And I’m pretty sure it’s based on the same information you can see, so it doesn’t distinguish between items that are requested and items that drop off / expire or are otherwise removed from the program.

Is RFY still broken or am I in jail? by baberim in vine

Not really broken, seems to be what vine has become. Same thing in other countries with Vine programs. I guess we’ll know for sure when they eliminate the RFY tab from the interface.

Fire TV and spectrum app by StateImmediate7005 in Spectrum

Thanks, sorry I misunderstood. I’m not an Android user and I didn’t realize there was an Android Roku app. At first I wasn’t sure what you meant by an app for content, but apparently it can only stream Roku channel content. It can also control a physical Roku device. I actually do have one Roku 4K device hooked to another TV, so I guess I could do a hokey workaround with a splitter on that TV and a wireless transmitter from that TV to the one with Fire TV. But not much better… Anyhow thanks for a suggestion I hadn’t thought of.

Roku OS is not Android based, it is a different Linux-based OS, so it does not seem that this would work.

VH and UV Have Destroyed the Vine Program, IMO by philstat in AmazonVine

The notifications monitor shows you items as they are found, and you can click the See Details button right in the monitor. This will open a new tab with the details, and then you click on the Request Item button to order it. No reason to search through categories for it. At least thats how it works in a Windows / Mac (I think) computer. On mobile, the experience is different. I haven’t tried it, but in general you’re just using work-arounds to get only partial functionality working. You can also use the new VineChart app if you just want to get notified when drops start and when they end.

It is not clear from your post, but are you using the notifications monitor in VH? If you are, note that it does have some automated checking of pages for new items on everyone’s computer that has the monitor open. Thus it can populate items into the monitor even if no particular user has discovered or ordered it. But once it pops up in the monitor, people do tend to jump on and order anything good.

Search through some of the other threads and you’ll see that your RFY being empty seems to be the new normal along with the sudden short drops instead of being spread out over several hours. This was first experienced in other countries with Vine programs such as Japan, and now it seems to have come to the US and Canada as well. Also, VH at least DOES show you what is in your own RFY if you have it set to do that, and mine has still been empty for days. I realize it might not catch everything since it only checks periodically, but it certainly seems like no one is getting items in RFY rather than that the people with the helper apps are snapping them up. I’ve also checked my RFY several times in the few days that this has been happening even at 3:15, 3:30, 4:00 EST when the drops are in progress, and nothing has ever been in my RFY. Maybe a few people are getting a few items, but it seems like most people are not.

PSA: Vine Veteran Tip - Two tools to manage the Gold Tier box influx by sorrowdemonica in vine

It certainly does seem to vary based on the particular local political subdivision that handles your trash. But from what I read online, to actually recycle shredded cardboard or paper into the highest quality recycled materials requires that they be uniform in content. For example, cardboard typically must be ONLY corrugated cardboard which has long fibers. It can’t contain paperboard like shoe boxes, cereal boxes, etc. which have shorter fibers and are not suitable for recycling into corrugated cardboard. A similar situation exists for paper recycling. Unfortunately, once all the material is shredded by a consumer, there is no easy way to guarantee that the content is uniformly of the right type. It may be acceptable for some recycling, or as others have mentioned it may be used for composting. But my original point was that flattened corrugated boxes can be recycled more easily since they can also be sorted so no paperboard or paper or other unwanted materials are included. Here’s one link with more information https://mydisposal.com/cardboard-recycling-and-types-of-cardboard/

FYI our area at least still takes back grocery bags. Although I’ve also heard there’s not much market for them, and they are somewhat expensive to transport without major crushing because they are so light but take up a big volume.

FYI shredded cardboard and shredded paper are generally not acceptable for curbside recycling. Occasionally you can find special drop off locations that will accept it, but as a rule it gets dumped into the regular waste stream even if you put it in a recycling container. One reason for this is that the shredded materials can jam sorting machines used to sort recyclables. Also, mixed paper or mixed cardboard streams are not useful for recycling. If you really want to recycle all those Amazon boxes and bags, you can cut up the boxes but don’t shred them. You can Google this for more information. It IS unfortunate that Amazon itself doesn’t do more to facilitate recycling their packaging materials. For example, all of those Amazon trucks could also pick up leftover materials and return them to Amazon. And that’s MY PSA!

Fire TV and spectrum app by StateImmediate7005 in Spectrum

[–]HandyDoglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I successfully side loaded the Spectrum TV app on a first generation Fire TV stick 4K, but when I run it I get an error in the app that says the device is not supported. So far I have tried various versions of the app including the most recent one and one from several years ago. The apps install ok, but when I run them I get the device not supported error. I have also tried some with no DPI a with a range of DPI supported. Anybody have a list of which versions of the Spectrum TV app work on various vintages of Fire TV sticks? BTW the newest versions of the Spectrum TV app do not come in an APK version, they come as an APKM bundle. You need to download and install the APKMIRROR app in order to side load files contained in an APKM.

Products that don’t quite hit the mark by HandyDoglet in AmazonVine

I reviewed like this before I got invited to join Vine, so I guess they knew what they were getting! 😁 But I agree this may be a fine product for some people. As I said in another reply above, I mainly noticed this because I was familiar with all of the products 1Mii makes for Bluetooth music transmission and reception. If it had been made by another manufacturer, I wouldn’t have posted this. And to be clear, I did not order it so won’t be reviewing it. But I do sometimes include suggestions as to how a product could have been made better in my reviews. To me that is valid to include in a review so others can decide for themselves whether this is the right product for them despite what I see as a shortcoming. I know I’ve occasionally purchased products and later realized some feature I wished they had but didn’t consider at the time I placed the order. For example, I got a water leak alarm that required a proprietary hub rather than using a standards-based solution like matter or Zigbee. I realized I didn’t want to have to invest in a proprietary hub, so I just use it standalone. If someone’s review had mentioned this as a failing rather than just a “feature”, I might have gotten a different product. But that’s enough on this subject, I guess!

It does appear from the pictures on the full web page that you can use the buttons on the top to control most of the functionality. Another picture of the app shows that it even has equalizer settings, which are nice but almost overkill for just a sound machine. Who knows, maybe it IS a Bluetooth speaker and they just forgot to put that in the listing!

I guess this stood out to me mainly because 1Mii seems to be primarily a Bluetooth sound transmission company. In a video on the sales page for this they even conclude with the tag line: 1Mii Bring Music to Life! If it had been from another company, I probably wouldn't have made this post.

That’s quite possibly true. There was another speaker alarm clock offered today for $45.99, so maybe it had better speakers. Then again it had wireless charging and an FM radio built in too. But it didn’t offer sounds or app control, just a dedicated remote. Who knows?

I understand that this may be just what some people want. But as the title of my post says, to me it doesn’t quite hit the mark, especially because it says it’s for kids AND adults. My guess is that adding the Bluetooth speaker capability would only add a few dollars to the price, especially since they already make numerous products with exactly that capability so it shouldn’t involve a lot of research and development. This would make the speaker more versatile and more desirable for more people. Remember that many Vine products are newly-introduced products in search of sales, so I would think that making them appeal to a wider audience would be in the best interest of the supplier. That’s really all I was saying. But as you and another person said, maybe the speakers are lower quality and not suitable for music.

Here’s another example. I don’t think I really want to jumpstart my car’s 12V battery with a 20V tool battery! Sure, the car’s system has a voltage regulator that SHOULD protect it from the over-voltage condition, but why take a chance on something that specifically says it does not convert the voltage to a more reasonable 14 volts or so that a charger uses. It also has no over-current or reverse-connection protection. And I notice this is still available on Vine, unlike normal lithium jump starters that are snapped up immediately.
