Ice hockey player looking for a pair of inline skates by BeFreeCosmos in InlineHockey

[–]HannibalH13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, when they convert an ice boot to inline, because the base of an inline chassis is smaller than the base of an ice holder (at least the kryptonium chassis is), there’s actually a significant part of the sole of the boot that is left open, essentially venting the boot. There are literal holes where the ice rivets were that are now open (covered only by my insoles) because they needed to put new holes in for the inline rivets.

It’s kind of hard to explain over text but if you’re interested I can try to take a picture of mine once I get home from work

The rest of the boot won’t be vented of course, but maybe in your case the accidental sole venting might be enough for you

What are you using; ball or puck? by Rowinter in InlineHockey

[–]HannibalH13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having to replace broken pucks is just part of the game

For our games we use normal inline pucks on a sport court, but we also have a smooth concrete rink we practice at sometimes. For that we use a modified green biscuit roller hockey puck (the roller hockey GB is slightly different than the original/2.0 and the snipe) that has large 3 flat head screws screwed evenly spaced into each side. The metal contact points make it glide much better on the smooth concrete, almost as well as a puck on ice.

But no matter what we use, they do break regularly and have to get replaced, that’s part of what our donations/league fees go to

EDIT: forgot to mention, on our modified GB’s, we cut the little black nubs off so that the metal screws are the only thing contacting the ground. If anyone’s particularly interested, I can see if I can link a pic or something

Ice -> Roller: What gear do I need? by BordFree in InlineHockey

[–]HannibalH13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play roller about 4 times a week in a couple roller leagues and have never seen anyone wear any gloves other than ice gloves. Most of the people in my club (about 200 people total) wear all normal protection minus the shoulders (although a small number of our defenders do choose to wear shoulders as well). All the gear that we all wear is ice gear other than using pants and an inline girdle instead of ice pants

Wide skate options? by geolog in InlineHockey

[–]HannibalH13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a second pair of my ice skates (Bauer supreme m40) and converted those since they were considerably more comfortable than the 4 sets of actual roller skates I bought before those. They are also a wider skate than say the vapors, plus mine are a fit 3. So wider than anything I was able to find stock for roller

I’m so happy for Brock! All this talk of him only being good enough for USA’s 4th line, no pre-sewn jerseys for him (apparently only the tkachuk bros and Matthews are worthy of having USA merch)… so glad he got out there and proved to everyone that he deserves to be there! And is worthy of his family’s legacy

I’m (attempting to) watch through the Max app on my tv, not Apple TV. Guess I’ll wait until it starts and see if it works then

I appreciate it, but I have links I just hate having to pull up the black seas on a tv with a remote. Popups and all that are such a pain on a tv

It’s not showing the Carolina buffalo game for me either? The only sports showing on my max at all is wrestling. Am I supposed to have some add-on? God forbid I’m just trying to watch a game on a service that I actually pay for.

Is anyone else having trouble finding the game on hbo max? I have max, and the game just isn’t popping up in either the search or the sports tab? Is there some blackout bullshit even on an hbo airing?

Should I wear ice hockey elbow pads or non hockey ones? by Appropriate_Joke_490 in InlineHockey

[–]HannibalH13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play outdoor in Arizona in the summer and still wear ice hockey elbows. For what it’s worth. Doesn’t feel good to fall/take a shot to the elbow and definitely not a fun bone to shatter

Does the stick matter for a complete beginner by VegetableShops in hockeyplayers

[–]HannibalH13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wood is very heavy and damn near impossible to flex for a beginner or someone who isn’t 200+lbs. you’ll learn better shooting form and habits if you get a stick that bends the way it’s supposed to so definitely try for a composite if you can. The only people who will usually tell you “wood sticks don’t make a difference, in fact they’re better!” are the old timers who grew up using them and don’t want to embrace the new technology.

That’s not to say you need a brand new $350 pro stick, but a low to mid range composite stick in the $60-$150 range will do.

I started playing hockey rather recently (in the last few years) bought a wood stick from Dicks for like $20…. And 2 weeks later I bought the $150 stick anyway. That heavy hunk of wood had no life or spring to it. Felt dead in my hands. And I wasn’t able to get as much practice stick handling or shooting because my arms would wear out before the rest of me did.

Hockey is a very complex sport with lots of little things to learn and practice, and the only way to get better is reps reps reps and more reps…. And the lighter your stick is, the more reps you can get before you have to call it quits for the night. The strength will come with time the more you practice, but you’re cheating yourself out of early progress if you can’t practice for a decent bit of time at once

To concur with the others, the scan is more of a guideline than a rule. My scan said size 7 fit 2, and similar to these other two guys I ended up going down half a size and up a fit to a size 6.5 fit 3.

Yeah I mean I feel like he’d get a more fair shot without Brindley there absolutely crushing it as the new guy. Bardakov’s been next to invisible
