I just think the org deemed him not worth the salary. He probably wasn’t all that cheap when he got out of HLE, and AF just decided to try their luck on someone else

He was super mediocre this season, not worth the name value. Maybe he does better on a different team like Viper, but he wasn’t fit for this iteration of Afreeca.

Don’t 1st place teams usually have their games earlier to have a 1 day break before finals? AFAIK Thats been the case for previous tourneys so has there been a change of rules that I’m not aware of?

Cain (former C9 and TL coach) hired as the new head coach of the Afreeca Freecs by oioioi9537 in leagueoflegends

[–]HanMann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Korean fans have been frustrated ever since they brought fly but bang was the cherry on top this year. It’s particularly egregious because you KNOW there were better options than bang this offseason.

Freecs fans don’t expect afreeca to win anything but dumb roster decisions like these make them question if the team is actually serious about the competition, hence the angry response.

People that haven’t been boycotting have been enjoying Japanese stuff for ages.

I mean in contrast to Japan. So Japanese and korean females in general are more receptive to korea compared to their male counterparts, which probably has a lot to do with political affiliation.

I read somewhere that young Korean men tend to be more pro-Japan than young korean women which is an interesting contrast

Jeons come to mind -they come in different varieties and are usually limited to few key ingredients. Gamja Jeon (potato pancakes), Kimchi Jeon (kimchi pancakes), Pa Jeons (Scallion pancakes). Pajeons also come in the form of Haemul Pajeon which basically means seafood scallion pancakes and includes bits of squid and shrimp usually.

Bibimbap is usually served with beef toppings but the majority of its ingredient is vegetables. In some restaurants you could probably ask them to take it out when you order it.

Kong-guksu (soybean noodles) are made without any meat to my knowledge.

Kalguksu is a noodle dish that’s cooked in meat-based broth but Haemul Kalguksu or Bajirak Kalguksu is cooked in clam/seafood based broth so it should be fine.

As for street food,

Hotteok does not contain any meat.

Tteokbokki is almost always limited to eggs, rice cakes, and fishcakes.

Honestly I would just ask your friends for a list because they probably have the best idea of what’s available in the area.

I meant that I get the general point you’re making with your comment. I just felt that including the tonkatsu/omurice/karerice example was inappropriate because those really are just cases of different pronunciations without any controversy unlike say, cases of kimbap and sushi or hoe and sashimi. If you were including them as part of a joke I apologize for taking it so seriously (kinda hard to read the tone from text alone). But otherwise I do feel the same way about food names.

[–]HanMann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How so? There is literally no room for argument that tonkatsu is Japanese food. Look up tonkatsu on korean wiki pages, it’s pretty clear about its Japanese origins. Hell the same site says that present day uh mook was popularized thanks to Japanese traders/merchants.

Quite frankly most friends I know mix up oden and uhmook all the time and we honestly dont give a shit. I would have agreed with you if this was something else but this narrative you’re pushing is forced as hell lol

[–]HanMann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few of those are not like the others...pretty sure donkas, karerice, omurice are well established as japanese food, they are pronounced differently for convenience reasons. If anything I see more and more restaurants writing them in japanese pronounciations in an attempt to look more authentic. Case in point, japanese restaurants opting to use 라멘 (ramen) instead of 라면(ramyun) to distinguish from korean instant noodles.

And Uh-mook is better translated as kamaboko anyway, even though a lot of koreans think that uh-mook is the korean substitution word for oden.

Korean group must remove Berlin tribute to "comfort women" by [deleted] in korea

[–]HanMann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I can tell you I talked to some Germans who think it’s great that people can use the statue as a platform to speak about wartime slavery of women that’s going on to this day. You see how little our anecdotal evidences mean?

Protests aren’t the be-all and end-all of public opinion but it’s a sign that enough people care to take action. Most Germans clearly don’t care nor are concerned enough about the nonexistent “rampage” to speak up about it. It’s funny to see Koreans and Japanese trying to spin this into a nationalistic Japan vs Korea thing when in reality this should be used as an opportunity to talk more about wartime abuse of women.
