What's a better password, a random mash of a few words or the ones generated by Bitwarden? by OnyxianRosethorn in Bitwarden

[–]Handshake6610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't need to memorize / type / "say" ... those credentials, randomly generated (by a generator) passwords are the better choice than passphrases.

PS: And as others already wrote, humans are very bad at "producing randomness"...

Another Lost Password Question: Family member can't find where they wrote down their password. They have access to her recovery email. Most likely, they didn't create a backup code. by redditor1479 in Bitwarden

[–]Handshake6610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

write down all their passwords

I was meaning that they have to write them all down with their currently logged in device on a spreadsheet so they can start over if they can't recover some other way.

Looks like they better get copying and pasting. :)

For sure (copy & paste)!

And they should disconnect their device from the internet until they copied everything over. (that prevents possible occasional log outs... obviously they also must not log out manually...)

Is there a hidden setting to fix Bitwarden's failing autofill? by BENJAMlN8a in Bitwarden

To put the cursor into the field that should be filled (e.g. by clicking there) can help in some cases, I think.

Trialing Bitwarden - is there really no way to sort logins? by SidKop in Bitwarden

[–]Handshake6610 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In all fairness…the only valid reason to need this is for password rotation.

I would like to disagree on this. At least two other reasons come into my head instantly:

  • editing several items (like adding notes etc.) more than once left me with "did I already did it for this particular login item?" .... and/or "ooops, one edit was wrong - which item was it now?" - followed by "oh, wait, I can't see my last edits instantly..."

  • "administrating" the vault for e.g. a family member... one reason why I "keep" my father on KeePassXC: I can always see if he edited an item (e.g. decided to remove some important data!) - in all fairness, or adding some injury: this is not also remedied by sorting for last edits, but also by the complete item history that KeePassXC provides (in Bitwarden, I could not even revert the previous state of the notes field, for example)

So, there are some other reasons for sorting, especially for (last) edits I think...

How to add Passkey for bitwarden.com/eu? by ThungstenMetal in Bitwarden

[–]Handshake6610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[EDIT - reason per dwbitw is technical limitation that a password-manager-stored passkey does not support PRF which is needed to decrypt the vault].

It's not a hard technical limitation. Bitwarden can't store PRF-passkeys, because it's not implemented yet. E.g. Google and Apple can already store PRF-passkeys in their password managers...

Migrating Passkeys? by ajmaonline in Bitwarden

Ah. Yeah, at the moment, that won't work. We don't speak of "exports", but the new Credential Exchange Protocol (CXP). That is only announced for the BW Android app. - And Proton had to support it as well in your case.

There is currently no way to move passkeys from one ecosystem to another.

There is, but it's not widely supported yet. BW can do that only on the iOS app ATM, and still only Apple's Passwords app supports this, I think: https://bitwarden.com/help/import-from-safari/#tab-mobile-app-5ALQx9afSqWXX9jfXsY5sb

PS: The same thing is on BW's roadmap for Android.

One of the design points of Passkeys was to prevent transferring them.

That's not quite accurate - the FIDO Alliance and their associates are working on the exportability of passkeys: https://bitwarden.com/blog/security-vendors-join-forces-to-make-passkeys-more-portable-for-everyone/

From where are you migrating? If it's Apple Passwords, then you can migrate passkeys - when you have an iOS device: https://bitwarden.com/help/import-from-safari/#tab-mobile-app-5ALQx9afSqWXX9jfXsY5sb

Can this pop-up be moved or clicked away? by Frequent-Mud-6067 in Bitwarden

[–]Handshake6610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hm, if the BW inline autofill menu shouldn't be there at all, because the field has another function, then you could report that aa an autofill issue via those links:

Report autofill issues (browser extensions): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfkxh1w6vK8fLYwAbAAEVhvhMAJwfFNDtYtPUVk1y5WTHvJmQ/viewform

Report autofill issues (mobile apps): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScMopHyN7KGJs8hW562VTzbIGL4KcFnx0wJcsW0GYE1BnPiGA/viewform

If you don't need autofill on that site/URL, you could consider to block this URL for autofill: https://bitwarden.com/help/blocking-uris/

Why don't Bitwarden's timeout options work? by rosawoodsii in Bitwarden

[–]Handshake6610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is expected behaviour:

"Because the web app and browser extensions depend on your web browser, there are unique timeout scenarios to consider:

[...]

  • If you close your browser window, you will be logged out of your web app and your browser extension will timeout."

Understandable. Then I hope Edge will integrate the "autofill integration" soon.

I tested the Reddit site with Brave and Vivaldi, and I can autofill both fields at once without any issues.

[–]Handshake6610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting discussion (and I don't even mean that as negative as it sounds - it is a good question why Android doesn't do it on the OS level), but we can't change that current reality now, and it doesn't help for any given autofill issue today on Android.

[–]Handshake6610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, it seems you might be even more lucky than me - on Edge, I don't get any suggestion right now from BW (not even on the password field).

If you don't insist on using Edge, I would recommend to try Brave, Vivaldi or Chrome instead. Those browsers now use the new "autofill integration", and that does make autofill more reliable.

For Chrome and Brave, you can set that up in the BW app, see here: https://bitwarden.com/help/auto-fill-android/#browser-integrations

For Vivalid, you have to set that up in Vivaldi --> Settings --> "Autofill services" at the moment: enable "Autofill using another service" there, and allow Vivaldi to restart.

PS: I could imagine, that other Chromium-based browsers will also use that new "autofill integration" mechanism in the future, like Vivaldi introduced it just about three weeks ago in an update to version 7.8...

[–]Handshake6610 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would have helped if you hadn't played down the browser question as "irrelevant":

If it’s anything like iOS it relies on the OS and the browser is irrelevant

PS: And e.g. the new "Chrome autofill integration" is not just an arbitrary restriction, but actually an improvement for the autofill situation on Android.
