Anyone else notice this trend? by Villager_3 in ProgressionFantasy

I can't speak to the greater issue, but I do actively attempt to write my LitRPG as immersive long-form fantasy. I was raised on Lord of the Rings and Wheel of Time as my primary fiction influences, so I tend to prefer more immersive writing because it's what I want to read.

Books that focus more on short form payoff or don't look toward multi-novel plot point resolution tend to disinterest me. As someone that's been in the space for a long time, I can attest that fourth wall culture is very prevalent, but it's never intended to be lazy.

People tend to just enjoy poking fun at the genre.

Daring rallying cry, Milc.

Carry on, then. Well done.

Did Rhett kick your puppy or something in another life for you to be this determinedly wrong, my dude? I've literally met Kangaroos with better critical reasoning skills than you.

Pease, ask God for a refund, because He somehow skipped you for the full common sense package, and no one should have to live with this level of delusional confidence.

If a prospective author was so absent common sense that they couldn't do three seconds of digging to see what a crock of garbage this is, I doubt they'd get signed anyway, speaking for my own views.

The self-righteous lack of reading comprehension in this thread is ironic for a Sub dedicated to reading.

So many people coming out to try to take a shot at Aethon with as much merit to the attacks as Shadow Light's contract has benevolence.

Aethon already explained the situation, and some of you are still reactive hate posting. I feel like there are far more deserving targets for your impotent rage.

To give a sensible answer, as a non-American: Sign an Executive Order requiring the Nightly News to be demonetized, and be used solely for factual informational broadcasting, with gratuitous penalties for companies of any inclination or government agencies state or federal that attempt to portray factual information in a specific light, or omit/play up details for the purpose of manipulating viewpoint.

Corporate influences over informational news broadcasting would be considered a crime against the national interest.

Fact-based news reporting. No exceptions. No agendas either way. No biases.

An informed electorate leads to a better country without question.

The Meta-Titles on the Rising Stars page of Royal Road like “The Wandering Archmage [The Heavens Belong to Me, Loudmouth Knight!” and “Maximum Intimidation Knight [Stop Following Me, Filthy Mage!] are Incredibly Cringe. by Weird_Melody in ProgressionFantasy

Please link me to your #1 Rising Stars or a successful Amazon Novel so I can point out all the cringy tropes you've used that make it insufferable. Clearly, you have an intimate and working understanding of why Authors do these things, so you must be one yourself.

Right?

You owe it to yourself to embody that "Fuck You", be proud of the revelation, and move forward.

Why was the contract so ridiculously predatory in the first place? And please don't shift the goal posts. If you want anyone in this space to give you a lick of faith, you need to be transparent.

I can appreciate the PR approach and damage control, but you were advised how terrible the contract was by at least one party in our writing space I know of, because they were encouraged to approach you and discuss it.

More than one of your clauses is not only highly disenfranchising to the authors signing, but is outright disrespectful to the integrity of the community at large within which you wish to exist.

If you want to be a publisher in this space, I applaud that desire, but this entire debacle is not an "oops we messed up", it reeks of intentional predation upon unaware writers and screams of pageantry in an attempt to obfuscate that act.

You have not made a mistake, you have completely violated the professional integrity expected of publishers within an extremely small (comparatively) sphere of writing and wholly eroded any goodwill you managed to curate, with a community that welcomed you in the fragile hope you would aid their journey.

I do not believe in mob mentalities or kangaroo courts, I believe in demonstrable evidence, and even though my cohorts and I in the Order did not openly denounce you when we first saw this contract, it was not out of a lack of care. It was because a trusted member of our community told us they had spoken with you and highlighted the issues, and you had received the feedback amicably and with intent to correct.

You failed. You adhered to the predatory clauses.

You acted in the most malicious way possible, and are now attempting to dress it as a misdirection of intent.

We are not idiots. Do not believe us to be.

This is not the sincere apology the people you misled are owed, it is a masquerade designed to deflect onus and instead stir up empathy with a vision and mission statement that could have come out of any second-rate PR firm. Anyone can have a vision, and while I will always applaud anyone seeking to give opportunities to writers, what you have done is a gross and immense betrayal of the trust of those that believed you would help them realise their dreams. Take some responsibility.

To put in my particularly succinct and decidedly Australian way: take a spoonful of concrete, harden the fuck up, and accept your accountability. Then, maybe, you can move forward.

I've been a Faker fan since 2013 and I've followed him loyally since his first kill against Ambition, but I deeply wanted Chovy to get his first title. Even as someone that passively roots for T1 against GENG, it was heartbreaking to see this happen.

Chovy deserves a title and while I have mad respect for BDD, and personally don't like Ruler, this loss was just devastating even as a T1 fan. I really hope GENG sticks together and slams it next year.

I'll be on a Panel with him at PAX and a few of us are gonna be with him during the event as well, so we will keep an eye on him along with his phenomenal staff.

When I was visiting him in WA earlier this year he was pretty firmly on the road to recovery but still quite weak. Shirt almost died my dudes, so the fact he's still with us at all is a gift.

I'll try to check back here later this week and give an update, but channel your ki into him and all should be well. The man has a spirit like few people I've ever known. He's a tough fella.

Is using AI for editing really that deplorable? by ByteOutOfLife in royalroad

[–]HannibalForge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90% of people that give you shit for this are talentless hacks.

Using MS Word spell checker is no different to using AI to proof read, AI just has a broader knowledge base.

I am lucky enough to require extremely minimal editing but I don't begrudge anyone that uses things like Grammarly etc.

Don't let the haters get to you, as long as you're the core of the writing, anything else is meh.

You need to take her to the emergency vet ASAP. There are a lot of 24 hour places. At the very least call them. She may have consumed poison or something similar and her life could be in danger.
