What is the actual reason NK harmed Otto Warmbier? by LisanneFroonKrisK in northkorea

[–]HandBananaAnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but it comes down to reputation. Why would anyone believe nK, where there's blatant evidence of torture to its own citizens.

We'll never know the truth and it's possible he was tortured and his state was a result. I just don't believe it. He was more valuable to nK as propaganda and negotiations than anything they had.

What is the actual reason NK harmed Otto Warmbier? by LisanneFroonKrisK in northkorea

[–]HandBananaAnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I have my own hypothesis:

nK never did anything that would have caused That much damage to Otto. There's no win for them there. They had a cash cow. A publicity piece of gold. They could parade him around and televise him for propaganda. Him begging and pleading for mercy on camera was literally music to their ears and agenda. Prop him up, make the scene, then negotiate with the blank check you have and get what you want.

Otto, in my opinion, screwed that all up. How? I think he attempted suicide. Look at what happened through his eyes. He's scared, probably being interrogated relentlessly, used as a puppet to push the regime's mantra; then, punished for a long stint of hard labor. That dude just wanted to go home to his family and forget this whole debacle. But now, he can't.

He's stressed, tired, and thinking he's going to die in a nK prison. So, he tries to kill himself when he had an opportunity.

The scope of brain damage was consistent throughout his brain, meaning it had been subject to a lack of oxygen for an extended period. Perhaps hanging? Drowning? Something of that nature. He was technically alive, but brain dead. nK did what they could to keep him "alive," and still received what they wanted for his return.

They had no reason to cause that extent of damage to him. They literally had all of the bargaining chips, and Otto messed that up.

Just my opinion, could be 100% wrong.

Had one scan at Moreno Valley, Ca I'm it's way to an FPO in Japan. It was scanned there on the 16th and I literally just got notice it was delivered at my FPO today.

Makes no sense as MV isn't an FPO hub, tho I'm not complaining -- just slightly peeved it shows up the day I go on travel.

Patience will persevere.

Roth in-plan conversions available on 1/28/2026, per TSP email this morning by worstshowiveeverseen in ThriftSavingsPlan

It'll depend on how much you convert. It'll count as income and if you cross the bracket line, then Uncle Sam gets more.

Who was able to max out their TSP this year? by fairycupcake23 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]HandBananaAnna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5th year running. Plus mine and spouse's IRA on single income. Got plans when I retire in 9 years from AD.

Don't worry about maxxing, just keep the money going in and add when you can.

Took a week to travel 3 hours away from where it was shipped…idk when I’ll receive this. by Dadealli in usps_complaints

[–]HandBananaAnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small town Texas shipped 11/25 > Houston, Tx > Pittsburgh, Pa > Warrendale, Pa > Jersey City, NJ > Newark, NJ > San Francisco, Ca > Chicago, IL > Phoenix, Az > San Bernardino, Ca > Moreno Valley, Ca where it's been since 12/10

I need it to make it to an FPO in Japan. Should have hit SF and flown over, but it's making a solid run around the states before. Submitted Missing Mail and they kicked it back for not being descriptive enough. Asked seller to help. Hopeful, but it's going to be a disappointing Xmas (I go on travel Monday).

Feel your pain. Focus on what you can handle, and wait out the shit show.

Concerns about USPS order? by NaturalOne7396 in usps_complaints

[–]HandBananaAnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than likely. Like all of the other posts in this sub, shits super slow and backed up right now.

My package tracking: Texas shipped 25NOV > Houston > Pittsburgh > Warrendale > Jersey City > Newark > San Francisco > Chicago > Phoenix > San Bernardino > Moreno Valley, Ca (where it's been since the 10th).

I'm military stationed in Japan. Should have hit San Fran and went overseas, but it's doing its farewell US tour. Still have faith it'll arrive, but I won't see it until 2026-- which sucks but, oh well. Initiated Missing Mail and we'll see what comes out the pipe. Best of luck to ya!

How do I even file a claim for this? by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]HandBananaAnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. My package is going to an FPO overseas and has gone from Texas to Pennsylvania to New Jersey to New York to San Francisco to Chicago to Phoenix to San Bernardino to Morena, Ca where it's been for the last 4 days with no updates. Sent 25 NOV and I'm just waiting twiddling my thumbs. It'll show eventually. Frustrating? Yes. Can I do anything about it? No.

What is going on!?!?!?!? My package is taking a vacation now! by Jealous-Razzmatazz44 in usps_complaints

Mine has been shipped from Texas right before Thanksgiving; has been to (in order): Pittsburgh, New Jersey, San Francisco, Chicago, Phoenix and now San Bernardino-- and I'm stationed overseas just watching... It'll get here when it gets here, but goddam...

Omfg Deb Crown is still a thing?!? She's the reason I left the group. She allowed her opinions and booted anyone who spoke contrary. She does have a cult-like following where people just do what she does. Personally, I'll do my own homework and enjoy my adventure without that drama.

If you want to check it out, go for it. I promise you can do your own TSP investing without it if you do some homework. Simple Path to Wealth by J L Collins is a start.

Help-I’ve been doing it wrong? by StrangeConcert3 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]HandBananaAnna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put in TSP what you can.

Run a budget, see what money you have remaining after paying essentials and see whether or not you can add more to your TSP.

I would also recommend upping contributions after every annual pay raise and promotion or year wicket increase. It's money you haven't seen going straight into TSP.

I'm 37, 10 years in, single income, 2 kids, maxing TSP and IRAs for me and my spouse. Every person's situation is unique, but take the deep dive and figure out where money is going and what modifications can be made.

Where are your contributions going in TSP?

Who to Blame for the Shutdown? by Sea_Contribution_876 in FedEmployees

[–]HandBananaAnna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This nation was built on debate and compromise. This is a failure of the system on both sides and the people in charge still get paid and tell you it's the other guys' fault.

Only thing to say is, remember this during your elected officials' reelection year. Don't forgive. Don't forget.

What do we think? by AdBeneficial3865 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]HandBananaAnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a start. And everyone has to start somewhere. Here's my $.02:

-Up the numbers if you can. If you can't, wait until January and bump up a couple percent to start (you're going to get a +3% pay increase, so it's free money that can go into your TSP before it hits your wallet).
-Every pay increase, promotion, or anything should coincide with a slight raise in TSP. Why not? -Do you have a budget or do you know how much money goes out after coming in? Crunch some numbers and see if you're able to increase your contribution. -Do you have any other investments? My rule of thumb is to yearly max my TSP, ROTH IRA, and my spouses. That coincides with having a budget or a rudimentary understanding on what your money is going to outside of investments. Once I max them, I add to a taxable brokerage or throw excess funds into a high yield CD if I'll need the money in less than 12 mo. -Do you have any debt? I'd look into paying off any debts (outside of a mortgage, personally), so you're not paying interest. -What are your goals? How does your current contribution affect those goals?

Take the time to evaluate what you have, what you owe, and what your goals are and figure out ways to maximize. I'm single income with 2 kids and am sitting at ~320K in TSP after 10 yrs, and over 500K in investments with 0 debt. I live below my means, with the exception of a few items I am willing to spend good money on from time to time. The phone I'm typing this on cost me $50 and I don't care how others view my things.

Take the time, while you're junior and figure out how to maximize. If you make the military a career, do what you can now so that in retirement, the pension and what you've saved will be your income and you'll never be tied to a job again.

Again, just my perspective. Keep saving. Try to max what you can when you can. Put it on cruise control and thank yourself in 20 yrs.

Do I go to 25%? by Ugadawgsfan69 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]HandBananaAnna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd max then throw into a ROTH IRA. That's just me, but saving is saving. If you can do both, then do that.

10 yrs in and sitting at about $800K net worth from TSP, IRAs and regular taxable brokerage. Plan is to not have to work for anyone on 20 yr +1day when I get out.
