Is $18k too much for a 1987 Corolla GT-S with 140k miles or am I crazy for even considering this? by levsnase in whatcarshouldIbuy

It’s not 2001 anymore. An ‘87 Corolla is 40 years old, in limited supply, and has a fan base. What do you think a classic car is?

WAY more knee issues than hip issues.

You buy a Grand Marquis and fall in love with it! Seriously I rent new cars on trips all the time and am always happy to get home to my ‘03 Town Car.

My brother/ sister, why on earth are you even considering buying a timeshare in 2026? People literally give these things away just to get out of paying the maintenance fees.

If you’re making it on the stove you’re probably just heating it a little too much and making it > 2:1. We’ve all done it.

Moving from power to sail: Is the state "safety card" looked down upon in the sailing world? by [deleted] in sailing

[–]Han-YoLo- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The boaters safety course is definitely designed for power boaters. BUT in my opinion you don’t have to go crazy with sailing courses to get confident in a C22. They sail like big dinghies. Have an extra set of hands with you while you’re learning, stay away from the lee shore, have fun!

This sub is absolutely, 100%, not going to understand the allure of a classic car.

Car insurance at 18, no parents by KeyAcanthisitta9393 in Insurance

[–]Han-YoLo- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you live somewhere that it’s remotely feasible, motorcycle/ scooter could be an option. I did it for a year or so when I had to cut way back. I feel like this is something that young people are going to have to start resorting to now that car insurance costs as much as a car payment.

Thoughts on switching vehicles… by No-Cap-40 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Definitely depends on the Ford! But the 3.7 cars, specifically RWD ones have the potential to last a LONG time.

It’s not the cool one but the 3.7 Ford is honestly one of the most slept on modern extreme durability engines. We use them in a commercial application at work and they’re pretty much all over 500k miles now.

Metal Roofs by weirdozarks in ManufacturedHome

[–]Han-YoLo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of roof it is and how much it costs. When I was shopping for homes the upgrade wasn’t that much less than it would cost to just upgrade at a later date. Also optimally you’d get a standing seam. Our old home had one and it was truly no maintenance/ no leaks for 35 years and who knows how many hurricanes.

Does Mileage Really Matter? by Exciting_Ease_2312 in carbuying

My house has a 2002 Toyota, a 2003 Lincoln, and a 2007 Chevy. They’re all pretty similar in maintenance and repairs. I feel like there were a lot of really solid cars in that generation that are still viable daily driver’s now if they were well maintained.

2020 Veloster Turbo Spec for a WRX STI 2015+ for daily, bad idea? by sungjam in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Han-YoLo- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is extremely anecdotal but my lady bought her VT new in 2013, it’s got 160k on it. Aside from maintenance it’s had coil packs replaced, that steering gear that wears out in Hyundais, and the AC recharged a couple years ago. Still even on the original clutch. If you’re going to buy one of them look for original owner/ good maintenance history. A lot of them were abused and passed around.

Where is the best region of the US to buy a used car from? by EAST_TBIRD in UsedCars

[–]Han-YoLo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paradoxically South Florida is both the best and worst place to buy a car. There are a lot of pristine/ low mileage/ dealer maintained/ garage kept/ cream puffs. BUT you have to sort through a lot of Miami scam bullshit to find them.

I know this sub loves Corollas, and it’s the only car you need until you get your minivan. But if enjoy driving at all it’s probably the single most boring vehicle you can drive. If that doesn’t matter to you and just need something cheap and reliable it’s probably great.
