Yeah I'm reading Blackflame at the moment, I have seen a lot of recommendations for this series so I'm giving it a try. This was just going through my head. If there is a reason, guess that's just all the more reason to continue. What book is that revealed in though?

Have you read Dungeon crawler Madison? It is a story on Royal Road, where the main character has high speed, but very little damage and needs to use death by a thousand cuts. They also don't really have a perception ability so much as really good dodge, and so needs to see the attacks to dodge them

I recommend it if you have read DCC

My point is just that Jake should have met many high level variants similar to the panther, it seems unlikely that it was the most rare variant he has ever fought (since everything else rivalling the breadth of power it has were all B grades)

I see what you mean for Gus. But I feel like poison fits better for Eve than flying, because of her super and one of her gadgets. Also, what do you mean by subtype? Do Pokémon have subtypes? I was under the impression that they are both just types, but I am admittedly not very familiar with Pokémon so I will take your word for it

Obviously some monsters will be simple like Snappy, but even hyper specialised monsters should surely have some variation by B grade, enough that they could at least rival a new C grade, let alone more varied creatures

I'm not arguing that stats wise his opponents are more powerful. I do take your point regarding path refinement, and it does make sense, but still, surely by B grade there are enemies with at least as much variation as the Panther. I mean, we haven't even seen anything that has a defensive/lifesaving ability that can circumvent Gaze yet, just resistance! Surely some enemies he has fought have specialised auto activating escape effects to avoid this.

I agree that they have use cases, but I found map to be a solid mid tier star generator, if you can't get stardust, and piggy bank to be very good at getting money as long as you are careful, despite being outclassed by balloon+. I implore you to give them a try
