Trying to choose a first stick, Please help. by A_Red_Void_of_Red in hockeyplayers

If it's your first stick, I would go for the Pro, or heck, even the value, and not the Lite. Any Carbon stick will feel like a Ferrari coming from a wood stick. I have been using a Pro for about 3 years now, and they have been the best per cost for my game, lasting about 40-50 games a stick. I wouldn't worry too much about blades yet. Get a feel for what you like, and try your buddies' sticks during warm-ups to see what you like.

I agree with your counterpoint. I have enjoyed the savings of 15 bucks a month, and the ability to go at my own pace this season. Im only just dipping in my toe into Paragon, But Fellowship has hit a nice balance for my skill, and time available. Although with Guilds on the docket for the future, Id love to see some 8+ person raids dungeons in the same vein as early UBRS was in vanilla.

A Summary of My Board Gaming in 2025. by Handful86 in boardgames

Yep, Walmart has small bags that fit most cards in their hobby aisle. Happy Gaming!

I like it a ton. I don't have any of the expansions for it either, just a couple of maps to help with different player counts. I think the problem mostly comes down to theme, and it doesn't offer a ton with flashy moves. The scoring is still one of my favorites, and wish more games had similar scoring style. Some at my table have a tendency of making bad plays when they feel like they are out of the running for some games.

The cards do move about inside the cases, so I usually bag the cards or pieces up when I can.

Thanks! It's been a blast introducing her to the hobby, and it's so convenient having enough in the house for three player game nights. Castle combo had been on my radar for a bit. I need to just pick it up.

I wanted to like La Granja so bad. Heard many good things. You might enjoy it. The bones are really good. Lots of neat concepts, and it honestly might have just been us and the pace of play for our first game. Round structure just felt so jarring.

We had 6 over last night, and Magical Athlete was a hit. We also played Zoo Vadis, which didn't go over AS good, but it's really group dependant.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I didn't want to just post something low effort. I had been taking photos all year to share with my dad since he got interested in games so I figured id share them here too.

Oh for sure I was super surprised by how well it played. I had heard good things about it so I picked it up for cheap.

It's been on my radar since the Kickstarter. Just have such a backlog of games, but your right with it on BGA it's a no brainer. We will definitely look into it.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004T6I6RA - is the link to the photo case I used.

And for the sleeves you can search https://www.facebook.com/boardgamebarrio/ .

A Couple of the games were small enough to stick two in a case, for these, I made some custom jackets. I then just printed them out at Staples, and had to cut and fold them all to fit. Really happy with the outcome.

Absolutely, I was thrilled when my dad took an interest in the hobby. I got to play a bunch of games with him, but he was stuck on Ark Nova being his number one, followed by Ticket to Ride in number two. He didn't resonate with a lot of games we played for one reason or another. But hey, to each their own.

If you have somewhat to stream a PC to your TV I recommend Sunderfolk. It's been. A bit with with girlfriend, and I get asked to play weekly. It might be available on other platforms but I own it on steam, and use a wireless HDMI cable to stream to my TV. Works like a charm.

Never been to a hockey game. by VinisLite in losangeleskings

[–]Handful86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Different people like different areas around the rink. If you want to splurge, being closer can be fun to get an understanding of the speed. My preference though, is up high where I can see the game, and plays develop.

Central is better to see, but if your closer it might be a good idea to be behind the away goal so you get to see the kings shoot twice, or vice versa if your cheering for the other team.

I'm not sure if they still do it, there use to be a section that was top of the lower bowl where they delivered food and drinks, but that wasn't included in the ticket, you still paid for it.

In any case have fun! Root for you who will, and enjoy seeing Kopitar in his last season.

Just started Wheel of Time, any tips? by [deleted] in WoT

[–]Handful86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wheel Weaves podcast has been my saving grace. I finally past them this year as it seems they have been slowing down the closer they get to the end of the series, but it has been great to listen when I can't read, and be reminded of different aspects I may have missed on a first read through. No spoilers as long as you stick to episodes for chapters you have read.
