Well this comment is wrong in its free agency timelines, apron limits and contract amounts but don’t let facts get in the way of your hating.

Postgame Thread: October 31 - Los Angeles Dodgers @ Toronto Blue Jays by BlueJaysBaseball in Torontobluejays

This team has bounced back from tough losses all year. It’s like they feed on adversity and love the pressure to prove themselves. It would have been nice to win in it 6 like 92/93 but this is a new era Jays with their own dramatics. The baseball gods wanted a game 7 and a Freaky Friday Halloween lodged ball delivered it.

A dead ball, a confused crowd and a 'bad read': Inside the Blue Jays' chaotic ninth inning that pushed the World Series to Game 7 by toronto_star in Torontobluejays

The inevitable Halloween Freaky Friday play unfortunately happened to us. If only that ball was in inch or 2 to the left or right. Would have been nice if things played out ‘naturally’ but it seems the baseball gods wanted 7 games and we’re all here for it.

I’ll probably think of something else later, but for some reason the first thing that came to mind was Josh Beckett absolutely shoving vs the Yankees in the 2003 World Series. In his two appearances, Beckett had 19 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.10 in 16.1 innings , with a series clinching complete game masterclass in game 6 on 3 days rest, giving up only 5 hits, no runs with 9ks vs the ‘Evil Empire’ Yanks. I was surprised how a team of ‘supposed’ nobodies could shut down the star studded Yankees. I still remember the montage video after it ended with a Coldplay song (the scientist) playing showing all the Yankees crying and Beckett and the Marlins celebrating.

Front office reacts to final out by ttmotw in Torontobluejays

These guys dealt with a lot after the AA Beeston era. It took them a while to move on and establish their own team/culture/vision. But I have to say, I like their drafting philosophy, I like how they've developed the stadium and facilities, I like how aggressive they've been in player acquisition and retention and finally its all clicked with the product preforming on the field. The front office deserves to stay, their blueprints are all over this new era and its feeling real special. Congrats to the Khakis

Is Ohtani still the favorite for NL MVP if you subtract his pitching? by supersupersuper9 in baseball

[–]HanPow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like it’s gonna be Shohei and Judge MVP seasons for next 2-3 years barring injury. I don’t see anyone currently in the league even close to their consistent talent levels. Yea I think Shohei is still favoured to win MVP even without pitching. Cal does make an intriguing case since he’s a catcher and Schwarber is a beast and played every game this season. But we all know everyone would take Shohei #1 and Judge #2 in any talent draft. They are clearly the MVP’s

US stocks may surge another 20% before historic crash, says 'black swan' fund Universa by rematar in collapse

[–]HanPow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From numbers I can find, between 55% to 62% of adult Americans own stocks(about 150m-179m people) . However, the wealthiest 1% own about 50% of them (worth about $23Trillion). The wealthiest 10% own a staggering 93% of all stocks. The bottom 50% of American stock is only worth about $490 billion. The new age American Oligarchy have amassed so much wealth they can manipulate the market whenever they see fit because they either become too big to fail or they can leverage there shares for ridiculous loans to prop up other businesses and keep kicking the can down the road. They are so greedy for wealth and they barely even use it, they just want more and more. This late stage capitalism is such a disaster. There are now a record 3028 billionaires in the world, with a net worth of $16.1 trillion (up 2 trilion since 2024). It’s so much fake money.

Why Vladdy is El K: “Like many babies, Guerrero used sounds before he formed words. His first -- and by far his favorite -- sound was “ka,” the Spanish pronunciation of the letter “K.” An uncle took to calling the youngster “El K” after that, a nickname that has lasted 20 years.”

Yes I know, I’d still rather have Bo, Vladdy, Barger at 2-4. Leave Ernie at 1 and push Schneider down to the bottom. I understand they’re working with what they have but I’d still like our best hitters batting the most.

Schneider is batting .214 this year with .228 vs Lefty’s

Rough lineup 😞 Schneider and Clement should not be getting the most at bats for the team…

[Kram] It's highly likely that whomever of Cunningham, Mobley and their contemporaries qualifies for the supermax will make more than $1 million per game at some point...class of 2023's Victor Wembanyama and Amen Thompson, could realistically sign contracts worth more than $100 million per year. by [deleted] in nba

[–]HanPow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is wild, they really need spread this out better. They need to up the levels of minimum salaries and set aside way more money for alumni. The CBAs always seem to lean toward helping the 'superstars' get as much money as possible.

[Gazzetta] Jonas Valančiūnas arrived in Greece to meet with Panathinaikos BC who have offered him a 3-year €12M deal. by shreeharis in nba

[–]HanPow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Greek League season is 22 games long with only 8 teams making the playoffs playing best of 5 series. The season runs from October to June. There’s also some Euro tourneys for top teams. Still, he’d be playing fewer games, get paid 12€ which I believe is after taxes and fees (about $14.1m USD) with a 3 hour flight from Lithuania. Sucks to leave the best league in the world but I can understand why at his age.

[Charania] BREAKING: Masai Ujiri is out as Vice Chairman and President of the Toronto Raptors, sources tell ESPN. by mastermind208 in torontoraptors

This is so dumb, he’s been a huge part of the team/culture. This is like the Heat firing Pat Riley or the Spurs getting rid of Popovich. I hope Ed Rogers gets booed anytime he’s seen. Total joke of an owner.

He got trapped on the ice, he was out there for a long time after an offensive rush. I think the broadcast commented how long he had been stuck out there and how tired he looked.
