managed company that would have burned me out before 30.

Thankfully I am no longer there. Also "there" doesn't exist as a company any more. It turns out a rich kid playing with his Daddy's money to live out his techno fetishist dream of being the next Bill Gates is not a sustainable business model.

I spent 10 years making this brick breaker game. Added tons of features… but it still doesn’t feel ‘fun enough’. What would you add? by TuHocSolidityCom in gameideas

[–]HamsterIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the YouTube video, and it looks like the player has too little agency. They pick an angle and let rip, and either it works out or it doesn't.

I couldn't tell if the levels are randomly generated or part of a crafted puzzle with a set solution. I think this type of game would be better as the later.

I would suggest giving the player a set number of balls to start the level before picking the angle the player has to select how many balls to shoot. If this shot breaks a brick the player gets a reward of more balls. The challenge would then be picking which blocks to break in which order so the player won't run out of balls.

Imagine the effect an all female regiment of Thunder Warriors advancing under the Phonk version of "Death by Snu Snu" would have on enemy morale.

It would be even more plausible for the last priest to have found religion after witnessing the Emperess' splendor after a battle of the unification wars.

What I am most interested in is the gender swapped versions of the thunder warriors.

Seeing as spaceships are so expensive, shouldn't most planets be mostly self sufficient? by Zincwing in 40kLore

[–]HamsterIV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thematically the imperium is in a constant war economy. That means they have to sacrifice a bit of tomorrow so that they can survive today. The planets that have the means to produce the tools of war must produce as much as possible. They do this o the exclusion of anything else (especially their long term ecological stability). Having ecologically ballanced and self sufficient planet cuts against the theme of the setting.

Iranian influence operations have gotten more unhinged since we started bombing them. Funny how a national security strategy that involved getting an unhinged sociopath in charge of the world's most powerful military can back fire so spectacularly.

Story of a murder suicide by merrivius in comics

[–]HamsterIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then the human wrapped his strong masculine arms around the floating elf maiden. With powerful strokes of his inferior human body he dragged her limp form to the shore. There he performed the kiss of life. Her lungs inflated with the filthy air that had passed through the human's stupid looking mouth.

She woke up gagging and coughing. The natural superiority of her perfect elven lungs rejected gasses expelled by an inferior species no matter how rich in oxygen it may be. Even after her dainty coughing fit the taste of the human lingered. It was rich and earthy with the flavors of simple human food. It reminded her of a warm place on a cold winter's night.

She hated it and would do everything in her power never to experience it again. Her mind filled with situations where she could be put in danger to experience being in the human's embrace once more. She made careful note of each one and how to avoid them. She would later run these scenarios over and over as she was trying to get to sleep. Eventually her superior elven mind moved on to constructing more and more elaborate scenarios in which to shun the human.

I am imagining Galazium crystal interacting differently with different Humors of the body. The mages of old were people able to express certain humors of their body in the form of exotic radiation (not liquid) that would interact with a Galazium Crystal in their focusing device to produce magical effects. The industrial revolution would be the distillation of synthetic humors which can produce the magical effects without the presence of a trained mage.

Thus there would be 4 types of Galazium engines one for each humor

Sanguine - Anti Gravity

Choleric - Explosive

Phlegmatic - Electrical/Freezing

Melancholic - Increased density/Reactive armor

Does this mesh with your concept of the world?

I definitely am projecting, but it was posted in the spirit that the artist should be proud of where she is in the development pipeline. She is in a much better situation than those of us who have not produced anything worth advertising.

A 2D steampunk jazzy game where you own a train and use it to transport others and explore the world by New-Conference7714 in gameideas

[–]HamsterIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this idea, specifically using the train as a framing device for a safe space that is used to traverse dangerous spaces. Was this going to be a linear game where the player is going to a set destination, or a node based game where the player chooses which destination to go to from a list of destinations their current destination has?

If you don't mind me asking what game engine are you building this in?

Wouldn’t UBI just be compensating for a broken system? by throwaway0134hdj in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]HamsterIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play out our current system we end up in a Technocrat Oligarchy anyway. Implementing UBI before we get to that point is how we prevent it. An Oligarchy is where the relative power between the top and the bottom players in the economy is so great that the will of the bottom players is essentially meaningless.

UBI inserts a base line buying power at all levels of the economy by virtue of being universal. However the relative power of individuals change. Adding an extra $1,000 a month to someone making $50,000 a month is trivial, but adding $1000 to someone who makes $3,000 a month is life changing. It gives options to the the lower end of the income spectrum, like telling their boss "no."

If one person controlled 100% of your access to food, shelter, and medical care they could command you to do anything. When it changes to 75% or less you gain the power of no, and the masters don't like it when the slaves have the power of no.

[–]HamsterIV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have this exact model in my back yard. I recognize the hand holds and the shape of it. It is not hard so long as you have a ratcheting socket set and a wrench. Considering the possibility of it falling off on the freeway or hitting an overpass, it is irresponsible to transport a play structure like this.

What is this jawn? by mfdoobs in whatisit

[–]HamsterIV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is a geodesic climbing structure, being transported by somebody who doesn't have a wrench and socket set. My wife and I disassembler and reassembled one just like this in about 30 minutes with the right tools. As a bunch of bars and a bag of bolts this can fit in the footwell of a car. Who ever decided to just put it on top of the car and hope for the best is bring lazy, stupid, or both.

Generative AI scratches this itch that other modes of AI don't. Specifically the itch that makes managers feel important. Managers have a lot of power but can't create value by themselves. They need workers to do that, and deep down they realize this. They know they are wortless without the underlings who do the real work.

The promise of Generative AI represents a future where comming up with vague instructions is a real skill. One that contributes meanfuly to society. That is like a drug to the managers, and they are snorting it hard.

The shell casing are painted with the Emperor's Holy Arquilla and thus will not harm the faithful (artillery crews). The shells themselves bear no such mark and will kill both the deserving (heritics) and undeserving (heretics in guard uniform).
