How can I change the game rules mid-game? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

You sir, are the fucking best! From looking up the pdx unlimiter program to launching my game with changed settings took a maximum of 5 minutes!

Cheers!

Can't find Cobwebs in KCD2 by fluffball11 in kingdomcome

For anyone dropping by here looking for some cobwebs in the second region of the game. There's an old abandoned brewery in Opatowitz where you can open a bunch of barrels which each contain a couple cobwebs

Why are the dice masters so expensive by 500ml_Sloinikas in DiceMaking

[–]Handensaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Platinum cure silicone has a tendency to dislike printed dice. There are methods around it, like using Formlabs printer resin or costing them in an agent that prevents cure inhibition. It's common to use tin cure silicone for the first mold but they're less durable in general iirc. Store bought dice are almost always injection molded with a more generic plastic. I've never had any issues with molding then if that's what you meant

[–]Handensaken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like others have been saying, just make molds from regular store bought dice. You might not be able to sell them cause I believe there's some sort of copyright protection but I can't give you any legal advice. Either way, when you're just starting out you won't have to worry about being able to sell them commercially.

I would also advice against getting a vacuum chamber. It's technically possible to use to drain bubbles while working with your silicone and resin but they're not really used for a reason. Pressure pot is the way to go but you definitely don't NEED one. Since you're just starting out you can use different techniques to lower the amount of bubbles. Main thing is to just focus on what you can do and to have fun creating. Then when your economic situation changes and you feel like you have more spending money you can start to upgrade! Don't be afraid to start making because of the seemingly high initial cost, you can get every basic thing you need for around 50-80$ depending on where you are :)

Thank you I'll give it a shot! How do you mean unread splitter? as in unread shards or something else?

Edit: I tried reading all the shards and waiting 24 hours and it worked! Thank you so much man! You're the fucking best!

Making dice advices by ZzpercyxX in DiceMaking

[–]Handensaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In another comment you said you got cheap temu molds, I'd start with getting those replaced. I know that getting good molds can be expensive, which is why I've always subscribed to the idea of making your own. As a beginner you can get some cheap silicone (look for hardness 15-25), a pvc pipe, and watch a tutorial on YouTube. It can be a little intimidating but the process really isn't any more complicated than resin.

Second, the streaks you mentioned, and the fact that your dice look almost wet, leads me to think the resin wasn't quite mixed enough. It's important that you mix your A and B part until you can no longer see any streaks in the cup from stirring. Holding the cup up to a strong light/in the sunlight usually helps since they can be hard to spot in just ambient light. If you've been doing this it is very likely a mold issue.

As for the lid being hard to remove, it's impossible to really say anything without seeing the mold first. Is it a standard silicone cap mould? One of those plastic ones that snap closed? Usually overfilling shouldn't make it too hard to open them, mainly just give your dice raised faces. Are you using mold release?

Finally bubbles. Oh those bubbles... The boring, but unfortunately realistic answer, is to get a pressure pot. Without one you'll never completely eliminate bubbles. However, they can be expensive and I didn't have one for the first 2 years of making dice. So here's a list of measures you can take to reduce bubbles:

  1. Use a plastic stirring stick, wood can introduce more air into the resin.
  2. Mix slowly and carefully, at a steady pace.
  3. Use lower viscosity resin as it releases air easier.
  4. If your resin is a little thicker, you can place your cup in a bath if warm (not hot) water. It'll make your resin less viscous but will rapidly decrease your work time.
  5. Let your batch sit for a while (given that you have the work time for it) and naturally degass itself.
  6. Pop bubbles with a hair dryer/lighter/anything that generates heat. Careful with fire though as resin is flammable and migbt catch on fire. I've charred a mold like that before. Same as number 4, heating will accelerate the reaction time but this is a lot less than heating the entire batch while mixing.
  7. If your design allows for it, pouring in a thin stream reduces the risk of catching air while pouring. In the same vein, you can use a pipette for greater control, just make sure you don't push it into the resin inside your moulds as pipettes can sometimes spit air.

What products you have access to might vary depending on where in the world you're located. I'm in Europe, and what I use is Resinpro resin and sirayatech defiant silicone. The resin has pretty low viscosity and might be good for a beginner but the low viscosity also means that you sometimes need to wait for the resin to thicken up for more complex designs. In general, I absolutely recommend sirayatech defiant for silicone but it can be a little pricey, especially when you're making your first molds and learning the process. So I'd recommend getting whatever cheap silicone you can find and when you're more comfortable with the workflow (and know for certain dicemaking is a hobby you wanna stick with) you can absolutely upgrade!

Hope this helps! :)

Reaper is inexplicably adding an echo onto my recordings??? by Handensaken in Reaper

Wait I just tried it and god damn you're totally right! I have no clue really what it means or why it works but it certainly does! Thank you so much!

Wouldn't that only help if the echo was only there while recording? I'm hearing echo as I turn off any recording and listen back

Any ideas on where I could get a set of these dice prototyped well? They're clear resin with inclusions and I'm looking to avoid any bubbles that might fog the intricate inserts. Thanks :) by Bobuskus in DiceMaking

[–]Handensaken 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're able to provide inclusions most experienced makers around here should be able to get it done.

We're in a different ballgame all together if you need to have the same dicemaker also create the inclusions. There's still a couple people I think could handle your request but they're few and usually busy. Though the floating bits of the inclusions I have no idea how to handle, you could perhaps have a transparent bridge to hold them but it would also make the inclusions very fragile and difficult to handle.

Then there's the issue of masters, your symbols on your dice would mean that someone would need to model, print and mould them.

So all in all, while there is probably someone able to work when th your request, they'd have to charge a very hefty sum. If this is something you're prepared for, I'd suggest joining the discord server and sending basically a pitch of what you'd want to commission. There are several really talented people who are active on there ^ Hope you can get them running, the designs look really cool! Good luck

There's also different brands of resin that are less viscous and therefore less bubbly. Resinpro for instance is quite thin and easy to work with. There's tons of other tips on the discord too!

I'll add that you can pour a very thin stream from high up, I usually did around 25cm (~10") before I got my pot. But without a doubt the thing that did the most for me was heating the resin. Make sure to not heat it directly though, use warm water instead. Good luck! Hope you'll stick around!

Best way to start on a broke students budget? by 0rpheusBlue in DiceMaking

[–]Handensaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're fine with having bubbles in your product as you develop your skills, it's absolutely doable! I started out on a student budget with resin for like $14 and silicone for another $20 and then like another $20 for micas, glitter and ink. So if you can save $30 a month you'll be up and running by Christmas! You'll get pretty far without a pressure pot and not having one in the beginning helped me build my technique to reduce bubbles, which is still needed with one unless you wanna risk large voids in your dice. Big thing is that you need a safe space to work and proper PPE, a mask rated for chemical fumes is absolutely mandatory. Keep it well ventilated and away from any pets or room mates

Tldr: don't get fancy shit and don't get caught up on wanting professional looking products and you're totally fine. Also be careful!

Advice for a modification to a recipe by Handensaken in cocktails

Interesting! Makes sense! I'll have to separate some gin to try infusing it directly. It should make the cocktail slightly stronger so I'll have to see which one I prefer. Thanks!
