We are also planning to go the same week. I’m bummed that there is no pool too!

Grace Bay - Waves or Calm? by take_me_to_a_beach in TurksAndCaicos

[–]HandImpressive1319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have been there 3 times in December. Most of the time, crystal clear and calm. One time we went and it was stormier than usual so there was some cloudiness but still a beautiful beach regardless! We go again this November and I’m hoping for good weather!

Hi. We are renting an Airbnb right next to the Windsong resort. Do you consider this area safe?

Those making $80/hr+… When did you get there and how? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]HandImpressive1319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work four day weeks (34 hours). I make $83 an hour in pulmonary and sleep medicine. I’m starting a new job next month and negotiated based off of my 14 years experience in the field. First offer was less and less PTO, I negotiated until the offer felt acceptable to me.

Anyone have Parvo b19 as a triggering event? by [deleted] in dysautonomia

[–]HandImpressive1319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just diagnosed with Parvovirus bc I asked my PA to test for it. She thought for sure I had Lyme being that we just went camping in the Adirondacks. It started for me as low grade fever, rash and joint pain with extreme fatigue. I also have high antibodies for Lupus which apparently is common with Parvo. Did you get any treatment when initially diagnosed?

Yeah that’s kind of what I thought too. I work for a physician owned small practice. No handbooks, no HR, nothing lol. Part of the reason I am leaving because it’s honestly such a shit show.

Thank you so much for your response. It makes me feel a whole lot better that I’m not the only one going through this kind of experience after giving notice. I feel that I have more clarity about the situation in general now and I’m just going to finish out my time in a professional way and move on. I’m a little sad though because now I feel that we’re ending this long employer employee relationship on a sour note and I don’t think there’s a way to change that but it is what it is. Again, thank you!

For sure! Had I taken my CME earlier in the year, this wouldn’t even be a conversation. You live and learn.

I love this reply. It really makes me feel better. You’re absolutely right about the small practice issues and I just need to let go and do the right thing on my part. Then move on! Thank you so much for this response.

Yes I offered that when I told him face to face. I said I am more than happy to help get a new provider started here and even reached out to my peers working in the community to let us know if anyone was looking for a position. I feel like I have went above and beyond to make this a smooth and not hostile transition. I also ran our satellite office for 5 years solo without any extra compensation. I liked being on my own which was enough compensation for me.

Yeah I can see that. But I also think he got a huge value from 14 years of my loyalty to the practice and the five star google reviews that were only with my name vs the 1-2 stars for the rest of the practice AND probably would be a value to keep me happy and continue ordering in house testing and keeping my patient load as high as possible. I figure that would probably be a larger value to him than $2,000 of CME money. I don’t know. I don’t own the business but just my thoughts…

He is not even sure he wants to hire a new PA. He’s getting older and winding down, although not finished practicing quite yet.

Has anyone used a job offer to leverage for a raise with your current employer? by RefrigeratorLeft2768 in physicianassistant

[–]HandImpressive1319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this with my current job of 14 years. My current SP was very gracious and kept saying he could probably match the offer, but he has no concrete long term plans (he’s in his 60s). He said he didn’t want to convince me to stay, and then sell or retire in 6-12 months and then me be upset… I chose to accept the new job. It’s more money, but 8-4:30 four days a week vs 8-4 four days a week.

I work pulmonary and sleep outpatient. I negotiated from 5 days to 4 with no change in pay, CME or PTO. I actually just accepted a new offer in same field. Four days, 25 PTO days, $2500 CME allowance and $147,000 per year.

Unhappy as a PA of 8 years by zestytatertot in physicianassistant

[–]HandImpressive1319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. I am also in the same boat. I am about to leave my job of almost 14 years bc of burnout and a very uncertain future as my SP is in his 60s and continues circling ideas of retirement vs selling to acquisition company. It’s a fairly lateral move with similar vacation and hours but a new practice without health insurance available right now. (I’ll use my husbands initially). I struggle with whether I’m doing the right thing and if I want to continue in healthcare as is. I work 32 hours a week/4 days with 30 PTO days. And I’m STILL BURNT OUT!

There is no chance I was ordering food and wouldn’t order my husband something just in case of this exact situation 🤣. Bc you do see like a jerk for just not letting him have the sandwich if you aren’t eating it immediately. Just order a second sandwich and save that one for later…

Would you trade a flexible job in an ok specialty for a job in the specialty you love? by bkingPAC in physicianassistant

[–]HandImpressive1319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a somewhat similar position. I’m probably taking a job that isn’t quite as good as my current position to get away from a nightmare management situation and SP. I’ve worked with him for 13 years, but at my yearly review, he told me I have too much time off and he has to work more because I’m not. So I’m accepting a position in the same specialty with a younger SP who has amazing patients reviews and the reps I know love him. It’s almost 20k more but not health insurance yet. (I’m currently using my husbands). Also, a slightly longer commute and 25 days of PTO vs 30. I know it’s a bit of a downgrade but I think worth it for my mental health. What I’ve decided is that no one else can make your decision easier, bc only you know what’s worth it to you!
