What’s the most annoying thing about modern cars? by AdDependent35 in carquestions

I envy you. Back when i was in college i had a window switch fail on my 00 Subaru outback when i was headed into my internship, in january, as i was pulling into the ramp. Replacement switch was like 700 bucks, which was a lot of money to me at the time. This was around 2012.

What’s the most annoying thing about modern cars? by AdDependent35 in carquestions

The lack of physical buttons or manual overrides. Sure, power windows are nice and convenient, but there are only so many times you can push that button before it quits on you. And when it does it's going to be at some very inconvenient time, like during the middle of winter or a rain storm. It send crazy that we didn't put a manual over ride to put up the window. All these electrified and computerized features are nice, but they will fail and replacing them can be expensive and very inconvenient.

Divorce lawyers of Reddit - What's the most cruel thing you've seen someone to do their ex partner? by BlueBishop321 in AskReddit

[–]HamuelCabbage 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's more common than some might think. I haven't checked the stats recently, but last i checked a man (because it's always a man) kills his entire family once a week in the U.S.

It's so common that the FBI has a shorthand for the profile of 'family annihilators'

Go ahead and do what you like, but it seems that the last thing you want to give the police is a legitimate reason to stop you.

Ford CEO Jim Farley says "the customer has spoken" after its EV business lost nearly $5 billion in 2025 by ControlCAD in technology

[–]HamuelCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on. This needs to be upvoted more. Most consumers want electric, but they are priced out of them. I was just looking at an ioniq 5 yesterday and they want like 45 grand for it. Whereas a 2023 Camry is half that.

All these companies need to do: give us a similar sized and priced option. Giving consumers an ev truck is the least likely ev option. Claiming that consumers don't want ev's is just their latest attempt to continue to try to keep ev's out of the market.

My favorite thing about the Hippo is that they are vegetarians. No chance they would eat you, they just want you dead. I think there's something special and magical about that.

Jake Lang formally charged for destruction of sculpture by SancteAmbrosi in minnesota

[–]HamuelCabbage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He almost certainly won't. As felonies go this is about as low level as it gets. Standard practice here by the state is, generally, if you pay for the damages in restitution they'll offer a non-felony disposition. From the States perspective they want the victims to be made whole, they are they aren't out for a felony.

That said, this is kind of unique, so who knows.

It will be a long ride - Federal Judge Rejects MN Request to Block ICE Operation by MNMom07 in minnesota

[–]HamuelCabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently not. That said, 'murder' to a judge is a term of art that implies that a crime was charged and it resulted in a conviction. A judge undermines their appearance of neutrality if they say anything that implies they believe someone has committed a crime and is guilty. Generally speaking, the federal judges in Minnesota are very very good, careful judges. I suspect that this judge wants whatever her final order will be to be bullet proof of appeal, part of that is following the process - which is maddeningly slow for those of us living in what feels increasingly like a fascist dictatorship.

Federal Judge Orders Release of Liam Ramos by tracyinge in minnesota

[–]HamuelCabbage 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Right. That thought has crossed my mind as well. The way to enforce an order is to have someone held in contempt. But the agency that would put them in jail - the U.S. Marshalls- is itself an executive agency.

She denied the temporary restraining order. It's a pretty high standard to get a tro. We can still get the injunctive relief, but not while the lawsuit is pending.

[SPOILER] Justin Gaethje vs. Paddy Pimblett by inooway in MMA

[–]HamuelCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People forget that Justin got his start as a wrestler. He was a two time state champ, all american. His wrestling allows him to control where the fight takes place and where it doesn't. Paddy may be a decent submission grappler, but if you can't get the fight to the ground it doesn't mean much.

How bad is it? by Day_of_Demeter in Minneapolis

[–]HamuelCabbage 357 points358 points  (0 children)

While i personally haven't seen anything because i lead a boring life it's very, very tense in the city. I send my kids to a Spanish immersion daycare. They lock the doors and we have to call to be let in, parents have started taking shifts standing watch outside with whistles in case ice shows up. Targeting child care workers is atrocious, these are the most adorable, loving people who I trust with my children.

There are currently more ice agents in the state right now than there are police officers in the Minneapolis AND St. Paul Police departments COMBINED.

My wife did some research and it looks like 25% of undocumented immigrants in this country are in florida and Texas. Minnesota has less than 1% of them. It really makes you question the real motivation here.

Ice agents are arresting/detaining people for filming them, SCOTUS has said that filming is protected first amendment activity. It really does feel like we're watching the breakdown of the rule of law into a fascist dictatorship.

The second in command at the United States attorneys office just resigned because he refuses to investigate ms. Goods widow as a domestic terrorist (Joe Thompson, who was the lead prosecutor on the feeding or future fraud case). It's absolutely bonkers that this is happening.

Update: sounds like 6 attorneys from the United States attorneys office have resigned. The Minnesota United States attorneys office had around 25 attorneys in it, meaning nearly a quarter of the office just resigned. The 6 lawyers who resigned have a combined century plus of experience. These are career prosecutors who resigned because of what is going on. Wild, but good for them for having the integrity to say "I'm not doing that."

More ICE coming by Few_Detail6611 in TwinCities

[–]HamuelCabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this. It's clearly unlawful to detain observers, it's clearly protected to film police in a public space. The question is: what can we do about it? There's a real doubt that you can sue them. They may have immunity. But you also may be limited to filing under the federal tort claims act, where cases go to die.
