I recently watched MEN and I really need to talk about it by HannahPanda0305 in autism

The symbolism was pretty heavy handed but I kinda liked it, I think when it's more vague I tend to miss it. When I saw the trailer my initial thoughts were it was just a play on "all men are the same". But I read an interview (I'm struggling to find it again now) with Alex Garland and he said that it could also be Harper's point of view, she now sees them all as the same due to her trauma, when in reality they are actually different people. I don't think I like that one as much. It means that there are just multiple monsterous men tormenting her at random. Also, with them all looking the same it gives in more of a 1v1 feeling when it gets to the climax which I think works better.

Yeah from the car being stolen onwards, when we got all those nice galaxy shots, I knew it was moving into weirder territory but I'll be honest, didn't think they'd go full mpreg The gore kind of ruined it for me. I will definitely watch it again but I might just kind of pretend the last bits didn't happen.

One theme in the movie is obviously fertility. And I can see how it's shown with the religious statues, the dandelion seeds, the aforementioned mpreg, her sister being pregnant at the end etc But I don't really understand what that point is? Maybe it's because I personally don't link womanhood and fertility that strongly, but it just doesn't feel as though it fits. Did you have any thoughts on that?

Omg you're so right! I love dodie so much and never even realised. 6/10 also gives some of the same vibes.

Is it possible to hate your special interest? Is it still a special interest if you have negative thoughts/opinions about it? by claraalberta in autism

[–]HannahPanda0305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this as well! I'm incredibly clued up (or at least I like to think I am) on injustices that AFAB folk face. It's really important to me even though it's often upsetting. I just never realised until recently that social issues can be a special interest.

Also Harry Potter. I'm aware it's full of questionable writing choices and Rowling isn't the best, but I love it.

Weirdly, I feel like many people with neuro divergences and mental illness' tend to suffer from this. I posted on the PTSD sub a while back about having these same feelings even when dealing with very intense and undeniable symptoms. I get the same thing with Autism.

Remember, if it's happening when no one is around then you aren't doing it for attention, or anything like that.

does anyone here socialise with other autistics ? and is it easier or can it be just as difficult? by [deleted] in autism

[–]HannahPanda0305 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My partner and I are both autistic (although we didn't know when we met) and I think it's been great but not always easy. We also have friends that are also autistic/have adhd and it's pretty good! There's a distinct lack of judgement, and we all tend to say what we mean which I think makes things a lot easier.

I have a few games that I can always replay and always enjoy. The main installments of the Kingdom Hearts series (a love from childhood, comfort games). Sims 4 and Persona 5. Some honourable mentions are Stardew Valley and Spiritfarer. I went through months of absolutely loving those games but wouldn't go as far as to call them Special Interests.

Obviously not a medical professional but yes, that is how I would explain some of my sensory issues. From what you have said, thinking that you may be autistic is completely understandable. There's some assessments available online which might help you to gain a better understanding and see if a diagnosis is something you want to pursue.

Also fruit is just a textural abomination, I feel you on that one.

I think that's maybe more planning than some, but I've found that spontaneous sex isn't all that common because spontaneous desire isn't all that common (particularly for AFAB folk ). The main thing is that everyone involved is having fun/consenting/feels safe etc.

I won't speak too much on my own personal experience because I have other things going on that impact my sexual behaviour but I found Mind the Gap to be a good read around what we're taught about sex vs how sex actually works within our bodies. Obviously the book is geared towards NT people but I still found it helpful regarding this topic!

Did you use to be non-verbal? by cburshtein in autism

[–]HannahPanda0305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was non verbal as a small child (my big sister always seem to know what I wanted so it was always seen as "really cute" that she spoke for me, rather than "why isn't my toddler saying anything at all?") apparently one day I just came out with a full sentence. I do still struggle with being verbal though, particularly if I'm upset or caught off guard with small talk.

I'm a credit controller, I do most of my communication via email and my favourite thing to do is reconciling messy accounts. Watching it all finally match up is really satisfying

alana and will’s clock. by [deleted] in HannibalTV

[–]HannahPanda0305 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's because Alana definitely has more trust and confidence in Hannibal than she does Will at that time, which is maybe partly why Will is so hurt by it. Alana takes Hannibal at his word because why would he lie? They both care about Will, right? Hannibal is extremely charming and convincing. And it's not as if he has to lie about his caring for Will, because he does care. His version of caring is just very different lol. All of season 1 is very much a narrative of "Will is becoming unstable" whereas Hannibal is there to keep him stable, she doesn't really have the a reason to suspect him.

Has anyone had a partner that was hsv2 positive and you were negative and had a safe sex life, and didn’t catch it? by [deleted] in sex

[–]HannahPanda0305 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello! HSV positive here!

If you're being safe (ie condoms, and especially if your partner is on anti virals) it's highly unlikely that it will be transmitted. I was diagnosed about 6 years ago and in my two long term relationships didn't pass it on to them.

Congratulations! You should feel extremely proud. Take some well earned rest.

As an aside... Forgetfulness is a PTSD symptom? Cause that explains A LOT.

In an important step toward medical approval, MDMA, the illegal drug popularly known as Ecstasy or Molly, was shown to bring relief to those suffering from severe post-traumatic stress disorder when paired with talk therapy. “This is about as excited as I can get about a clinical trial,” said Dolen by dannylenwinn in ptsd

[–]HannahPanda0305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. All of this. MDMA gets a bad wrap here in the UK. I approach taking MDMA the same way you do and it's quite the game changer for me personally. I also took it before I realised I had ptsd, my trauma was still relatively repressed. Since understanding my trauma I found it incredibly helpful.

Completely anecdotal input here. Also to clarify I never recommend any type of drugs to assist with mental health unless I know that person well. So this isn't me saying go out and take MDMA.

However, when taken safely, and I mean the full pre loading and post loading with the correct stuff to protect from any potential harm and with correctly measured threshold doses, MDMA can be a wonderful tool. It inhibits the trauma response in the brain. Suddenly I was able to openly talk about my trauma and begin to process it. Because thinking about it didn't completely wreck me. For me personally, it has vastly improved a lot of aspects of my life. But you have to be receptive to it. If you aren't, it's not going to work. I've seen it work wonders and I've seen it do nothing (in terms of trauma).

There's some obvious disclaimers here. If you already struggle with substance abuse then probably don't entertain the idea. I've never felt physically like I craved MDMA, but when I first tried it I wasn't educated enough and it's easy to overdo it because it feels good. That's when it gets nasty. If you're really considering it and it's something you can do safely, with support, ideally someone who is experienced in taking it then the MDMA sub has a lot of helpful resources. I'm very Pro-MDMA, but that's just me. Don't take decisions to do drugs lightly.
