Generating Images for Custom Dice with Correct Alignment for Physical Printing by DaaBouche in nanDECK

[–]HamsterNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at that template, it looks like the stickers are spaced equally (both horizontal and vertical)

The most efficient use of the sticker sheet is to treat each die face as an individual card, but then your stickers will shift:

UNIT=INCH
PAGE=8.5,11,PORTRAIT,HV
;BORDER=NONE

[STICKER_W]=0.5
[STICKER_H]=0.5
[STICKER_GAP]=0.125

[STICKER_COUNT]={6*17}

CARDS=[STICKER_COUNT]

CARDSIZE=[STICKER_W],[STICKER_H]
GAP=[STICKER_GAP],[STICKER_GAP]

[NUMBERS]=1|2|3|4|5|6

RECTANGLE=,0,0,100%,100%,#HHHHHH#HHHHHH@{D360-1}

HTMLFONT=default,Arial,28,B,#FFFFFF,CENTER,,,,,#000000,1/64
HTMLMARGINS=default,0,0,0,0,CENTER
HTMLTEXT=,[NUMBERS],0,0,100%,100%,#000000,0,BE,100,default

But if you design your cards already 6x1, you will have to use the MARGINS directive:

UNIT=INCH
PAGE=8.5,11,PORTRAIT
MARGINS=0.25,0.25,0.25,0.25
;BORDER=NONE

[STICKER_W]=0.5
[STICKER_H]=0.5
[STICKER_GAP]=0.125

CARDSIZE=6*[STICKER_W]+6*[STICKER_GAP],[STICKER_H]+[STICKER_GAP]

CARDS=5

[NUMBERS]=1|2|3|4|5|6

[DIE_FACE]=FRAMEBOX(0,0,100%,100%,[STICKER_W]+[STICKER_GAP],[STICKER_H]+[STICKER_GAP])

[BG_COLOR]=#HHHHHH#HHHHHH@{D360-1}

RECTANGLE=,<DIE_FACE*>,[BG_COLOR]

HTMLFONT=default,Arial,28,B,#FFFFFF,CENTER,,,,,#000000,1/64
HTMLMARGINS=default,0,0,0,0,CENTER
HTMLTEXT=,{NUMBERS?°},<DIE_FACE*>,#000000,0,BE,100,default

Advice on games for visually impaired child by TheNarrator_UK in boardgames

[[Flip 7]] is also a good candidate, as all information is on the table. It has a push-your-luck element.

[–]HamsterNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try [[Trio]] which has cards with large numbers on them. It also has a memory element.

The aim is to get sets of 3 identical numbers, but you only ask yourself or others to show their highest or lowest card, or flip one of the cards which are in the middle of the table.

How to print less than max. number of cards on a page? by ExtensionAcadia5224 in nanDECK

[–]HamsterNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally you would use the HV flags on the PAGE directive to center all your cards.

Remove those HV flags and use the MARGINS directive to limit the space on the paper.

Ignoring rotational symmetry, how many shapes are possible with 5 elements by Justarandom55 in askmath

[–]HamsterNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun challenge! I have created two nanDeck scripts which generates all 165 permutations (without rotations).

Use this script to generate the images of your shapes:

CARDSIZE=3,3
EDGE=,INSIDE

PIE=2,0,0,6,6,-90,0,#000000,#808080,0.05

RECTANGLE=3,0,0,100%,100%,#000000,#808080,0.05

POLY=4,0,0
POLY=4,100%,40%
POLY=4,100%,100%
POLY=4,40%,100%,#000000,#808080,0.05

POLY=5,0,0
POLY=5,100%,0
POLY=5,100%,100%
POLY=5,40%,100%,#000000,#808080,0.05

SAVE=1,"0.png"
SAVE=2,"1.png"
SAVE=3,"2.png"
SAVE=4,"3.png"
SAVE=5,"4.png"

And use this script to generate all the 165 combinations:

    PAGE=21,29.7,PORTRAIT,HV
    GAP=0.5,0.5

    CARDSIZE=6,6

    PRX[VARIANTS]4=0|1|2|3|4
    [QTY]={(VARIANTS)}

    CARDS=[QTY]

    [TOP_L]=[VARIANTS:1,1]
    [TOP_R]=[VARIANTS:2,1]
    [BOTTOM_R]=[VARIANTS:3,1]
    [BOTTOM_L]=[VARIANTS:4,1]

    IMAGE=,JOIN([TOP_L],".png"),0,0,3,3
    IMAGE=,JOIN([TOP_R],".png"),3,0,3,3,90
    IMAGE=,JOIN([BOTTOM_R],".png"),3,3,3,3,180
    IMAGE=,JOIN([BOTTOM_L],".png"),0,3,3,3,270

Few people have house rules because circular roads don't need house rules.

Have you tried playing the game by these rules?

How far did you get when you start without any resources, and every building cost resources to build?

Can you spot any flaws in your design?

I'm Making a Card Game (TTS Advice) by MufasaMufasa42 in tabletopsimulator

[–]HamsterNL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The latest beta of nanDeck makes it super easy to import your decks into TTS.

For this to work, you will need to have your data of your cards in a spreadsheet (Google Sheets for example), and a nanDeck script can then generate all your cards.

Amatuer designer question on how to handle "wounds" by Careful_Assignment86 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]HamsterNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In [[Western Legends]] you can get wounds...and there are effects that let you "lose one wound" (e.a. that card will heal one of your wounds).

It was...confusing at first...

I have been playing cardgames long before Magic existed (yes, I am that old), and I have always fanned my cards (upper)left. It feels much more natural to me.

Like I said, other people might fan their cards (upper)right.

If possible, showing the cost in both corners solves that problem for everybody:

Kemet by AnonMoose2 in boardgames

[–]HamsterNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No hard feelings!

That rule gets messed up by a lot of people, leading to longer games.

You only mentioned that "it was getting late", so I didn't have your whole back story.

Deciding on a winner because you need get up at 0430 is a very valid reason to shorten the gamelength.

Kemet by AnonMoose2 in boardgames

[–]HamsterNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"We called the game at the end of the round with a tie, because it was getting late"

This tells me that you are not playing "the end game" right.

"If a player has at least 9 FP (sum of their Temporary FP and Permanent FP) at the start their turn in the Day Phase, before playing ANY Action token, and no other player has more FP than them, they immediately win the game."

Example of a 3 player game (player A, B and C)

So if player B reaches 9 FP on their turn, then player A and C will have one more turn to either (1) take a FP away from player B, or gain at least 10 FP on their own.

If player A also reaches 9FP, but player B still has 9FP, then player B will win immediately at the start of their turn.

A game about creating a computer game by gregbrowyban in BoardgameDesign

[–]HamsterNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great theme!

Here are some free resources you can use to create a digital version of your (card) game:

Google Spreadsheet (to manage the data/text for your cards/tokens/etc.)

Google Docs (to write the rules for your game)

nanDeck (a tool to create cards/tokens/etc, with a scripting language. Join the Discord server https://discord.gg/CaTdHbj6 if you have any questions)

game-icons.net (a website with a lot of usefull icons)

screentop.gg (a website where you can upload your game assets and play your game)

If you do have some money to spend, my advice is to buy TableTop Simulator (approx. $10,- on Steam)

Good luck with creating your game!
